We had spent the last 8 winters in Puerto vallarta and then, well, covid, so we decided in fall 2020 to skip. We are of a certain age and there wasn't a vaccine yet. So I saw your first video about then and have followed you ever since, i was the person who asked the "are you the David in the Scary Pockets video?" question. Anyhow, thankyou for entertaining me through that cold, rainy winter (west coast resident)and beyond. Your travel videos and day in the life ones are equally engaging. Me encanta mexico!
Ok, this video for some reason actually made me cry. I am 60 and just retired after 40 years of full-time nursing and my husband is 62 and working for another couple of years. We have been to Mexico 19 times staying at resorts and renting Airbnbs. He is all in invested into retiring in Mexico and I am hesitant, but excited by the idea. Most of the time, I don't even know why, I worry.I've never been a risk taker and watching this video, really inspired me. I love your channel and encourage you to please continue. Fantastic channel!! Love you both!
Ah thanks so much and sorry for making you cry (but also not sorry 🤣)! Sounds like you guys are on the right path and it's tooootally normal to worry (it's a big move!) but also sounds like you'd be excited to make a change! Good luck and let us know how it all turns out!!
Just come! Nothing to fear, you’ll be much more happy here that you are in your country.... I’m mexican and went to life to Canada, could not adapt!, missed my country so much, I think is the FOOD!!! Hahaha, yeap that and weather and people
Well said, gentlemen, I agree with all you said. As a retired Californian who has lived in Guatemala and Mexico for the last 7 years, I confirm that the local populations are so genuinely welcoming, nonjudgmental, and generous and I'm forever grateful for their acceptance and for how lovely life down here is.
Happy anniversary! I'm a 30 something openly gay man and your videos have helped comfort me in my decision to relocate to Mexico from the US. I've been dealing with a lot of those same questions- "You're doing what? For how long?" My adventure begins in January and I'm so excited to take my own path and experience something different. Cheers to you guys! Thanks for all of your helpful information.
I was 20, when I took an escorted Greyhound -Estrella de ORO buses from Chicago to all of Mexico toward Acapulco as our final destination. I fell in love with Acapulco, and have visited and lived part time ever since 1962--2013. At the age of 79, I had my entire apartment cleared by 1-800 GOT JUNK , and it was not junk. With a big suitcase, small suitcase, I moved to Queretaro on 11/4/2021 for good.
This is by far your most moving and heart felt video. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on how México and Merida really are. We locals are so blessed to have people like you moving to Merida and making our city more vibrant, diverse and culturally rich. I hope you will be around for at least another year.
Adolfo, I watched an interview you did on this channel about how you turned your passion into a business. So inspirational. As a 99% vegan (haven't been able to give up NYC pizza yet, LOL), it's wonderful to see that your vegan business is thriving. Also, I was heartened to hear in this video how you are reusing plastic. Plastic waste is such a huge problem worldwide as I'm sure you know. BTW, after seeing the interview I messaged you on your IG wanting to know which was the book you said you read about the vegan ironman that inspired you. Was it 'Finding Ultra' by Rich Roll?
I spent a week in Mérida this past September and absolutely loved the city. Not overrun with tourists, plenty of things to do all around, a beautiful centro historico, and at the same time very modern with all the amenities one needs. My main surprise was that it is much bigger than I expected (1.2 M), something I could fully appreciate when I went to Progreso, Celestún, and other places. I've been scouting the country since 2016 to see where I could possibly re-locate (retiring from my government job in two years). Mérida's only downside to me is the heat and humidity: I struggle with Toronto's (and Montreal's) summers at the best of times, and Mérida is a whole different ball game. I am so glad you found your place in the sun (no pun intended) and are happy with your life decisions and directions. It is always a pleasure and an inspiration to watch your vlogs.
Hey There, I’m moving to Queretaro in May 2022 and taking a pre-trip in a couple weeks for 4 days. I am so excited about experiencing a new life and culture. I’m know I have a Spanish name and I am part Spanish, however, I am a Native Hawaiian, born and raised in Hawaii so don’t let my name fool you…LOL. Love your positive and open outlook in life and I’m so glad the two of you have found your “happy space” in life. That is soooo important. Be well and stay happy!
You guys are so adorable. Thanks for the heads up about the plant based friendly options. That's been something I've been thinking about. Nice to know there are options.
Congrats, guys!!! :) Can not agree more on how Mexico is such a beautiful country with the kindest, most helpful and super friendly people. We have spent 6 months (from April till October 2021) with my hubby in Mexico, visited almost the same cities where you have been and nodded each time while watching your videos that "yep, yep, and yep - same experience over here". Enjoy it and spread the word that it's 100% worth living abroad (lived in 6 diff countries, visited over 35) and how Mexico is a perfect place to start this journey! we have sold everything 2 yrs ago too, left our "perfect" job, ended up with two 55l backpacks and here we are in Costa Rica now. Wishing you all the best for the upcoming year and keep up the good work and positivity!
Hey y’all! Just found your channel not too long ago. I’ll be relocating to Mexico from Texas and your videos have been so helpful! Keep it going! Thank you!
We’ve been on vaca in Merida for the last week or so and we love it. Thanks for the great videos on living in Mexico. I absolutely agree with your views on it!
Congrats you guys. I'm really over joyed for you and your finding a way that truly works for you. Being true to one's self is sooo liberating. Best wishes for another year.
I first saw the two of you when I was researching Puerto Vallarta... And I saw one of your videos... Then somehow I came across Merida... Started new research and bam there you were again... This year I am going to yalepa in Puerto Vallarta for a month... But I'm already starting my 2024 plans for Merida. Thank you for all of your wonderful information and for being so ding dang cute...Jewelz...
I just found your channel and thanks so much for your advice! I'm moving to Puerto Vallarta next week and I can't wait! Being a black queer woman, finding a place where I can be my authentic self in a safe environment is crucial for me, luckily I have built a community of friends there and I feel so free.
So great to hear you guys summarize your first year in Mexico and Merida in particular. We are 6 days away from making the same move... following in your footsteps in many ways ( although I have a feeling we may be bringing along just a few more of our worldly possessions than you brought ). It took far longer to make this move than originally planned, but now we can look forward to experiencing many of the things that Mexico holds for us. Thanks for being so open and candid with all your followers - sharing both the good and the bad of your new lives. Hey... we might even try the vegan approach .. why not??
Oh and just a comment about Merida, after living here over 5 years, you all arrived during Covid, Yucatan is among the most strictest Covid restriction states. Before Covid, you could find a party or rage as much as you wanted to every night of the week here!!! There were tons more events and concerts! Merida will re-emerge a cultural capital with everything to offer.
I love you guys! Thank you so much for your generosity of heart and sharing your experiences. So positively inspiring! Thank you! Looking forward to making my move to Mérida! I fell in love immediately when I had my 3-week bday vacation in Mérida this past September! It would be great to hang out with y’all.
I've been watching since the first video! You provided tons of inspiration as I sat in Texas and planned my exit to Merida. Happy Anniversary Cafe con Leche!
Great video and empowering message 🙏🏽 my wife and I also hit our 1 year anniversary since we moved to Mexico and I 100% feel you on what you shared! Best decision ever!
O-M-G! You guys!! I have been following since you moved out of your apartment, and guess what!!?? I'm here now. Well, not Merida. But b/c of you guys (and the Yarbros, and a few others) I moved to Mexico. We chose Playa (for 1 year--2 min fr the beach) as our home base. Then, who knows. It's been great watching your journey. Now we'll start ours (only 3 weeks in)! Thank you, thank you for the inspiration!
I am from Mérida, but I ‘ve been in Singapore for 24yrs. It’s nice to hear that you enjoy my great city and the Yucatecos have been nice and friendly to you. Glad to hear that you are showing a totally different side from México. However I had a bad experience with my American neighbour who wanted to control the street and polluted my pozo and chopped an aguacate tree that we used to share. Fortunately he moved!!!
Hello gentlemen I Became a Mexican Citizen on Tuesday October 19 2021 and now driving back to Los Angeles from San Pedro Tlaquepaque jalisco getting a little closer to relocating to Beautiful Puerto Vallarta
I’m a big fan of your wonderful personality! I’ve watched every single one of your videos and I just can not believe you’ve been in this country for a whole year! Keep it up :)
Thank you so much guys for your insight on living in Merida. I have been considering it so much recently and binge-watching your videos have been so great and helpful. haha. Good vibes your way always!!
@Cafe con Leche Travels, we have binge watched all your videos and are always excited for new ones. Congrats on 1 year!!🎉🥳. Since your first videos both of your skin looks fantastic, your eyes are brighter, and your smiles are even bigger❤️. Your cinematography and interview parts of your videos are fabulous and have gotten even better every month you’ve been there. We only have 3 - 4 years left working and we will be fully retired and already have our home base picked out in Mexico!!! We are from the US and are working in Shanghai, China. Thank you so much for your hard work on your videos and please never change! It makes our day when we hear the famous “Let’s Go” on your videos ❤️❤️❤️. Stay safe, happy, in love, and devilishly handsome 😻🔥🥳🎉🙌💯🎂
Welcome home from your last adventure on the Pacific coast. Kaytee here, your one year main viewer! We finally will be getting into our house!!!! Will let you know when we get things arranged. Hopefully you will still be here!
Felicidades on one year anniversary, while I might be an old Mexico hand you have both added so many new dimensions to Mexico for me and I am sure others. Your videos inform, delight and put a smikle my face every time I watch them. And here's to another year ahead and more cafe con leche..
Wow. your first year went by so fast. My husband and I have to many cities in Mexico, we love it and love our videos. Keep shinning your Magnificent Light. Gary G., Las Vegas
Hey guys and congratulations 🎉. I know how you must feel. After leaving the USA 15.5 years ago from Atlanta,Ga you are sooo correct in that there is sooooo much 🌎 to see and why not even live and truly experience what life is like in another country. Ummmm, David, I popped over to your channel to hear the sung. WOW!!!! Safe travels all the best.
Greetings! First time viewer here! Enjoying your videos! I was born and raised in Oklahoma. My two teenagers have their dad and family in Guanajuato. I've been spending this year and going to spend next year taking care of business with my house etc to be able to go to Mexico for a few months next year so they can get to know their dad, grandparents and younger siblings in Guanajuato. Their dad was deported in 2009 so they were just babies the last time they seen their dad but they have one uncle that lives here so they've met their grandparents and other family members when they come to visit. I'm super nervous to go to Mexico so I spend my free time watching videos of Americans in Mexico to get rid of this apprehension 😂
As always, I enjoyed your video. I've been watching since you started this channel and I can't believe it's already been a year! I loved your "day in a life" approach today and I am glad that you two have decided to stay on indefinitely. And David, I agree, fig newtons are the best thing ever. Looking forward to the next year of adventures with you guys. Best wishes.
Great video as always guys, love it! I plan to winter in Merida in the next 5 years, love the Mexican culture as well, been travelling to Mexico for 25 years now and really love the Yucatan (especially the beaches). My hubby and I and 3 kids and a dog moved from Toronto to Vancouver 7 years ago and never looked back...can't wait to be a snow bird in Mexico soon!! Love your channel....
Thanks for the interesting video. We are planning a trip to Merida in November/ December. We live in San Diego and travel to Mexico 1 week a month to various spots (we are in Puerto Angel now). Haven't been to Merida yet. All in all it's a great life.
Wow! One year! Amazing! I totally get you guys on people asking when we’re going back. I just say, I don’t know……maybe in a year or two or more. I love my life in Mexico. We’re in Querétaro, come visit. You’ll love the cool weather, the centro histórico and the wine! And congratulations again on your one year anniversary in Mexico!🎉🇲🇽
Mi primer video con uds! Me encantó. Viví en México hace muchos años. Hay veces que quiero regresar. Ese día aún no ha llegado, sin embargo, cuando llegue a la mejor podemos conectarnos. Será rete padre 😉
Congratulations on your anniversary. I’m glad that you are enjoying Merida Yucatán AKA “La ciudad blanca” thanks for your positive comments about my home country. Best wishes.
❤🙏🏽We love you wonderful folks!! Your views on Mexico are very important to us as🎉well plan to visit and possibly live there permanently! God willing 🙏🏽❤️
I just discovered you guys and loved it. Thank for sharing your adventures and my Mexico. I am from Monterrey were you will find a very different Mexico. Saludos y bendita suerte!
Hey!! Great Vid! I learned so much about your city! Obviously one of the best kept secret in the world!! hehehe. I live in Baja North for near 20 years (from Orange County, CA) it is so peaceful and no one has guns to banish or threaten. The police help me many times and I see them help others. Glad you enjoy so much!!!
Wow! A year. I’ve been following your channel from the beginning and your videos are so helpful & informative. My move there has been delayed by covid circumstances, and situations with a buyout from my building in LA, but I’m still definitely coming. I just got a 3pc set of luggage for my bday, and I keep staring at it wondering how I’m going to narrow down my life to just those 3 suitcases & a cat carrier, but I’ll go back to your video on that, and the wandering soup video & a few others to make sure I bring some essentials. Congratulations on your first year! I’m so excited to experience all the wonderfulness you’ve experienced
Thanks Rochelle! And congrats on getting the suitcases - that's the first step! But you're right - getting everything to *fit* in them is a bit more challenging 🤣 You can do it though, and it'll feel so good!
Beautiful video guys....each one gets better and better. So happy for you! I'm gay and a Mexican citizen and have never had an issue being gay anywhere in Mexico either.
I love this channel. You guys are an awesome couple & I'm thankful4 u sharing your journey with us. Yes you can create your own life. THRIVE!!! AND don't forget to remember to never give audience to the haters. (whatever they type in the comments etc) Cuz there are enough of us with a positive attitude like you guys. I remember the tears in Travis' eyes and David's throat a year ago when you talked about why you left L.A. so THRIVE my friends.
I love your wonderful channel! I’ve been following you for the year you’ve been in Merida. You guys are fun, entertaining and very informative. Would love to visit Merida in the future. Love and light. From grandma C in California
Congratulations i remember your video on the day you left cali for paradise thank you for another great day. you have encouraged me to visit merida mexico and some of your other great spots
I'VE BEEN TO MEXICO MANY TIMES BUT NEVER BEEN TO MERIDA, I'M COMING DOWN SOON FOR SOME DENTAL WORK. HOPE TO RUN INTO YOU TWO. I'LL BE STAYING IN LA CENTRAL AREA, MAYBE AT THE GRAN HOTEL.
Congratulations on your one year anniversary, by husband and I have been following you one year ago. We will be moving to Mexico City later next year, we love you guys stay safe and well ❤️🩹
Now if only you would learn how to keep frogs out of the toilet 😉 Seriously tho, your channel has been a pleasure to watch: interesting, informative, a but goofy (which is a good thing), and nicely presented. 🎉 Happy first anniversary 🎉
My partner, and I have been with you guys from the start. Hard to believe it has been a year. You both have taught, and showed us so much. We love it👏. We 're also an interracial gay couple. I'm Black & Puertorican 62 retired,, and totally Bilingual. Spanish is my first language, & my partner is Caucasian 47, works remotely. We are looking at Merida, and some border towns. So excited, and happy for you both. Looking forward to your next journey. Happy & Safe travels, Johnny & Johann/ Los Angeles 🙆♂️👏
Can you guys believe it's been a year? Who's been here since the beginning? 🙋♂️🙋♀️🙋

There are great places to live in Mexico, for gay people Puerto Vallarta is like paradise, but of course there are lot of other places, good luck.

Happy 1year.
Thanks Doralyn! ❤️
I Absolutely agree that Mexico and specifically Merida is close enough that if you needed to get home you could go without too much hassle.
I so love you two!!! Please keep the great videos coming. 🤩 I've learned so much about Merida and I looking forward to trying Fitorade!
Haha thanks so much for watching and supporting!
It really is a perfect place!! I've been here since Oct 9th. I fall more in love every day! :)
THAT'S LIKE A NEW HOME, TO LIVE, FUN, SHOP. RETIRE PLACE

Viva la Mexico🌟🌟
Love watching your journey this year. Thank you for archiving it. Be blessed! Keep shining your light!
Thanks Jasmine!
Hey!!
