here's what I've found on my guitar journey: if you tend to favor cleaner sounds, the stratocaster is the way to go. If your playing leans towards a more dirty (high gain) sound, go with the les paul. both are great at what they do and neither really sounds like the other, it's personal taste. Personally, i use a stratocaster with a humbucker in the bridge and 2 single coils. i find the 5 way switch to be very versatile and this combination meets all my musical needs :) hope this helps.

wow, a Les Paul with a maple fretboard. I own both a Les Paul and a Strat but with the classic setup of a rosewood fretboard for the LP and maple for my Strat. I m a Strat guy first and foremost but I also love my LP. Both are great guitars, its a matter of personal prefrences between the two, you can't go wrong with either. BTW, I m about to add a new guitar to the clan, an SG standard in the coming months

Randy Durger It's a Les Paul Custom... As in Custom Shop... As in built by a pro luthier. Not gonna get in an argument about Gibson's QC either, as I have a 2013 LP Signature T that is of top notch quality, and many of my guitar-playing friends own LPs that are also flawless. They're both amazing guitars. In my personal, totally subjective, uneducated opinion, the LP takes the cake in this instance. But, let's turn down the gain a little and then see which one comes out on top. I wonder what would have happened if SRV had an LP and Page played a Strat. The world as we know it would be turned upside down...But I'm sure it would still rock.

It caused me to play in ways I hadn't exploited on my other guitars but then the strat does the same as well. The killer LP tone on the rhythm pickup is hard to beat. On the other hand the bite of a strat (mine's a 73) in the bridge pickup is classic. As you know, you have to own them both. Great playing!!

From what I understand pretty much there was no easy to find left handed option. But another thing to think about it that the les paul design doesn't really work upside down as well as the stratocaster because it would restrict too many frets. In the end it could have been a matter of preference, doesn't really differ from how all of us are with having a preference for one brand over another.

My strats I play clean or with little dist, my LPs, Wash Idols & semi hollows I play usually with mid to mod and sometimes a lot of dist, and my Ibanez's, Kramers usually heavy dist. I just love guitars. Best sounding guitar I ever played was a Kramer Hollow Finish (sp?) then Eric Johnson strat, then my 40th anni LP 57 LP GT

This was a really good unbiased comparison. you played to both of there strengths and you did a great job. your playing is unreal too!! I love the Gibsons styling but the Strat one me over.

I mostly play acoustic but just decided to go electric. I love LP's sustain but prefer Strat's look, feel and versatility. I couldn't decide on either so I compromised. I bought a Strat with humbuckers and found the perfect guitar (for me). The moral of the story here is, it's all about preference. It's important not to lose sight of the actual music here.

Comparing a Les Paul and a Strat is like comparing Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis. Both are great in their own right and both are worth checking out.

    GUITAR COMPARISON
Les Paul: bassy tone. Rich, warm. Very smooth.
Strat: crisp tone. Nice and clear high end with a tone that soars.
Both great (but I preger the Strat) (: Anyway, excellent playing on both guitars, my good sir. You'd make Hendrix proud. ;)

They are obviously both great. Which is why they are still as popular as ever.

@MrIkesimba You make a good point allot of these guys play a gibson es-335 which is also a great blues guitar, but none of the play just one guitar, several of these guys played most their carrier on fender, but your right the did have variety which added to the range of tones these guitarists put out. If any one wants to see that I'm strat correct just google any of these guys posted and you'll see a variety of guitars they play but they almost all have a by their side.

I've played both, extensively. I can get the sound I want out of either, but I really prefer the neck and body contour of the Strat. Definitely a more comfortable guitar to play on a 4 Hr. gig. .

The best versus between electric guitars, I have both Legends and can create unique sounds, good choice!

I prefer the Gibson Les Paul over the Fender Strat because of the guitar's feel when playing, it's looks and the fact it has 2 volume control knobs and 2 pickup knobs as well as the rhythm and treble switch.
