    Ed Bastien CEO received 34 million dollars last year as his compensation. Maybe they should have used that to invest in their infrastructure.

      Guarantee the software upgrades/infrastructure issues they have could have a large portion of them solve with just some of that 34 million dollars. But big wigs don’t get it. I see it everywhere. It doesn’t make you money but it sure can lose you money.

      ​@goesinevent I've always been asked to remove any medication when I'm forced to check a bag. I 100% believe this situation is awful, but everyone should keep any important medication on their person during travel.

    I flew on United 2 days ago and it was super smooth, no issues, no delays. What's going on with Delta? Crowdstrike is old news.

      Not really old news, you must be lucky enough to be able to afford Mac. Everyone else, us normal people, with windows, have been screwed over massively. I have a brand new laptop that got during a sale this month, can’t even set it up because of this whole fiasco. Black screen of death constantly while trying to set it up. Can’t afford Mac, stuck with windows, the cheaper brand for computers. And my older windows computer is actively trying to take itself down now, meaning I’m at risk of losing everything on my computer.

      Also, I can’t get help from Microsoft or the company I ordered the computer from. They both changed their systems to deal with non stop customer calls over home computers being lost by customers. And a lot of people have warranties, meaning they’d be owed free computer replacements. Because this could easily be considered an act of god. The Saturday before this hit the news, I got their normal answering system, that it was out of normal business hours. Now, it’s a 24/7 AI not that says with everything you do, I can’t find this based on your number. Meaning we’re all screwed. So I’m happy that you have not gotten screwed over massively, but have some compassion for those of us who are still dealing with this disaster.

      ​​@@CaitS34Don't lie! My 64 GB RAM ASUS Laptop is working PERFECTLY with Windows 11 and SSD. But my MacBook is DEAD since last Friday. You are maybe a paid agent of Apple to spoil the reputation of Windows and Microsoft . ❤❤

    Poor communication! I did not know my flight was cancelled until two hours before going to the airport. I had already paid online for my bags earlier that day. We decided to go to the airport to speak to a Delta rep. only to find utter chaos people whose flights were cancelled were standing on lines with people whose flights were still scheduled to go. It was absolutely a mess! I finally booked with another airline because Delta is only digging a deeper ditch with so many cancellations!!!

    This shows how dependent the world is on computer software; a simple software flight crew scheduling software upgrade caused a massive system shutdown when they couldn’t assign pilots and flight attendants to already schedule flights. Other airlines had backup plans to reduce the flight crew scheduling software outage, but Delta had no contingency plans and just cancelled all their flights. Delta saved on wages and relied heavily on the software program with no backups.

      It was not that, it was a new windows os computer update. It’s crashing all windows computers, from professional to home. And everyone is screwed. Most businesses can’t afford all Mac devices, windows is the cheapest. It was a windows os general updated that is crashing computers world wide. And computers that didn’t update it yet, are actively trying to take themselves down!! I have a brand new windows computer that I can not even set up, because of this disaster. And the worst part is Microsoft has zero plans to fix it themselves.

      @@CaitS34 It was CrowdStrike, a third-party vendor’s software upgrade. They failed to properly test the new software upgrades on the Microsoft platform.

    I missed my flight cuz they kept pushing my first one back so I had to rent a car and drive home. I knew a couple that had to do the same thing with young kids and they were 16 hours from home.

    I somehow lucked out, feeling very grateful. We flew out to Cali the day before the shutdown, and came back to Mass yesterday. Our flight from Sacramento to Salt Lake was only delayed 30 mins.

    It's rich to see people shocked at the kind of treatment the airlines offer (which is none) when large portions of their operations are hindered.
    Do they not see the yearly news about weather delays or even movies about airlines leaving customers abandoned when stuff hits the fan; it's basically their policy at this point.

    Folks, Delta is part of the One World Alliance. You can request to be rebooked with ANY of its alliance members FREE which includes American, United, Alaska, etc. Don’t have time for the trips they can offer you? Fly Spirit which was barely impacted by the shut down (they internally run “old school”), is safer than ANY legacy carrier, with incredibly low fares as long as you pay attention to the baggage guidelines.
    Used to be a gate agent, now I’m a flight attendant.

    In Delta’s Detroit check-in area last Sunday there was literally one staff working … and 11 empty work stations. I don’t know how that is ok, for the staff or customers.

    Honestly at this point they should just have the airport to run on Linux strip out all that Windows garbage and just make the program strictly for airports an airplane flights and that's it and yes put some security on there as well at least and that is it.

    I can see the challenge in having a lot of people employed basically on standby waiting for these problems to come up, the problem is that would be very expensive and hard to justify 90% of the time, but I agree the government needs to require airlines to work better with each other during these crises and require them to send passengers on other airlines, as well as have dedicated additional staff beyond normal operations for irregular ops.

    Its Tuesday 8/6. I have stuck in Florida since 7/31. My pregnant wife is with me. We are just hopelessly going around different hotels hoping delta will send us back home in nyc. Not heard from delta for so many cancellations. Not a single time. Any reporter willing to interview, we are willing to share our horror story with delta.

      Listen to the video again, for the first few days other airlines experienced the same delays and cancelations. However, all airlines except Delta are now operating normally. Only Delta has yet to recover.

    Unfortunately, there are MANY companies and organizations, inclusive of department stores, libraries, who do not properly invest in their IT infrastructure, as we have read in many reports and have seen on news broadcasts. As well, they don't hire the best IT professionals. Most especially, consumers in all forms are affected and inconvenienced by those with unsecured systems, unsecured data, low end software, no protection of servers, no proper software updates for security, etc. This whole situation is very disconcerting and shocking, to say the least.

    booooook at a different airline... It happened to me.... 1. being pushed back on Air Canada in Vancouver only to be pushed back. before i even got off the airline ... had a flight out just two hours on United...when they announced the flight is canceled I pushed the pay button..walked a few gates down and left. Same thing happen in Italy on Delta.. but I booked to Heathrow and then flew out on a different delta flight to JFK then took Hawaii air back home to Hawaii.
