    Matt, one thing that perhaps most people don't realize, and that you have covered in class, are those situations involving self defense but not requiring deadly force. Those times on patrol of actually needing the baton, or PR24 for self defense, were vastly greater than the firearm. This is why the cane is such an excellent tool, and with your instruction it helps cover those times when hands on "won't cut the mustard", and a firearm wouldn't be warranted.. Stay safe. Doug.

    Great video sir. Thanks a lot. As a disabled guy I used to do jujitsu for a couple of years, but I had to give it up due to my disability, but I’ve always tried to keep up with self-defence so thank you for your channel.

    Hi Matt, thanks for a great refresher and informative class. It is my hope to pursue the Zoom classes. Unfortunately, the laptop that was given to me does not have an operational camera. But hopefully i will be obtaining one in the future. Stay safe.

    Linseed oil is derived from Flaxseed oil. Flaxseed oil has health benefits, so is used for internal consumption and topical skin applications, it also absorbs deep into wood, so is perfect for protecting and weatherizing your wood cane. I also use olive and coconut oils which are also healthy alternatives that work well on wood.

    • @pasquinilli
      @pasquinilli  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes! Some linseed oils have petroleum in them now and are not so great for your skin. You have to make sure you get the real thing. Thanks!

    talking about the oils for maintenance ... I've worked with wood in acoustic guitar repairs. making traditional archery tackle & customizing/repairing pool cues ... as a hobby sideline for over 40 years & I had found one time the mineral oil soaking became a nono for a really dried out guitar bridge...unsure of that type of wood though - it was a white wood, but stained to resemble rosewood/ebony...
    I really overdid the soaking & it left the fibers mushy & spongy feeling... much weaker in resistance to dents & gouges also... I'm not saying this will happen to oak or hickory- but there's a heads up for the possibility it may affect other types someone might try to treat with mineral oil

    Mike, I had an Ash cane with a teardrop shaft (no it wasn’t a Canemasters cane). Anyway… I struck my practice bag with it only I must have hit the reverse side of the cane. It broke like a tree branch.😢
    I’m considering replacing it with an octagonal cane from Canemasters. But I would like to get your honest opinion on that design. Would you be willing to share any ideas.
    I can provide email address if you would prefer.

      Update made contact with CM, they not making any custom cane at this time, I can't get it in 7/8" they told me its not a big difference, I think it is. Do you have a 1" cane & a 7/8" cane? If so is there a difference in grip? Also, they not adding the option to add the Eyes as well. Not sure why?

    Matt you really need to talk about the ramifications of "self defense". If one of your students actually kills a bad guy with a head strike etc... they should know that they will be treated just like they used a gun. Such as was deadly force actually needed? Yes you can defend yourself but how far you take it could land you in jail.

    • @dannypresson4815
      @dannypresson4815 ปีที่แล้ว

      The cops could confuse the defender w the aggressor. Any bystanders may not have seen the initial attack; only the good guy whacking the thug. Also notice that the blue states and cities protect the thugs these days.

      Along with your cane, it's a good idea to have the phone number of your attorney on hand. I never thought I'd live to see the day when the legal system often sides with the criminal elements. When the cops question you, tell them you were attacked and defended yourself, don't offer anything more except that you want to call your attorney.

    • @dougboal7620

      When officers respond to a possible homicide, if there is questioning by the officers, it will probably fall under two types: inquistory or accusatory. Inquisitory is where facts are obtained using questioning including witnesses. But accusatory questioning is directed more towards a person's or (suspect's) possible involvement. This is when the Miranda Warning is read to that person. But most officers leave this type of questioning to the criminal investigators or detectives who will be assigned to the case.

    • @johnskarns1607
      @johnskarns1607 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dougboal7620 Of course, nobody wants to be in a situation whereby they take a life defending their life. Things happen fast in the streets and there are often unintentional consequences when defending yourself.
      It's only prudent to keep it simple and to the point when talking to the cops. Then defer to your lawyer.

      @@johnskarns1607 As a retired LEO, contrary to belief, investigations are not as Hollywood would portray them. When officers respond to a call, first and foremost, is securing the "scene" and help provide emergency medical assistance as in a traffic accident.. The believed subject or "suspect" involved is located. Witnesses are obtained, because their statements help provide the who, what, and when of the incident. Their statements are invaluable, because they help provide the "glue" of the facts in the case. The idea of not speaking to police officers can be such a great hinderance to the investigation. Police at the scene have a protocol to follow. If that protocol is not followed due to the "poison fruit" doctrine, then dismissal of charges can be expected.

    Watching all these cane defense videos...it seems that it may be a decent self defense piece of gear in the hands of someone your size. I would think in many cases, if a medium to small sized woman (such as my wife) or an older male/female tries to strike a criminal with a cane, they most likely won't do much damage and thus, piss them off, grabbing the cane and whacking it's owner. A big guy could do some damage and intimidate a criminal, but anyone else...not so sure about that, if we are being realistic. (and most do not have any training at all, so keep that in mind)

      I think being whacked by a good piece of hickory or even oak, regardless of the size of the wielder, would be injurious. I suggest having your wife whack you in the arm or leg with a 1" oak closet rod and let us know the results. :)
