Was looking for a comment like this! Seeing this speedrun for the first time now. Never understood this game when I was a kid.
I snapped my disk in half.
When i played without a guide, my only stategy was to get numemon digivolve to monzaemon and bull rush to mt infinity. My most successful attempt had me skipping every fight on the way up and my digimon dying of old age mere centimetres from the final boss room
@SneakyOS the game tells you never training so much. My only issue was to get an ultimate Digimon because the game never tells you how to do It. The game only gives you a tip saying that It depends on certain status that It never revealed to you. This game was a Lot of Fun for me as kid. Today I do not think I have the same patient to play it
Digimon can always use the love. Great to see this run.

I never imagined this game would show up at an event, but I'm so happy it did. Watching you break a game I struggled with as a kid (I think I got a normal champion only a handful of times) was super cathartic

@@Narutokiiuby yup my thoughts too, almost 300k now. The commentary couch has that dynamic that reminds people of their childhood. Glad they have been noticed.
I feel bad for that Greymon at the last area. Needing to poop on the most crucial moment of his life.
It is sad that this is the only Digimon run between AGDQ, SGDQ and ESA
I don't think "save the animals" has ever fit a game better than Digimon World. Literally the whole game.

This was one of my first runs I saw live, and I am still so glad I did. :3
I remember purchasing a guidebook with a map of the continent that Digimon World takes place in, I was always curious what is that green portion of the land which would eventually be revealed as Beetleland. Back in the days when people did not know the existence of GameFaqs and whatnot, nobody knew how to get there.
I remember buying this game at Sam's Club when I was little, with my own money. I didn't regret it at all. I always play this game with a bowlful of Hamburger Helpers. Ah, good times. X3
We got there without a guide but tried fishing seadramon for days until we caught him.

Unfortunarely most of us doesn't live at US nor that we can also fly there and staying. This is the best we can afford and thank them for running this game...
We got few Digimon games speedrun at RPG Limit Break years ago before and during pandemic...

if this game was less grindy and less buggy, maybe digimon would be at another place today... such a unique twist at the mosnter rpg genre.
I love this game, it'll always be the game I associate with my childhood and the sequel of this game, next order, was also very good.

Based on datamines not feeding is surprisingly doesn't kill your Digimon. The Digimon can only die from lifespan and battles lol...
But not feeding will count for care mistakes as well as pooping outside toilet and not sleeping. Not sleeping will slowly kill Digimon faster than normal because his happiness will decrease and Happiness is factor to keep Digimon not decreasing lifespan (above 80%)
Doesn't illness also kill your Digimon if untreated for too long?

I think the best part of this game was when you accidentally stumbled on a good digimon for the first few times.
digimon world defeated every little kid who thought they could finish any game,on the other side i finished pokemon silver when i was 7 and i didnt even speak english yet. Now which is a better game? pokemon is a total autopilot one hit ko everything -__- snooze fest. Digimon world 1+3, digimon dawn/dusk, digimon redigitize, digimon cyber sleuth, digimon digital card battle, digipet x tamer, digimon heroes, thats were is it at baby boy.

I love this game! I only explored the island when I was a kid since i had no ideia how digievolution workes at the time. Now, even play its psp remake Digimon Re-Digitize
I have only seen Greymon do the Spinning Shot animation in this speedrun and I was not prepared for it

i didn't expect this game could be done by using a champion class digimon, well played!
I'm impressed it was under estimate. The runner set the time rather close to his PB for a rather RNG-crazy game, and chose the slower route.
Out of curiosity, I was wondering how they handled the digimon's fatigue levels whilst they were speedrunning during training and fighting?
During any% fatigue isn't really a concern, as it either wont reach critical levels before you have to sleep again or it's effects don't matter at all to you.
You rest 2-3 times per day during evolution training and I actually wonder why, as it's not strictly necessary.
For 100pp it's a bit more of a concern while routing, as you want to have specific happiness/discipline at certain points.
Reminder this is the old route, the concern is 1 stat for training on fatigue. It does not matter in slots route since you already get 2x stat than you want...

Playing this game as a child my agumon would invariably digivolve into the pile of poop with googly eyes instead of greymon.
Me and my friend had a friendly rivalry with this game and battled regularly in VS.
I somehow trained this unbeatable crazy strong skullgraymon and he had to raise a specific digimon that was pretty week, but countered my SGM pretty damn well.
Obviously we played this without any guidbooks or anything and we didn't even know what the Internet was, but we still loved it.
So yeah, I love this game, one of the most memorable games of my childhood. Two was okay, but after that the only one I really liked is Cyber Sleuth which came out this year so... Yeah.

God I remember this game...I could never beat it because the Digimon would evolve into dungmon or the slime eventually or they eventually die so u had to re level again...

one of the best games ever made. unfortunately the pal version is bugged and impossible to finish without tricks
also was disappointed with mt infinity. doesnt look like a mountain at all. seemed like their animation budget ran out :P
only possible if you used glitches like opening the disc slot at a special time
@@balthasarirvine1295 Definitely not true in English UK PAL. I have finished it twice on real hardware, 3 times on emulator, never had any issues with ogremon questline at all.
From what I've read it's Spanish and German that have the game ruining bugs the PAL version is known for.

It's a care mistake to force them to train while tired, or "sweating". Actually getting to the tired/sweating state isn't in itself a care mistake.

44:52 Funny enough, on the german version of this game, you can't procede here because they forgot to insert the translated textbox for agumon, therefore you can't talk to it.
You need to do really wanky playstation disk opening shenanigans to get into debug mode etc. :D

+Amoun dk A good example of this happening is the Fire Emblem by Bertin at AGDQ 2014.
They let them keep playing within reason, but if it gets too bad they just end the run.
+Amoun dk Generally those estimate times are pretty long, they easily finish under that time, it is there just for the schedule's sake. But they can fail sometimes and drop the game , yeah. The important part is the action itself and having fun. If they get a WR during the runs all the better ;)
HelloQro You gave a better answer and true I was going to say Ecco example too . Poor BlueGlass :D He was sad at the end of that run . Some runners (prolly want to keep the schedule tight also give good estimates true . thanks for a better answer sir
+Emrah Ekinci if I remember correctly, there was also a guy who tried to run Pokemon Blue, but went over the estimate time when he got stuck in the battle with Lance.
+Amoun dk depending on schedule they either get Cut (bertin, fire emblem) or they continue playing (henneko, Prince of persia.)
Is there any "modern" game like this ? or a remake?
They've been making new Digimon games for the Vita and PS4. Could look into those. A few have come to the US.

digimon world re: digitize can be played on a psp emulator on pc (it has a english patch). Its the successor to this game.

Only played this game once breifly and somehow I got vademon really quick. then I quit. i always liked dw2 better.

+escaperoutebritish I'll tell you, I recently downloaded and played it, then my Digimon died just like it did in my childhood, so it's not a question of wits, the game just straight up doesn't tell you what you need to know. Then I looked at the guide and lost the will to play, because once you read and see how it all works, it kinda beats the fun out of it, if that makes sense.

Your digimon MAY have died due to care mistakes but it does die sometimes for no rational reason. The only time it dies for seemingly no reason is this absolutely dumb mechanic where you have a champion / ultimate Digimon which you've flawlessly looed after, then the game decides it should die of old age which is absolutely stupid and frustrating.
I replayed this game the other week, had a Phoenixmon I soaked time in to get, then it just died. If the digivolution mechanics weren't so specific and the death mechanics weren't so random, unfair and broken, I would not hesitate at all to recommend this to more people. I still like it but a Digimon dying for no reason is ridiculous and a big slap in the face. They try to band aid the tumor by passing down abilities but it doesn't negate the fact you have to soak in a lot of time to get a champion or ultimate again.
This game meant no sense to me growing up. The game itself is not very intuitive, and having the evolutions be so hidden in their accessibility... this game is bad.
The game is amazing... the lack of info and a few of the glitches are terrible though (namely the jukebox glitch that corrupts your game)
