your point about the north american & europe packs being regional preferences was correct. most of the animals in the NA pack just don't do much for me, the ones in the europe pack however - they're animals you'll find in even small, regional zoos across europe. i enjoy the scenery pieces an equal amount
im european and that shit isnt in zoos, mabye in small ones yes but i have only been in seajean, valencia and barcelona and the animals are more exotic
I agree. The Europe pack has five animals I regularly use, the NA pack have less even though it contains more. And the arctic fox, moose and beaver are as european as they are north american. I do love the cougar though, its my favorite looking cat in the game.
Absolutely. All those animals are incredibly common in zoos near me, big zoos that also have lions, elephants etc and small zoos that have more regional animals.
I also kinda wish we could put exhibit animals that live in the same environment as habitat animals together. Like I’d love to see some bullfrogs chilling in the pond in my raccoon enclosure. Realistically it wouldn’t make sense because they’d probably get eaten but aesthetically? It would be pretty neat looking
As an outsider looking in, statements like “the tapir well… we all know the situation with that animal” are so funny to me. What about the tapir? What did this creature do?? lol
It was essentially a recolor of the base game Baird's Tapir instead of being unique like everyone thought it deserved. That and it stole my bike when I was 7 years old :(
As European it was weird seeing the red fox in a zoo. Here they’re very common animals in the city and countryside. Like raccoons in America. We aren’t allowed to put animals found in the wild in our zoos at least not those who are common. I mean wouldn’t you find it weird to walk into a zoo expecting exotic animals and finding the exact same species of squirrels as in your backyard?
I'm Canadian and there's a sizeable zoo in my city that focuses solely on the province's wildlife-- raccoons and red foxes were present! I personally still had a great time because they aren't animals I see everyday. Not many exotic animals up here and it's probably for the best.
I’m actually looking forward to squirrels for that reason and hope we get them. I’m American so squirrels are very common in the wild, but my dad was stationed in Japan when I was a young kid and my mom would tell me about there being squirrels in the zoos in Japan. I was so fascinated by it, how could a squirrel ever be considered a zoo animal, and now I’d love to build for them! Squirrels in a zoo is just so weird to me that I really want to make it happen, not to mention it’d just be such a unique rig for modders (which isn’t necessarily something the red fox brings with it).
@@Lemon_squee Not really, zoos are fundamental in conservation, most endangered or vulnerable species today are not extinct because of zoos and other kinds of wildlife sanctuaries If it was not for zoos, the giant panda would be extinct in wild and so other species
That's not quite correct. There are red foxes in zoos because they're not as common anymore as you'd like to believe, at least not over here in Germany. Europe is very diverse
There are two factors your tier list didn't consider: animal niche (meaning, how different the new animals are compared to what other packs bring), and story scenario (because a lot of people enjoy the scenarios too, even if franchise/sandbox is what youtubers focus on). With that in mind, Aquatic pack is considered S tier for many players (I recently saw a poll on reddit where it won as the most popular pack by a landslide) because it delivers strongly in those two fronts. The Twilight pack was also pretty popular on that survey, and I assume is for the same reasons.
Excellent video! One of the interesting things is the “outdated” take on the faux rocks, since they do look like irl dated concrete rocks. Definitely time for new rocks!
You'll also notice the planet zoo team really strayed away from using the faux rocks this year as well. This is really shown in the trailers. The only rocks that were really used were the base game ones. Only I believe in the twilight trailer were there some of the smaller faux rocks scattered around.
As a San Diego native I was sold as soon as I hear the words "California Sea Lion". In La Jolla there's a beach that closes every year for the sea lion breeding seasons and in down town San Diego you can get on sea lion tours. I love sea lions
The lynx is my favourite real life animal and the Europe pack really made it justice. I'm probably biased because I'm Swedish, but all those animals (except the deer and badger) are common in our zoos. We also have most NA species too :)
Im British, and unfortunately disagree completely with your assessment of the European pack. I think the roster is a really strong one, and the models look amazing. Still to this day, the lynx and the fallow deer are two of my personal favourite and best looking models in the game. the building pieces are just amazing, and very very accurate to typical mainland European buildings. Before the European pack came out, the European animal roster was weak. With maybe the reindeer, timber wolf and grey seal representing the whole continent. (Even then they can be found in north America). The only slightly disappointing thing for me was the decals (which are amazing) formed most of the piece count of the new pieces, rather than anything more substantial like another wall set, or decorative pieces.
@@fredstar-mw4tlthat’s why he said personal preference. You wouldn’t typically see these animals in America, therefore, they aren’t typically appealing for Americans. I kinda agree with the Animal Packs only going forward but on the other hand i dont :D. Im personally good on building themes, however i really want more decoration props, like cars for parkinglots, playgrounds and so on :)
What we need most is a rework of textures on nature items, more terrain textures, colors and types, like different sands, or different grass, either dead grass, or tall grass ect
Same as why you like the north america pack i love the ones with australian animals just because thats where im from and thats what i see the most. My local zoo only has the sea lion from the north american pack although ive seen beavers, alligators and cougars when i was in america.
The conservation is the pack I want the most ONLY for the horses lol, but that’s because it reminds me of the wild horses in Wyoming. Now that I live down south I miss seeing the wild horses running on the mountain sides
I do wish they made the packs more specific. For example, because the South American pack is called the South American pack, now every square inch of South America is not a candidate for a new pack.
i hope in future they do more packs with more regional animals they already had a pack named after that region. "south america +" or something, and make it a tad cheaper
Yeah I’m Australian and see koalas all the time (wild and in zoos), and it looked very similar so I don’t get what he’s complaining about with it’s design

Sad to hear the Australian pack doesnt rank well, i do agree though. I dont play Planet Zoo (very much want to tho) but the very 'Aussie' aesthetics of the pack dont have much utility, aswell as the indigenous influences on the designs dont have much value to non australian players. There is also plenty of other interesting Australian animals they could have used.
I'm from south america so not really biased, but I really loved the european pack. The animals are not as interesting as zoo animals as the ones in the north american pack, sure, but they still are very interesting and it makes up by having really gorgeous building pieces imo.
As a Canadian the North America pack was a must and I use the never and moose in almost every zoo. Also as someone who has done a lot of research projects on animals included in the conservation pack, I love it.
The thing with alot of Australian animals, many are small creatures unlike other countries. If you're having a problem with running bigger packs at least smaller creatures take less space on your pc. I mean as an Aussie player I'd love to see more of our creatures, but I'm aware many won't ever get made because they're not as big as everything in other countries (but I'd love a proper Australian zoo in a game one day) Also, koalas aren't that exciting an animal. I'm glad to see people talk about the Aussie pack being like. Bad. It wasn't even that great for the time, and it's only gotten worse with age. The build pieces were lackluster and while the cassowary and kangaroo were good choices, the dingo was an awful choice and the koala wasn't done well enough. It really hurt especially because we only had a single Australian animal since. Luckily, you can never buy the Aussie pack and have at least 4 or 5 other Aussie animals we've gotten over the past few years so you're not hurting too bad. Really the only thing you really hurt from not having is the kangaroo I suppose.
@harmony8623 the game at the time had literally one australian animal, the saltwater crocodile, and out of all the australian animals they could have picked, they chose a feral dog breed. There are so many unique and interesting species from Australia and they chose the one that isn't even native.
While living overseas, I've seen 0 animals from the US... so ok you have your little national pride that puts it in the S tier but those animals are mostly boring and plain. For the European ones, we do either get the Lynx or get a mention of it in zoos. But generally speaking unless it's endangered or rare to come by, it has no business being in a zoo (for Europeans anyway)... so I don't see why they put the badger, the deer and the salamander in there... if you're talking about taking typical animals from each "biome" they should have taken the wild boar over the deer any day... for the other packs I wouldn't be able to say.
"We all know the situation with that...." No. No we all don't know. You've assumed that new players will never find this video, and now here I am, considering buying the game for the first time, and wondering what in the jungle is wrong with whatever asset you're talking about! ☹️😵💫😵💫
As someone who lives in sweden and was born in Germany I really disagree on the Europe pack, it's great you have animals you see in every zoo and even in my old local park, Name one zoo without fallows, ibex and co, badgers are very common where I live.
I want to start play Planet Zoo, but I don't know where to begin. :/ Is there like, a whole deluxe pack with all the DLCs? Buying all of them separately is troublesome (& expensive, I bet)
Yep Planet Zoo does have a deluxe or ultimate edition with all the dlcs. It is quite costly. So what I recommend is you check out all of the packs on steam and see what they have to offer in terms of animals and building pieces. If I were to give advice to beginner players on which dlcs are worth it right off the bat I would go with Africa, Conservation and Grasslands. These packs give good variety and two of them are scenery packs with very useful and realistic pieces to play around with. These packs also overall have very good Animal selections including animals like White Rhinoceros, Meerkats, African Penguins, Siamangs, Amur Leopards, Emus and Wallabies. Planet Zoo also has seasonal sales every March, June, October and December where you can get DLC for very cheap. If you have anymore questions let me know! It's very exciting to see new people get into the game!
As someone who lives in North America… there really aren’t that many North American animals in zoos near me. It could be because I’m in Colorado and the cougar, prairie dog, and Bison are already found in the wild in my state, but just wanted to comment.
Not really sure what you're talking about here. The 3 biggest zoos in Colorado being, Denver, Cheyenne Mt, and Pueblo all have pretty decent lineups of North American species. Cheyenne and Pueblo both have dedicated exhibits/sections for North America's fauna, and Denver has a huge one in their master plan. But even then they still have Northern Shores if memory serves. Maybe some smaller non accredited zoos in the state are lacking, but the 3 big ones aren't.
yea, I've said it both ways numerous times. I know saying it with the u sound is correct, you can go back to my videos on grasslands and I promise I say it correctly lol. I just have so many people in my day to day life say it like emoo that I slip up from time to time. Same thing with the pronunciation of Tapir. So many people in NA say "Tape-Er" but when you go down to SA they say it in english as "Tape-Yer" which is correct. All just a bunch of American bad habits hahaha
Idk man the european animal selection seems fine enough to me, with the exception of the deer. I see those around domesticated quite often, and you can order some sort of deer dish at pretty much every inn. Apart from that, the only other animal i sometimes encounter is the firesalamander, but those look so outlandish that i'll gladly give them a pass as a zoo exhibit
I know this is a zoo game and some of you are judging the animals from the Zoo standpoint, but personally I love creating wild/fantasy landscapes in planet zoo. So I absolutely LOVE the European pack, because I, as a Northern European, can find most of those animals in the wild. I was ecstatic when I saw the animals in that pack because fallow deer are my favourite animals ever. North America is boring to me because I have 0 connection to any of those animals and same goes for the twilight pack. The fox is good though.
My personal list ▪︎ Top 5 : - Grasslands - Wetlands - Africa - SA - Aquatic ▪︎ Animals pack : - Grasslands - Wetlands - SEA - NA ▪︎ Scenery pack : - Africa - SA - Aquatic - Australia - Conservation - Twilight - Artic - Europe
I really hope it’s animal packs going forward. Outside of unique props I think we are set with building pieces. And there are so many animals that need to be in game (for the love of god please more birds) it would be better for the game going forward to focus on that.
i dont even know what game is this, but he is right with the europe pack, as a european i fell in live with the decoration but the animal selection seems mediocre at his bedt odds, but the european animals are not very attractive ones, especially bc a lot of european fauna is now in almost all the world so doesnt feel exotic
The conversation pack sucks purely because Australia has the highest amount of endangered species in the WORLD, and yet there was none in that pack. Tasmanian devil, bandicoot, eastern quoll, numbat, echidnas are all beautiful species and endangered.
Ummmm, no? Australia does not have the highest amount of endangered species. Like it's not even in the top 10 countries. As far as continents go Asia and South America have the most endangered species and its not even close.
personally i just really dislike planet zoo having dlc in the first place. things like striped hyenas, jaguars, rhinos, etc shouldve all been base game. It just seems veerrryyy money hungry to me. Not to mention, i dislike both the european and north american packs because they're just not zoo animals! they are just common wildlife found in those areas that aren't really zoo staples. Why have a moose habitat when there are moose right outside? its just not even close to being a pick for me.
Unpopular opinion, I really dislike the Aquatic Pack, The animals could easily be replaced with more deserving animals, And the fact this is THE closest to aquarium pack we'll get is really dissapointing, I would have replaced them with true marine: - California Sea Lion - Green Sea Turtle - Emperor Penguin - Sea Otter - Sea Horses

The dingo is good wdym
"We all know the situation with that...."
No. No we all don't know. You've assumed that new players will never find this video, and now here I am, considering buying the game for the first time, and wondering what in the jungle is wrong with whatever asset you're talking about! ☹️😵💫😵💫
North african pieces are underrated, mix of berber and arabic architecture are S tier
man just said the Giant Leaf Insect was bad... that is the entire reason I have Southeast asia pack... 😢
I’m not in this fandom, I’ve never played this game but omg the koala’s eyes are kinda scaring me
the way you feel about koala bears is how i feel about the jaguars lmao
Only animal would use in the Europe pack is lynx but only use it recreating other zoos
As someone who lives in sweden and was born in Germany I really disagree on the Europe pack, it's great you have animals you see in every zoo and even in my old local park, Name one zoo without fallows, ibex and co, badgers are very common where I live.
Im getting 3 dlc packs for this coming Christmas where i am ive decided african, wetlands, grassland, what do you think
As an american, the night pack was a letdown. The wombat and bats are cool. The rest are considered pests were I live.
@@OldCountry Thank you so much for answer!☺I'll be definitely checking out these DLCs and see which ones suit me the best!
What would you say is the best pack for foliage?
it feels weird seeing people treating the twilight pack animals as zoo animals because i see 3 of them as pest
very helpful video, thank you!
Glad to see Gort on the thumbnail
As an Australian its not emoo its emU with a U 😹😹😹
yea, I've said it both ways numerous times.
I’m so gonna get the South America pack when I get planet zoo, anteaters in my opion are so cool 😎
I love all of them 🤩
I’m building a zoo right now and I want to add polar bears it’s really the only thing I like about the Artic dlc
I love your videos already
20:56 - definitely one of the packs of all time
I just got every DLC to not miss out on blueprints from the workshop lol
Wetlands best pack 100%
25:03 arid animal pack and Oceania pack moment
To be honest, I finally bought the game because there is otter in it.
great video! I wholeheartedly agree with Grasslands being the best pack!
My personal list
▪︎ Top 5 :
- Grasslands
- Wetlands
- Africa
- SA
- Aquatic
▪︎ Animals pack :
- Grasslands
- Wetlands
- SEA
- NA
▪︎ Scenery pack :

Personally I think they should also add a grey fox
My pack list:Australia pack A
Europe pack D
Asian pack C
South America pack S
North American pack F
Aquatic pack E
I really hope it’s animal packs going forward. Outside of unique props I think we are set with building pieces. And there are so many animals that need to be in game (for the love of god please more birds) it would be better for the game going forward to focus on that.
12 DLCS???? (I haven’t played the game cuz I’m waiting for it to come on console)
13dlcs
Well they said they had no plans if porting it
@@HollowKnightReferencedidnt frontier say in 2020 that it might be coming to console in 2024?
I am watching this just to see what sort of herps are in the game
Most of them are in the base game. Check out my exhibit animal tier list to see a majority of them
i need a mini map on this game
i dont even know what game is this, but he is right with the europe pack, as a european i fell in live with the decoration but the animal selection seems mediocre at his bedt odds, but the european animals are not very attractive ones, especially bc a lot of european fauna is now in almost all the world so doesnt feel exotic
As far as continents go Asia and South America have the most endangered species and its not even close.
i like all of them
You seem to really love hating rocks lol
Perfect 🥰 😊
The aquatic pack was my least fave for some reason
You are so Quiet bro💀💀💀
personally i just really dislike planet zoo having dlc in the first place. things like striped hyenas, jaguars, rhinos, etc shouldve all been base game. It just seems veerrryyy money hungry to me.
Not to mention, i dislike both the european and north american packs because they're just not zoo animals! they are just common wildlife found in those areas that aren't really zoo staples.
Why have a moose habitat when there are moose right outside? its just not even close to being a pick for me.
i finly got all dlcs yeaday
Unpopular opinion, I really dislike the Aquatic Pack, The animals could easily be replaced with more deserving animals, And the fact this is THE closest to aquarium pack we'll get is really dissapointing, I would have replaced them with true marine:
- California Sea Lion
- Green Sea Turtle
- Emperor Penguin
- Sea Otter
- Sea Horses
This is so biased mate Americans man
