Great , Great lesson !! Michael is a very good assistant for you Sensei .!! I really like the techniques that you're teaching . All of the techniques that you are demonstrating are very , very practical .. I don't have a " Assistant " to train with ; However , I can still practice all of the techniques you have demonstrated today ..Outstanding work to both of you .!! Thank You Sensei , and , Great T-shirt .!!
I am recently retired and love your videos. I'm about to go full time nomad. There is a huge gathering of nomads, mostly seniors in Quartzite AZ every January. It would be wonderful if you and/or Keith from Cane Masters could offer workshops on cane self defense there.
HI Matt. Sorry i missed the last few classes. Last week fell down on the wooden stairs, while tripping on some clothes that fell out of the laundry basket, while carrying them to the washing machine in the basement. I fell on my wrist, ribs and hip receiving an elbow injury (chipped ulnar bone). Reminds me of when i got the crap kicked out of me while in the academy. LOL! Healing good but still wearing a sling for another week. My question: "When blocking upward with the cane using one hand, do you ever use the secondary hand to hold the cane, near the bottom to help absorb hard strikes? Stay safe. Doug.

I was a tractor supply company and they had 1 shepherds staff, i cut off 1.5 ft and sanded and oil it. Its light but strong and works well, can you show techniques for a heavy cane vs light cane
Thanks for the video. I'm way behind, but I've had a full few months. Sometimes, it's been full of good. Sometimes, it's been full of not so good. If I'm doing this and my step puts me well to the side of an attacker, does a strike to the side of the neck have a good chance of stopping the attacker without doing fatal damage? When the attacker is directly in front of me, the strike is going to hit the windpipe. If I've moved so that I'm at a forty to sixty degree angle, maybe that same strike will hit the side of the throat instead. I think you said once that a good strike in that location can interrupt blood flow to the brain for just a moment and cause a knockout. A knockout is serious, but a knockout isn't as serious as breaking the windpipe and causing asphyxiation. I think I also heard that a good strike to that part of the skull just behind and below the ear can often cause a knockout. That would be another way to end someone's attack on me.
An observation that perhaps you can shed light on. It is recommended the cane is held with the pointy end towards the front. All of you videos indicate the opposite.
I am sorry but at the beginning the block is very awkward putting grandpa off balance, It will be better to be ready to hit opponents punch with a side slashing move .
Thank you for watching.

What diameter cane do you recommend for a 68 year old?
I like the 7/8” in hickory.
We have a 1"and 7/8" in hickory, it is easy to get that 7/8 moving rapidly.
Thank you Matt 💜

I do a lot of both. My older videos I didn’t really show it that way but I have evolved to see the great benefit of being able to do both.
SVP, jiondre la traduction du commentaire en FRANÇAIS ! Merci §
