    So fun fact, I went through about 70% of the game (up to the mountain map) as a kid without a guide or knowing anything. It was a hell of a grind and took me 120+ hours, but it is possible 😂

    i actually thought the way the game loads is amazing for its time not only does it load faster that way and easier on the ps1 at that time, they also gave the game a more digital world feeling.. i always just assumed the blocks on the screen was "loading data" in the game world and felt alot more natural then a blank loading screen.

    • @InfiniteComboReviews
      @InfiniteComboReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I don't dislike how the game loads. It looks neat and fits the part real well, but the fact that it needs to load even when you just used the menu is a bit excessive on top of reloading after every random battle. Which there was a lot of. It makes navigating much more cumbersome than it needs to be.

    I love this game, but it has lots of issues :
    -Not many good quality of life things, like teleports from a city to another cities, to gain time and they could do that using savepoints.
    -EXP curve is so bad. Leveling up takes AGES, especially for digivolutions and there are a LOT of digimon to get.
    -Encounter rate can be a pain, we should be able to choose if we want more or less battles. (OR make it like digimon world and simply avoid a fight by running)
    -Ultimate attacks at some point deal less damage than a simple attack, they don't scale well, especially magic techniques. You can't simply make a "mage build". So you basically spam attack, except for some physical techniques that adds special effects or elements.
    -Equipments only gives stats, they could add some special passive abilities to vary the gameplay.
    I still love it, but it could be much better.

    This game is very visually and audibly attractive. The sprites and overworld look amazing, and they're so bright and colorful. I think that's what makes this game so nostalgic and loved. I would love to play a Digimon game with this visual style, but with Dawn's or Cyber Sleuth's battle system. The battle system in this game is rough, and earning monsters is grindy. This game could also use a lot less backtracking and better writing. I love this game, but it's one of those games I don't know if I'll ever finish.

    Several thoughts about this:
    - I didn't use a Strategy Guide for this game. World 1 and 2 I did, but I actually had fun just figuring things out with Digimon World 3.
    - The Mobius Desert had a specific section to it. Yes, it was very confusing at times and I spent a good amount of hours there but it was fun and thrilling once I found the correct pathway.
    - Yeah, the mask part early on was a hassle but it was still enjoyable to uncover the mystery of it.
    - One definitely needs patience with this game, even with a Strategy Guide. I have plenty of patience but learned more patience while playing Digimon World 1 as I don't usually play RPG style games.
    - The Blast Gauge was awesome! It took some time filling it back up but I would time it and switch between characters to use it mostly for harder battles. Loved that feature.
    - Digimon Card Battle was fun. I'm not into card games, but I actually liked it. Not bad for my first card game.
    - I kept hearing lines like "doing the grinding, putting in the work, making an effort" etc. Yes, as with anything that you want to enjoy its great to do all that. Again, had no Strategy Guide for this game so putting in a lot of time and effort allowed me to finish the game. So glad I did because the story was cool and crazy.
    - No, this game is NOT for everyone. Very true. Not everything is, but I definitely enjoyed it. Playing an updated version of this game, along with Digimon World 1 and Data Squad would be too great.
    Thanks for the look and memories into this awesome game. 🙂

    Yeah this game is a Pokémon clone, and I would not mind that, if it were not for the fact that 99% of the game is backtracking and talking with random people, random places..... The quest to get submarinemon is a perfect example of that.... Go to the new area, get you haunted, get kicked in your butt by a mon that is way too strong, return to the haunted place, find out what is problem is, go to the area where you had to go to get to fight the first boss mon, then go back to the first city, then talk with etamon who is cheating you, go to the forrest on the way to the second area you hust came from, talk with a random man in the forrest, then go back to etamon, then he flees, then you chase him, then you go back to the haunted guy, then go back to the first city, talk with etamon, get some random customes, infiltrate the evil guys plan, talk with random lady on your way to the second city, then go to a pagoda talk with its wall, then go back to the guy you had to talk to after you got haunted, hand him some drop only tnt bomb, then go back to the haunted man, go back to the pagoda. The game does kinda of suck now that I’m older but when ur using the speed option it’s definitely tolerable! It’s a game, to me, that’s gonna be fun if you’re a real digimon fan. Otherwise it’s a huge mess 😂 there was a youtuber I watched while I was younger to figure out how to even play the game

    I played this game when I was a child. A child that could barely speak English since it's not my first language. I remember learning a LOT of stuff reading the dialogue in this game and having a dictionary (yes, a printed dictionary, since the internet wasn't that big back then) and somehow, maybe by a miracle, I was able to beat it.
    It is DEFINITELY, and NO DOUBT ABOUT IT, a product of its time. Back then we had a lot more patience with our games because we could afford it. Nowadays our attention span is much, much lower and there's no room for the kind of frustration that the random padding (and the Mobius Desert) inflicts upon the players. Side-quests? Sure! But putting them in the way, forcing you to talk to a thousand different Guilmon to get the stupid Blue Card, taking 5 hundred years to recover Sepikmon's mask, finding your way to the second server with the pallette-swapped areas, making your way through the pallette-swapped areas for the first time just to be barred by an unwinnable fight you were never forewarned, trying to figure out where (or even who, in case you forgot his name) Kenny is after you're told to look for help in that weird server.... and getting a lot of content blocked because at some point pretty much all NPCs are uninteractable due to a curse...
    Dude, this game might have been a blast when it was released, but if any of this was included in a modern game, I'm sure it would be review-bombed in the blink of an eye. It just doesn't hold up.
    But for those who had the patience (or lack of better things to do) to dissect this game's battle and card system all the way to the end, then hell yeah it was a great experience.
    Also anyone who says this isn't a blatant attempt at cloning a Pokémon game is in denial. >:( It's a great game, but it couldn't get any more obvious than, well, the way you explained it lol. 2 friends, badges, becoming the world champ.... yeah no way out of that, bandai lol

      You're right on the money, except that I think, even with kids today, with all the free time a child has, they'd probably still push forward through all the padding and madness. After all, they all grind for gotcha, so I think its an age thing alongside the attention span issue, though that doesn't make it any better.

    One of my favorite games of all time, and I've replayed it so many times, it's oozing with charm with the music, atmosphere, and art. However... Yeah it's full of flaws. The backtracking and unclear direction of where to go next, as well as some of the worst "fast travel" systems ever implemented (why did they make fast travel into a maze..). Unfortunately, I doubt we'll get a remake any time soon, at most we'll get a port that is barely modified.
    Itd be so nice to get a remake with quality of life updates though.. keeping the charm would be so hard to do though in 3d, I'm not sure if I can trust them with that. The least they can do is make a new game with a very similar setting though. Digimon does the whole SAO isekai concept in DW3 better than anything else ever has imo.

    • @InfiniteComboReviews
      @InfiniteComboReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've actually heard rumors that they want to remake Digimon World 1 so there's hope that 3 might get its day, though yeah, sometimes charm can only happen once with a big part of that due to the limitations of the time. Still, an updated version with quality of life enhancements would be amazing. Maybe a real fast travel system. Also I did enjoy the SAO concept, but I feel like it was barely touched on until the end and I didn't really want to spoil that part of the story.

      I mean, there is no other tamagotchi game on the market at Digimon's level of quality and popularity. It's a more or less unique formula for the franchise. Therefore, Bandai should continue to publish games of this style.

    This one is easily the best all round digimon game of ps 1-3 although could use some adjustments and definitely needs a remake its a shame so many other gamas get a remake. Data squad and world 1 are next. World 2 and 4 are trash although 2 has a good story. The graphic design of 3 , music and Verity of digimon and map makes it easily the best. Also the story was light and also very dark at the same time which was great. Not for kids at all . The story is so compeling that adults cant grasp it actually. It links "terror -ism" as bad guys and how the hero needs to do the impossible and defeat ... Almost mother Earth. Easily the best. They could easily make world 3 a movie and it would be a masterpiece. Or even an anime

    I'm almost certain that Digimon World 2003 (so called because the second game was never released in Europe) is optimised for playing on PS2. There were a couple of settings you could enable on the PS2 that would allow you to take advantage of the more powerful hardware and if you enabled these you would see minor improvements in the game, for example, less blue squares on screen as you moved about. Most other games I tried with these settings on would just crash the game.
