    Do not use adhesive sticker, use a glue B-7000 (buy on eBay or at local store). Adhesive sticker does not keep the screen tightly on the left side and bottom corner due to a design ledge. With the glue it's even possible to make the phone water-proof again. The glue allows to open the phone again with the same technique.

    Thanks for this great tutorial video.
    I could fix my phone because of this. I dropped mine a few times. No cracks but the screen was getting so loose that it was only hanging by its screen cable. The phone was miraculously still working. I ordered the back and front sticker, a new ear speaker and usb cover. After good cleaning and successful assembly it is now working again. Yes the phone is fragile but so are many others as well. At least this one is easy to assemble. My next purchase will be a tough phone.... in 2-3 years.

    Successfully used tutorial and mentioned material! Thanks for the great
    and easy to understand tutorial, the prepaired links and fast shipping!
    (PS: Maybe you could change "Test display before closing back cover" from tip to mandatory. I just saw your tip right before closing and then realised the screen cable got unfixed...worked for me but someone else might overlook it)

    Bougth a new lcd, front and back side from the site and followed the instructions. Worke out fine and the phone working correctly. Although the front is a tiny bit loose but it doesn't matter to me. Im happy I got away cheaper then buying a new phone :)
    Just remember the 150 degrees are Farenheit and not Celcius (150 F = 66 C). I used a heater gun (200 degrees celcius) and used it for about 10 seconds and the layers came of just fine.

      STAFFFFFFAN Hi, I checked out your profile since I suspected that you were swedish (from your name) and you seem to be! I have a question, where did you find the LCD screen here in Sweden? I only found really expensive parts, like 1500 kr. Which is about as much as I would have to pay for the reparation itself...
      Du får gärna svara på svenska också :-P

      Fröken NH I bought them from witrigs, shipment with DHL was $24.
      Hittade inga svenska återförsäljare som sålde billigare, många sålde inte ens enskillt, men kanske går att ringa dom och fråga om ett undantag... Mitt gick på ca 1500 kr, men hellre det än en ny telefon.

    Same problem. The precut adhesive simply do not stick at all. Left side of the screen, right above the magnetic useless charger port, is lifting up. Thanks for this vid, now I know it's not just my incompetence ... time to use different adhesive.

    • @zlac
      @zlac 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      GraceandFrank Ingram If you want to check if your phone is still waterproof, you can go to service menu (press: *#*#7378423#*#* )
      In the service menu, you go to "Service tests" and "Pressure Sensor"
      whatever the number it is, when you push the phone, the numbers should go up (mine goes from 996 Millibar to 1009 Millibar). If the numbers stay the same, it's not waterproof anymore (if they go up when you press but you're not convinced, you can repeat the experiment with open USB port and you'll see the numbers stay the same)
      On my phone, when you press it, it will equalize in like 3 seconds, I think the phone does have some equalizing mechanism (So it doesn't explode when it heats up)

    Thank you so much! With your help i have defeated with my hands one of the main little fears of contemporary age, the broken screen :) I won't fear anymore 'cause i know i can fix it by myself
    3 little suggestions that don't come out clearly from the video:
    1_ the 5 screws are slightly different, so be careful (the 3 on top and bottom are bigger than the 2 on the sides if i remember well)
    2_ It takes a lot of care in keeping away the old stickers and the little fragments because i've read somewhere they can cause the screen to be badly positioned and the break of it.
    3_ You can use hairdryer to melt the glue
    Thank you so much you gave me belief and instruments to make it

    Great Video! I had no previous experiences with electronics and I was able to fix my broken screen with no problem.
    If you are like me doing it PUNK DIY style and don't have anything from the items apart from the screen you can still do it.
    Instead of a screwdriver, I used my paper cutter with trimmed top edge and instead of the blue plastic pads I used my guitar pick. And most importantly I had no original adhesive. Instead I used double sided tape that I cut in the right shape and dimension and it worked altho I recommend to use the original. It holds well, but I had a hard time to fit it as the tape is thicker than the original adhesive pad.

    I followed this video and had (almost) success. The problem is after putting on the LCD frame stickers, the screen is coming off the phone. There's light peeking out from the sides and I've already done it like 3 times with the same outcome.
    The back is even worse, the back panel just doesn't sit flush. I have done that thrice too and still the back panel starts coming off after like half an hour or so.
    Is there any way to ensure that I can make the panels sit flush with the phone and they don't come off? I need to sell my Z3C but nobody is gonna buy when light is leaking out from the sides.
    Thanks!

      Tried that too. Didn't work.

    • @Tikograph
      @Tikograph 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ankur Kapoor Clean the surfaces well before applying the adhesive. Then put on the back/screen (whatever side you're doing) fold up a paper towel on it and then stack thick books on top of it and let it sit for a few hours. The added weight ensures a tight glue.

    • @ankurkapoor3716
      @ankurkapoor3716 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tikograph Yeah that worked. For about half an hour. I put 7 Kg worth of my GMAT books and it started creeping back up after like half an hour.
      I did this like 4 times going through 4 stickers. I even put drying clips all around the phone for 2 hours and it came off again. My guess is as you use the phone and it heats up, the adhesive just stops working. As of now, both the screen and back cover 1-2 mm off the phone.

    • @Tikograph
      @Tikograph 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm sorry to hear that. I've done 2 back covers that way and they've been solid for months without any issues. I'm guessing bad adhesive or the contact points not clean enough?

    great video. think ive got a bit of a naff kit though as the front screen doesnt stay flush at the sides. the back and both ends on the front are fine. ive now got it under a tower of books to see if it helps at all

    • @amberlampz
      @amberlampz 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +doodlleus Use 5min 2-part epoxy. I used a small needle to apply it. (for sowing) Put the 2 part epoxy on a piece of paper, mix the epoxy and hardener, then , dip the needle into it, then put the needle in between the screen and the frame. Wipe off the excess glue on the sides of the phone. Then hold it down for a about 1-2min, then put some heavy books on the sides of the frame, I used C-Clamps. Let it sit for about 12hrs. Then your set. Also make sure to wear goggles and a breathing respirator because the chemicals give a bad reaction to your eyes and will make them burn. As well as smelling the epoxy is not good for you. Also wear gloves because if the epoxy sticks to your skin it is very hard to take off.

    • @lelmeister
      @lelmeister 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +amberlampz Could you elaborate more? I am about to replace my screen. Are you not using the sticker provided in the video at all? is it not waterproof after the change, because of low quality of the adhesives or the imperfect fit of the plastic? Even a OEM? Are there significant difference between Custom and OEM? You recommend a silicon adhesive glue, but if i need to replace it again?

    so people know you really do not need to heat up the back or front, i removed the front and back easily without heating up, the only issue i had which a few other stated is front glue is a bit weak, also another tip is the top speaker/microphone bit ( not sure what its called ) that you pull of the screen, rather than reattaching it to the new screen i found it easier to slot it into the gap on the phone, the weight of the screen will hold it in place, doing it this way stops you from putting it in the wrong way and in the correct place aswell

    • @EricWitrigs

    Hi. I replaced lcd screen with digitizer and all went well. But after few hours I noticed a light coming out from the side. Gently pulled digitizer and found that digitizer is separating from lcd screen. It got separated all the way to the bottom part and now I cant take whole screen out without separating lcd and digitizer and I dont know nothing about the cables if I separate lcd and digitazer. Now thinking to remove mother bord and try that way somehow to push it out all bits together. Maybe there is some other way to take it out? Any solution for that? Thank you.

    I have fixed Z1 compact phones before and bought screens from same place so pretty sure not new screen at fault.
    I am unsure what is problem?
    Have you encountered anything similar?
    Thanks

      maintenance personnel with original replacement parts, can the phone be
      waterproof again.

    I will never buy another sony phone. Had this about 2 years ago and never dropped it, the glue wore away and both front and back panels came away after 6-9months. Both my old Samsung S4 mini and S7 have never had a problem and still work perfectly today

    My z3 compact is cracked in the corner, and the top area of the screen is unresponsive to touch. The picture, however, displays fine. Would I need to buy an entire LCD+digitizer combo, or just the digitizer to replace?

    • @EricWitrigs
      @EricWitrigs  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** In theory you just need to replace the digitizer part.
      In fact it is hard for professional repairer to separate the digitizer from the lcd without any damage and combine them, let alone the nonprofessional. So we suggest you to replace the LCD screen with digitizer, www.witrigs.com/oem-lcd-with-digitizer-for-sony-xperia-z3-compact-white

    I can't get the screen to stick to the frame. It is lifting up on the sides, I've used the pre-cut adhesive, that didn't work, I tried using red VHB adhesive, that didn't work. I even tried using super glue to stick the screen to the frame, but that didn't work either.

  • @digitaldadprenuer

    those aftermarket adhesive pre cut tapes seems not hold the strength for lcd or battery cover,have to use plastic glue,after that found red adhesive tape,seems to be lot better than pre cut black.

      The lcd screen , touch screen and glass are attached
      together tightly, so it is hard to replace neither of them by a DIY repair work.
      If you want to replace only the glass, you should ask the professional
      for help. Or you can buy the original lcd screen with digitizer ( also called
      as touch screen ) and replace all these parts together by
      yourself.

    Hello wit rigs,
    I tried to record some underwate footage ( for around a minute and in the water at a depth of around 20~30 cm ). my screen is not working now, touching wont help nor will it light up, after getting the back off with out any scratches or bends i dried the back ( the battery was indeed slightly wet ) and now it gives some sort of black light with out any pixels on the screen and my touch it selfs wont get recognized. is there any way to fix this sollution of the ''water proof phone''?

    Hi the bottom half of my z3 compact is completely unresponsive to any touch after a friend dropped it by accident, I've gone to various phone repair stores and most say that they cannot do it due to the phone being moulded in a certain way at the Sony factory. Unfortunately I couldn't afford insurance therefore don't have it, do you know if mobile phone companies such as Vodafone (my contract) are able to repair them? Don't wanna call them as they always seem to keep me on the phone trying to pay the price without giving me time to think lol

    • @EricWitrigs
      @EricWitrigs  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +keanu farias Yes, but this video shows how to replace the whole screen assembly. To replace the display only asks for sepcial tools and professional skills, so it is not easy to fix the broken display just by DIY repair work. If you want to replace the phone by yourself, you'd better replace the whole screen with digitizer.
