I Have M57N2 in E60, Will do this this summer too. What Mileage your engine have ? (Wanna ask , because of the Chain lenght differences - new vs. old), But i will only do the Guides and the 2 Timing Chains. I plan to leave the Oilpan and Oilpumpchain where it is . (I must look about how much its worn etc...)- Where you buy the Parts of it ? Exists something "Better" especially the chainguides, which are known that they break down (plastic) lol ; Greetings !

Actually the car is done , before around two weeks , so I already knowed the difference btw the new and the old chains when we talked with you on the previous part . But still I highly recommend this servicing because in my opinion , is pure gamble . This E39 is probably not the best case , cuz ones again , it is driven with good quality engine oils and it is serviced at the right mileage and it is driven mainly on long distances . As I told you , you can search the forums and check for this by yourself . Thanks for watching and happy new year to you too ! :)
I had the same e39 530DTa run over 650000km, the turbo broke, nox emission came, sold it to the junkyard, the owner mounted a used turbo and sold iT within 2 weeks.... now Someone is very happy in africa. IT came with full option! Except sunroof! IT was build to last!!
Good instructional video, very educational as a principle. BUT, the BMW M47 M57 engines do NOT need the chains to be replaced; they will outlast the engine, if it gets proper, sufficient and timely oil that is of course! My BMW E39 had 420.000km when I sold it and it was running perfect, no chain noise or anything. I surely still runs somewhere in (North) Africa or alike and it will last for at least 500.000km without any need for new chains!!! This job is really not necessary for this generation of engines and your comparison of the old vs. new chains proves that clearly. The BMW N47 N57 engines however... now that is a different story... For the pump the lock pin will hold , but for the crank pulley it will NOT . If i remember right we manage to hold with something to the flywheels teeths
This is not a problem Sami . This is just servicing the timing chains , they don't last forever , they have wear as everything in the car . It is recommended not mandatory
I'm not removing the high pressure pump at all . I'm separating the gear of the pump from the pump shaft . But yes , you can remove the cover without doing this part .

I need replace hydraulic lifters on my 3d(m57) before I remove gears from camshaft do I need put pin to the tensioner and make chain free ? but I have no idea how to push piston back into tensioner when everything is on so I think I have to do it after I remove gears and push in piston with plastic guide and then use pin.. Am I right ?
@@crank3646 I can't see it in part 1. You removed gears and there is no pin in tensioner. I need for this job remove only valve cover not like you all front side housing so I can't touch and see tensioner and my question is how to compress him for put pin in? do you understand what I mean?
Newer ones like M57TU or M57N2 have that problem. This one (classic m57, first generation) not that much. Mostly it runs over 500k km without noticeable problems. For newer engines 250-300k is critical point.

И второто зъбните колела на разпределителите имат ли белези и фиксатори по тях как се поставят точно или зацепването идва като се позиционират разпределителите и после само се затегнат? Весело посрещане на нова година.
Ориентирай се спрямо позицията на гърбиците на разпределителните валове , къде горе долу ще е дупката на маховика . Иначе имаше една неравност където пак се навираше чопа и лъжеше че е зацепен коляновия вал , така че ако може да се погледне с камера е най-добре . Зависи от мотора , обикновено имат точки отзад на тях . Като цяло зацепването е от валовете само , не от зъбчатките . Мотора няма ваноси така , че както и да ги сложиш , стига да може да хванеш болтовете , ще работи .

@@crank3646 Благодаря ти, свалям капака на клапаните, че гарнитурата зле протекла(на М57-Е39) и мисля да проверя центровката, за всеки случай :) Едната дюза беше мокра, на ИМПА дава корекция +2.80-3.11-Възможно ли е да изпуска :)

If I remember right , automatic has the same locking point on the flywheel as the manual . So everything should be the same , as is shown in the video .
@@crank3646 Hey, nono there was nothing majorly wrong, but for example when opening the timingchainwheel you should hold the camshaft with a spanner and not let the timing tool hold the whole force. Or you should not have opened the housing of the vacuum pump, it will most probably leak a little bit. Otherwise its great that the car is still running :)

Yes this is very common problem . You probably going to need to drill them out
CRANK nobody sell new bridge bolts tho as they come with the cylinder head and way to get around this problem

How did lock it the engine when you tight the crankshaft pulley? Also when you tighten the h.p. Pump sprocket
Can be lock by flywheel pin?
For the pump the lock pin will hold , but for the crank pulley it will NOT . If i remember right we manage to hold with something to the flywheels teeths
Is the process on the M47N2 the same? (BMW E87 120D 163 PS) and can I only change the upper two chains without removing the oil pan?
You have N47 not M47 your chain is on the back engine not in the front is more problematic like M47 timing chain.
I have the e92 330d from late 2007, do they have the same problems with the chains ( its also m57)

The fuel pump doesn't require any timing . Check the error codes
i never touched the lower chains only camshaft chain and the code 4b90

You need to install the pin for the tensioner , before removing the gears for the camshaft . I showed in the video how to do it , it is not so hard .

Thats why I prefer belt driven engines. Cheap and easy to replace. Belt are noisy, expensive and hard to replace.

New oil pan gasket
This engine m57 can have problems with timing chain?

Между 1000-1600 лв в зависимост дали ще сменяме масла и филтри , както и дали веригите ще са оригинални или не .
