  • In this video I discuss two instances where sound did not play on my BOSE 700 soundbar system and the steps I took to fix. This first problem is perhaps specific to LG the second instance is perhaps more general.
Let me know if this video is useful with a comment or like or whatever

I've been dealing with this issue of it switching back to the tv speakers with my Bose 700 set up and Samsung curve everytime the power goes out for the past two years and it is a nightmare to get it back working. Ive sat on the phone with Bose & Samsung for hours with no valid fix as everytime it would randomly start working again after unplugging the HDMI wire from Bose to tv the fifteenth time but after unplugging all other HDMI connections and turning the tv off and back on again and only reconnecting the Bose until getting sound it now always works! I have a Sony TV & a Bose soundbar. I suddenly lost the sound when the remote dropped to the floor! And I could not figure out how to get the sound back!!! I I went online and followed these instructions in this order. I also noticed that when I turned up the volume on the Sony Remote; it had a little speaker icon next to it! I tried all the detaching/re-attaching the HDMI ports. I saw these instructions online and decided to try it ....
    On my Sony TV Remote
    1.Home Button
    2.Settings
    3.Sound
    4.Audio Output
    5.Digital Audio Output (PCM)
And yay, I got the sound back coming from from the Bose Soundbar! It worked!
But last night, I decided to watch a DVD - and I couldn't get the 'sound' to come from the Bose - instead it came from the TV, which made the sound tinny. I didn't set my system up so now that I have the sound back - how do I get my DVDs to play sound from the Bose??? It always worked before!!
I'd appreciate any help you can give. Thank you.

I was facing this LG-Bose sound bar issue for about a year. Previously it work sometime and sometime don’t. Usually power down both tv and sound bar for a while and turn them back on and it will work. Until recently the sound bar just don’t sound no matter what I do. I also follow the Bose official video on HDMI ARC connection but still no luck. I tried your steps but unfortunately it doesn’t work the first time. Then I perform factory reset on my Bose sound bar. It still don’t work. And I decide to unplug all HDMI from my TV and left only the HDMI 2 ARC, now it work, when I plug in my HDMI 1, no issue, but as soon as I plug in HDMI 3, the sound switch to TV speakers. When I unplug HDMI 3, the sound switch back to Bose sound bar. Now, I leave the HDMI 3 unplug. I think this is LG TV issue after all. And thank you, your video helped me!

Ok. I got my Bose 700 back from the repair shop yesterday. It was set to factory defaults. Which means my updates are most likely not installed. I went on and added my 700 and my surround mini speakers to the Bose app. I reconnected the the 700 to my LG the way you suggested. After a few hours, the TV switched to the internal speaker. So I did the whole reconnection thing again. Again, after about an hour, the TV switched to the internal speaker. I don't know how much this has to do with it, but I noticed that the Bose app would automatically turn off the SOURCE TV selection. I would have to reactivate it. In the meantime, to get the sound to go through the 700, I would have to set the HDMI ARC selection again and then turn the TV off and back on again. I'm all ears for other recommendations.

I had to hard restart the t.v to get the soundbar to work. I have a LG oled CX, It will not work if you only turn the t.v off. You have to hard restart the t.v. You do this by turing off or unplugging the main power source(t.v. power cable) for 10 seconds. When you turn on or plug in the main power source after 10 seconds the screen will say "welcome" in three different languages. After this the t.v will connect to the cable source or whatever source you are watch(Netflix, TH-cam, etc...) and the soundbar will be working. Be sure to turn have the hdmi arc "on" in the sound setting before trying this. Hope this helps!

Sony 950G and Bose 700 sound bar. I have the HDMI plugged into ARC on both devices and the optical cable connected as well. It has been working for about a year then suddenly stopped about a month ago. I have tried both of these fixes. A complete reset of the Bose Soundbar fixes it for about a minute, then the TV displays “Audio device not available, switching to TV Speakers”. If I turn BRAVIA off on the TV, the sound bar works, but I get double sound from the TV and the sound bar. Turning BRAVIA back on causes the “Audio Device not available” error to occur within seconds and it switches back to the TV sound.

Upgraded to a bose 900 and was fine for about 3 weeks and then boom this stated happening and even when on TV speakers the bar still thinks its outputting audio. Only fix was to power it down and on again but its happening all the time.
Changed to a bose ultra hoping the newer software would be more stable and after 12 hours the same issue.
It must be some issue with cec communication and bose. As my lg soundbar and jbl were fine. I also notice a cec communication error when using atmos content as I get no notification like i did before even though the bose app confirms its outputting atmos.

Ok. I’m getting the same issue with my Bose SB 700 connected to my LG TV. The sound will not stay connected to the ARC. It changes to internal speaker all the darn time. Turning TV on and off would fix the problem most of the time. In December, my SB just quit working. The white light moved from left to right continuously. The manual says that when it does this, it means it’s updating? But NOT for 3 days straight! I sent it in for repairs and got it back 3 weeks later. Same problem! It would switch back to internal speaker. NOW…I wish I had seen your video prior to yesterday. I would have done all the connections as you recommended. Today, I’m boxing it up AGAIN and sending it to be repaired because that same white light is happening. I tried the hard reset, but no luck. I’m ready to just pitch this in the trash. Any suggestions or anyone else with same issue?

This shit really is annoying as hell. However, I just now figured out that my Bose sound bar is not part of/connected to my Bose sound system. My Bose box(which all my devices/HDMI cablesgo through) only controls my sub woofers/surround sound.
I always knew I could just unplug my Bose control box, and just get audio through the TV, but I always thought that the TV itself had speakers somewhere, presumably in the back, as it's a very thin TV. Hell, maybe it does, I dunno, but I just unplugged my Bose box as this is the first time I couldn't fix this problem, and realized the sound was coming through the sound bar. I though that was what the Bose console meant by "accoustimass", so I kept unplugging and trying to reset that.
Fucking hell. I swear there's gotta be an easier way to do 'll this stuff(other than paying someone to come, which arguably is sometimes worth the avoided time frustration, though that's a whole other problem as often the guy will get here, and say, "oh, I don't know how to fix this, you need so and so to come out.")
Then again, I guess it is pretty impressive that someone as non tech-savvy as me can set up all of these TVs, gaming consoles, DVD players, stereos, the modem/router, etc. I guess the sound system is actually the only thing I ever have real trouble with(besides sometimes the cable, but I almost never use that), and it can be set off by something as simple switching an HDMI cable to my DVD player, and then switching it back to whatever slot it was plugged into in the sound bar in the first place.

I have an issue with my Bose Smart 600 where sound works great through my optical port, but once in a while, especially after pausing a show, I will lose sound and I have to use the Bose phone app to power the sound bar back on. It is incredibly fucking aggravating! I have not found a fix for this? I am using a Visio TV with this sound bar. I have tried resetting the sound bar, and it still does this.
Why the fuck does the sound bar just power off like that? It's so stupid!

I don't think Bose works well with Samsung tvs. My soundbar worked for 10 minutes and then just cut out. I could even get the soundbar to turn on. I returned it to Best Buy. I'll just stick with the TV sound. Far less frustrating.

Update: Going to SOUND-eARC Support reconnected my sound bar. Even after turn is TV off including all other devices.
Just purchased an LG G2 77” and connected my Bose 700 to the correct hdmi (ARC) port. The sound bar worked until I turn off the TV. Now the sound bar will not play. Since the TV panel is flushed with the wall and requires delicate handling, it is asinine to pull the TV away from the wall each time the TV drops the sound bar connection. Not too happy with this LG product.

I used to revere Bose. I used to sell their speakers in the 90s and I loved them. I only used bose speakers. Even the fancy surround sound systems. With the two bars that I bought - one 700 and one 300.. all they do is give me grief. Good speakers should be transparent. I will tell you at this point in my life - 30 -40 minutes of troubleshooting sound isn't my idea of life. I will NEVER buy a bose product again. They are crap. I will never let any of my friends buy them. JUNK! if you don't believe me - call their tech support with your problem. LOL - they will eventually decide that you did something wrong. I should have stuck with the LG sound bar for my LG TV. So - BOSE if you are reading - You have a negative NET promoter score from me.

I hate my Bose Soundbar 700. I want to punch it in the face. Too many problems. And no ATMOS. My soundbar freezes for no reason. Completely unresponsive. Can't turn off or on, just red light. I have to unplug to get the stupid white light to come on and have it work again. I hate this thing.

Also, no display is a critical flaw. Nothing on the TV, nothing on the sound bar. I don't know what input it is on, what mode it is in, what volume level it is, if it is even on or off.
