As a recently retired Board Certified US Emergency Physician with 33 years of full-time experience & a special background in neurologic issues, and I know that by this time you all are ashore and seeing real life doctors, but I would have suggested crafting a supporting neck collar out of a tightly rolled towel and duct tape. And now that I know your history Riley, of prior serious neck problems, I strongly urge that you find a "semi-rigid C-collar" that is your size and carry it with you on future voyages. Any emergency provider, EMT, or spine surgeon will know what I'm talking about to guide you. I'm also a huge believer in Murphy's Law. Having that C-collar on board will mean you will never need it! Hats off to both of you about how you both handled this. I've been watching for this episode to show up with my heart almost in my throat thinking about all that could be going on. Emergency physicians like me know well how quickly our lives can change like a snap of your fingers.
Sailing La Vagabonde - I just realized that in the photo of you in the Brazil hospital you are wearing a semi-rigid C-collar, although there are more comfortable versions than what they gave you. Truly soft collars (just molded pieces of foam wrapped in cloth with a Velcro closure) aren’t good enough support, although I guess better than nothing. (Soft collars are those thick white collars you sometimes see people walking around wearing.). And you don’t want to know what a fully rigid collar is like, and that’s hospital only. Good luck.
Correct me if I'm wrong docs, but it seems like you've got a stinger (stretched out your arm nerves too far). Did you fall with your head going sideways? No way to tell without an xray (to exclude a fracture) but based on your recovery speed and your symptoms. Sounds like a stinger.
Runz W Sizzzors as a real nurse, i am curious, if the roles had been reversed and elayna was injured during an domestic argument, would you (in the er) have considered this a reportable domestic violence event(based on the narritive).?
25 years Army Special Forces Wilderness Paramedic: Listen to the Doc. Best possible advice. In addition, Riley, you should for the rest of your life be doing some very specific physical therapy exercises and stretches designed to strengthen your neck muscles. Exercises selected with consideration for your specific injury history and modified anatomy. Not just to regain function but to make those neck muscles strong as a bull's, one never knows what will happen next or when but a strong neck is your best safeguard. Professional American football players, rugby players, wrestlers as well as certain types of soldiers who wear heavy equipment-laden helmets know their necks are very vulnerable and work hard to build them up. You can and should do the same. No fancy gym needed, a towel and a little rubber tubing and a small sandbag weight can work wonders right there on the boat. Good luck buddy!
I'm addicted to this channel. Every time I get on youtube and there is not a new video up, it's a little depressing. You two are beautiful people and I appreciate everything you put on here. Thank you
"I wish I could have every single person in the world, on my boat"....what an awesome heart the both of you have. Elena, yours for the intense and sweet caring you have for Riley and Riley, for your wish for all of us to be there with you. The sharing of your adventures and disappointments is a valuable gift. I am grateful :)
It's so hard to find good women like her today. So many are ruined by feminism and identity politics. When you find a good one, you've got to be very very thankful.
Hi Riley know how you feel I’ve had 4 pretty big spine ops one 7 hours slipped sat on my arse all my disc’s went upward stopped at my neck 3 just exploded and let their contents out I’ve got plates cow bone part of my hip and 4000$us of Sergei bone had to have my hip replaced as well, since sat my captain ticket owned game charter boat, now I’m watching you guys very good plus others about to buy a cat 33ft built for ocean cruising done about 50000NM can’t wait wish I’d done it sooner like you I just be careful.Take care Tony
You two are such a great couple, but in this episode I really see your realness and vulnerability...and you both wear it well. I recently lost my wife and best friend. We were like you two, real and loving and adventurous. So let me remind you that in this world where things can change so fast, remember always how lucky you are to have such a true love and treat each other with special kindness.
I understand exactly what you are talking about. I have also lost that kind of love. It is rare and special. Treating each other with kindness, respect, through good and bad times, is so important.
I have been missing your channel for the 18 months as I have been in Antarctica. I see you guy have a new boat......I have lots of catching up to do...stay safe and keep up the good work...much love
Hey. It looked like reliving that past experience and describing it was really hard Reily. You're a brave man. And Elayna, you're too gorgeous for words. So kind and caring. Thanks for the video. I treasure them.
I have a woman like that. I nearly broke her heart when I had a dissected carotid artery and lost my entire left side for a while. She cried for me. I couldn’t. Riley, It really hit me when you were saying “I’m sorry” like that, and I was really pulled back into my own experiences with injury and loving how awesome but broken hearted my wife was. Both of you showed us how much you love each other. Be careful. Get a neck brace like Brian wrote.
I got a huge sense of relief seeing the pfd clipped in to a jackline. Please, a little more of that. Those tiller seats look precarious, and when one of you is asleep and the other on watch, I'D loose less sleep if the other were clipped onto the boat.
Riley, I’m from Brazil and recent to the channel. By now exactly how you felt. I experienced the same thing some time ago. The same feeling in the arms, the complete loss of movement and the position of the hands. Just watching you show the hands brought all the memories back and a lot of tears. In my case it happened to both arms and legs due to a disk hernia (c5 - c6) that seriously compressed my spinal cord. Everything fine now after a year recovering. What a coincidence! Love your channel trying to catch up with all episodes. Any plans of passing again through Brazil? All the best to you, Elayna, Lenny and the one on the way! “Abraços” from Brazil!
I binge watched and now I have sea legs and I'm dreaming about life on the boat everytime I close me eyes!! I might have to give it a rest a while. I don't believe I've missed any. You two make the best videos.
Thank you for documenting this as I’m sure it was difficult. My thoughts are with you. So glad to see Riley is up and moving around. Safe travels and a speedy recovery. I love your channel!
The amount of times if just laid in my binge watching your videos is insane I found out about your channel two years ago and I’ve loved it ever since, I got my brother hooked on your videos, you are a true inspiration, I really want to do what you do you two are great
Special times on the yacht....with all your experiences this will always stand out. There will be the haunting fear echoes from the accident but coupled with that will be the sweetness of that perfect afternoon. I think the statement you made about wishing you could bring everyone on board to share the feeling of staring at that horizon speaks to the depth of your passion for life at sea aboard a sailing vessel. Of course there are moments when it’s difficult, frightening or even dangerous, but all of it is worth the effort and calculated risk for those hours when the entire world consists of nothing but the two of you, the wind, the waves, the sky above and a clear horizon.
Been waiting for this all week! Glad to see everything is ok'ish. As always wishing you both the very best! I'm not going to say great Vlog, cos they are always great Vlogs :)
I’m so addicted to this channel. This has been my refuge every time I take a break from studying. Haha big exam coming in 2 weeks and here I am! You guys make me calm down ❤️ MORE POWAAAR! Hi from the islands of the Philippines!!
You guys scared the shit out of me. I’m glad to see Riley feeling better and both of you feeling better emotionally. I can’t tell you how much it hurt my heart to see both of you cry, but seeing you recover well put my heart at ease. Thank you for what you guys do. For now, you guys are the closest thing to my dream of sailing the world with someone I love and losing you guys would be devastating because you guys are like a the spitting image of what I wish my life could be like. I know that your lives are also filled with hardship like what was shown in this video, but if I could enjoy just a fraction of the freedom and happiness I see written all over your faces every video for even a moment, it would be worth a thousand trials and tribulations. Never stop enjoying life to the fullest and bringing us along because for most of us, the life you guys lead is but a dream across the distant horizon. The same horizon you both cross in every video you post. I love you guys as if I knew you so please, stay safe.
Its awesome to see not only how much you two have grown as a couple but also how you work together as one unit which is so rarely seen in todays day and age! I continue to enjoy your journey and hope sometime soon you make your way to San Francisco!
Currently going through C6/7 issues and know the exact feeling in the arm. Changes your life and can't help but be emotional seeing someone else dealing with it too. Glad you're okay mate.
Can’t imagine the fear having this happen at sea far away from help. I broke my back a few years ago and my legs went paralyzed. Very lucky to be near great surgeons. Every couple years depending on how stupid I am being I get the same scare of re injury and thank god when it passes with no damage
I don't think I have ever been worried about someone I don't know before. I am glad you are feeling better and hope everything turns out great. I am glad to see your spirits are up. Thank you for taking me on these adventures with you guys. Happy sailing LaVegabonde.
Didn't matter last week that your posting made it appear things would be ok. I sat here in my home sick to my stomach watching you go through it. You kept us involved in your life during a crisis. You care about us like we care about you. Thank you.
Riley and Elayna, I have watched all your episodes and enjoy watching you both, you're so funny and your love is plain to see, I sincerely wish you all the best with your injury, lets hope you're back to your normal self soon mate 🙏🏽
I am so glad that I didn't watch this until a year later, and I know you guys are OK!! I'm not sure I have ever been emotionaly impacted by a TH-cam video, the way I have by this one!! I know that terrifying feeling, when someone you love, so much gets hurt!!
I’m sorry this happened guys. I can’t even imagine the terror you two must’ve felt when this happened. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. A moment with such raw emotion and compassion from Elayna was very moving. What you two have is very special and must be treasured. Love you guys. Sending good vibes.
From Sad concerned start to everything on the Mend with HUUUGE following Sea's and some wisdom from R&E's glad this episode of your lives turned out great in this one guys. Power on Riley and Elay! cheers Steve
Oh my God I'm glad ya all made it out of that one. Sometimes I play your videos to not only hear your stories but also to hear the sea. Very comforting.
Even though I’m fairly certain (from your Insta posts) all is well at this point, it was worrying to watch. Reoccurring health issues like that are always in the back of the mind somewhere. I can relate with recalling symptoms and thinking the worst. I’ve had a few serious hospital stays, and when those similar feelings and sensations strike, it’s awful and terrifying to think you might be going back to a very tough time. Riley you’re lucky to have an absolute boss by your side, ready to take action and get shit done at the first sign of trouble.
Hi guys, I don't comment that often but I have to say that was one of the most moving down to earth, real , heartwarming videos you've done. Rileys humour in the face of adversity is awsome. The reality of the fragility of life shows clearly on both your faces. The sailing world wishes you a speedy recovery. Be careful. All the Best,Bud.
This was heartbreaking. Trust me I know that feeling, I have it permanently in my left arm and it's starting in my right now. Pins and needles numb and it's constant. It's just terrible, my heart truly goes out. Oh wow that hand position just got me, I always sit on my hand or have it curled up like next to my side. You are so blessed to have each other and your health you have no idea and it's all that matters. Once the shit health becomes something permanent in your life everything is put in it's place and you realize good health is number one in life and it's just something you can't grasp until you've experienced perfect health then just lost it. Like everything else in life is fixable or doable with good health and I think it's taken for granted and I was guilty of that and could never have grasped it until I got sick myself. Happy to see you were ok and all is well. Wow I've gotten to the part at the window and now I'm crying because that's me, that's my everyday, wow I try to just normalize it now since it's been years of this but that released a shit load of emotions I hold in everyday, wow powerful hard stuff for me to watch today and I'm sure scary as hell to experience this once and recover, because I know what it would mean to me to be whole again even if for just a little while, and then feel it somewhat happen again. Man my heart just went out because I just know and understand.
Hi guys Ive been sailing for 30+ years and just found your blog a few days ago during a sail in Thailand. I am really enjoying it. Thank you. I just watched episode 136 where Riley asked if we liked his production. I definitely love Elaina's skill and video production, but as a captain, the reason I have been captivated by your videos is that I also like Riley's description of his decision making, weather, sail setting, anchoring, etc. Please keep it up. You guys are amazing
It's makes you think that when you go offshore you should have one of the EMS neck braces on board to help immobilise the neck so that no more damage is done when the slightest move might seriously damage the spinal cord.
Such a horrific story from Riley but the support you give each other is truly amazing. As we all now it is a very bad feeling when you have a life changing accident and then a similar feeling happens later on in life. I truly feel that both of you will get through this together. On a happier aspect such an amazing vlog as always.
"Things can go from really good to really bad really fast." Can't remember where I heard that, but it is incredible how quickly that can happen. A friend of mine was meeting with another very close friend. They hadn't seen each other in many years and were both excited to get together. My friend's friend called her from across the street, they waved and with a huge smile on her face she stepped into the street without looking. Less than a second later she was dead.
I generally just watch the videos because they just are a fun boating travel blog, but the last few videos show how REAL shit can get. thanks for sharing this crazy scary time, it makes us really appreciate the good times
Great episode guys! Elayna, it's great hearing/seeing you play. I'm sure that soothed Riley a bit, and brought positive vibes on board! ✨ I'm happy that by the end of the episode you guys were smiling and enjoying the peace and solemnity of the crossing. I can't wait for the next episode! 🤙❤️⛵️
Thanks guys. I love keeping up with you. This episode showed us two people in love from different angels... priceless moments. Hope you're having a ball wherever you are right now!
Riley watching Elayna sing is everything.. ❤️❤️ you two are such a beautiful couple. Even more so now that little Lenny is on board. God bless & safe travels!
I just discovered this channel and it is amazing. I have NEVER seen the ocean in real life or been to a beach. I'm 37 years old an live in Nashville, TN. Seeing these videos makes me want to go on a trip on a boat like this an relax.
I'm 56 years old it happened to me in 2000 and to see four and five had to be fused together broke my neck I know the feeling now my spine is collapsing on itself got to give it to you for doing what you're doing sailing all over the place I wish I was able to do that I was 40 years old when mine happens nothing you can do about it but enjoy the times you got now I probably should be in a wheelchair but I refuse the call it quits I don't move around much anymore cuz of the pain so enjoy what you got left and I hope it's not too serious but just remember some of us out there could never do what you have been able to do you're very lucky
Joseph Inbody I feel for you Joe. Broke my neck in a car accident at 20. At 40 woke up in a hotel room in the middle of the night unable to move. Unfused vertebrae had gone bad. It's been 17 years of getting worse by the month. Now virtually bed ridden unable to walk without assistance and pain is 24x7 and mind numbing. Would live to sail again but will never happen.
My heart goes out to both of you both. I was in a serious car accident- had to learn to walk again at age 16 so can relate. Then at age forty I became ill and never recovered. I'm 60 now and still ill. Health is one of those things we aren't grateful for until we lose it.
Angela Siegfried so true Angela mine keeps getting worse and I'm only 56 years old I had a good run till I hit 40 once I had 40 my whole world changed I lost a wife I lost the home I lost everything and that's why I was telling Riley do it as long as you can if you love something that much it's better to die doing it then not to have done it at all cuz life is too short
Thank you, Bob. Now, thanks to the internet I live my life vicariously through generous and courageous spirits such as Elayna and Riley. How did we manage before there was the internet? Though it's bittersweet, no? Joseph, I agree. "I'm glad I did it when I could!" I always say. I also lost my home to medical bills. It's crazy. People often don't realize just how fast life can change. Sometimes when I listen to people making long term plans I silently wonder if they will ever see them materialize. Life was a lot different when we were growing up. I love seeing young people do things we could only dream about doing when we were their age. Don't give up hope.
It's easy to share the good times with us, but it takes immeasurable amounts of courage to bare your emotions for the whole world to see when you are in your darkest moments. Thank you. You have my undying respect. It is comforting to know there is a time lag, and that all has turned out as well as can be.
I’ve been following your vlogs for quite a few years and the thought that either of you getting hurt scares the bejaysus out of me, it’s funny because I’m a complete stranger you both but you’re like family to me because I feel I know you so well, be safe
Wow thanks for FINALLY catching us up on this. Way to power on but please be safe. BTW if not before, the cat is out of the bag with Riley's Mom and Dad. Love the hdro-generator commentary. Another thing I need to learn about.
I hope you're neck feels better, thanks for all the wonderful Vlogs to give us something to watch over the cold winters. Eagerly awaiting the next video.
It's hard to see anyone suffer an injury. I hope all is well and a speedy recovery is in the cards. You both compliment each very well. This is a favourite channel of mine. Thank you for your content it's informative and entertaining.
In a way you ARE bringing everyone along with you to see the view through the videos. I know we certainly appreciate it so thank you both so much! Glad that things are kind-of OK with Riley. I hope that the X-Ray looks good. Also, I'm still getting used to you guys saying you're going like 18 knots... Those speeds still sound unreal to me but I can definitely see how the speed and comfort of the boat played a role in the decision to move forward. Do you think you might have continued on if you were back on the Beneteau?
It actually makes sense that he had an injury that put his life in perspective. I always wondered what it was that would make a 30 year old guy cut ties and really take hold of life.
this video, despite the situation, is my absolute favorite. this episode, after about 5-7 minutes into it, made me feel so peaceful. i love what you guys are doing and you inspire me every day. this is why we are alive.
After watching your videos since the last Atlantic crossing, I feel I can speak for all when I say that: when you laugh - we laugh, and when you cry - we cry. Your strength is amazing and inspiring. Hope to see you on the seas someday. Much love from Sailing Vessel The Animas
I'm finding it quite difficult to comment of this video, without resorting to cliche superlatives, but this truly shows (me at least) the depth of your life/ sailing experience and calmness in a very real crisis. You are an inspiration and example to all who watch you, both in how you relate to each other and your adventurous/ free spirits. Keep on keepin' on! ;-)
Loving the return to reality trend you guys are on these days. There was a bit of a departure right after you got this boat but chuck it off to learning curve experience and add it to the bag of been there done that know how. You guys are the real deal pioneers in what is known as user generated content media which is, in my opinion the future of entertainment. What you are doing is the next natural step in reality “tv” industry and you are both spearheading this type of entertainment. Well done and wishing you lots of success. Not that you need it. Keep doing what you’re doing, it’s the right thing. Fast healing Riley! Oh, and that staring into the wake or horizon, it’s as mesmerizing as watching a campfire, just simple magic for the psyche Cheers.
We all learn to live with limitations. It's soooo fun to see people like you get creative and turn limitations into trumph. You press me to keep striving towards my goals and to not give up. Rock on!!
+Bradley Hh Med student as well so to be taken with a grain of salt but afaik and as Riley rightfully pointed out there is no knowing of whether C6 is dislocated or fractured at this point. From what he describes all you can assume is a pinged/stretched/irritated portion of the plexus brachialis while, in that situation, there isn't even a way to tell whether that has occured at the Radices or more distal portions like Trunci. Just my thoughts without any clinical experience in the field, don't want to sound smart and would love to be corrected.
Wow, a difficult situation and it would put a damper on the crossing. All us blue water cruisers are subject to injury on a rolling, heaving boat...... and I've seen a few, broken toes, broken fingers, bad cuts and a dislocated back. Please people, realize this is an adventure. And people who do this are stepping out of the comfort zone.
Sails, When one is young and healthy, one can throw all kinds of hardships at his own body, and his body will take it, silently most of time. The body gets over the hardships and heals. But your body does not forget and your body records everything. Then one day, you get over 50, and that's when your body decided to take his revenge by making pay back for all you made him go through. I would hate to be in our heroe's shoes when he turns 50.
Good story telling friends. I am sitting here on my boat in San Diego, getting ready to do yet more boat work, and I am so happy to see you have a moderate reprieve from the challenges of the human machine. Life is like that. It took burning my house down to make me realize I needed to be married. Actually, my house burning down made me discover my life long mate. If your interested, let me know and I will share the story. Any how I proposed on the boat (the one I am on right now) and it been nothing but fun for 10 years. I think this challenge is the "Big Guy" telling you what should be done next. It's kind of obvious to me. keep sailing Mate!
Glad to see you guys are ok. Fingers crossed for the xrays and the autopilot and a safe and worry free trip to land. You tube has not been the same. Thank you so much for keeping us all updated as I'm sure a few of us have been thinking of you and praying that all is well.
What a relief to see Riely recovering .I was in Elaina's shoes once. I was 11years old and Dad stepped up on main mast cleat ,he slipped to cause a gash in calf of his leg. We were in the gulf of St. Lawrence on board our 40ft trimaran,Seashells. I sailed all night and in the morning did a perfect docking at Cap Chat. He promptly got to hospital for stitches.
I'm sure as you already know Antigua has a very Large Medical University on Island. You should get some great care there. I leave in the morning to Antigua. Will be sailing my new boat home soon from Jolly Harbor.
I know exactly what went through your head. I broke a Vertebrae two years ago as I fell off a ladder. I had a pain going through my body that I have never had before. But as I am a fighter I ignored the pain to see if I could move and fell everything. I even drove to the hospital after on my own where they told my that I was very very lucky. I hope for us that we allways stand tall! I love you two!
Hi Riley and Elayna. I really enjoy watching your channel, so glad that Riley is looking better. It was lovely to watch this episode; you've captured that something special/magical you two share when on the boat alone and dealing with the trials together. For me seeing you in those moments where its clear that you are connecting with the beauty and wonderment of your surroundings is what has kept me always coming back to watch more of your channel. Elayna you capture those moments wonderfully without words in your filming. You are both very down to earth, genuine people and it's inspiring to follow you. I can understand that sharing this much of yourselves and your life could leave you wanting to hold onto as much personal information as humanly possible; I've never commented before but have in the past viewed some very hurtful and ignorant comments from folk and over time watching your channel can see it has had an effect on you guys however small. It also seems it must be a ton of work filming content, editing, meeting patrons and generally keeping up - so please understand that I say this with a huge amount of respect and admiration for you both: I miss the videos of you diving, with the worlds reefs under such threat your simply filming what you see brings people into awareness and hopefully a growing love and concern for our environment. Even if you don't want to go down that route I implore you.. have something to say, however subtle. You have so many followers and I know you are both very intelligent. It doesn't matter if you don't have formal education in the area, your opinion and views do matter - obviously, because so many enjoy listing and watching your channel. Yours Sincerely, forever your loyal subscriber - Kiwi.
Please don't ever "cliff hanger" us like this again. I can see the terror in your eyes and the gratitude you have for being able to see the world from Captains chair. Take care mate!
So many must think of you both as heroes! You've got to know, people got your back... Personally, you guys give us hope, which truly has no price. We love you. Take it easy Riley!!!
People don't think about those kinds of things and the enormous risk potential when we're young and carefree. But there's a reason why not very many people "live" on the sea like this... the "real world" is a beautiful, cruel, breath-taking, and horror-filled place to live.
This has been one of those videos I can totally relate to the shear terror of any sort of reinjury! I have a 4 stage lower back fusion from an accident I had in 2008. Those that have never had a broken back think they can sympathize but have no clue the range of pain and emotions it glues in your memory for LIFE. With that being said. I'm glad you guys didn't turn back, but I'm glad you are on a vessel that offers relative comfort and moving forward with caution. Never give up brother! You both will be very much in my thoughts till you get to the islands!
Intensley emotional begging to this Video. Many were shedding tears along with you. Great that you were able to carry on and recover and still bring out the bring beauty in what you are both doing. Too envious for words here, even though I am on Holiday near the Gold coast of Australia, escaping the cold and snowy Canada for a few weeks

Bobby Davis us tooo Ahaha !!! 🤘🏼
The amount of love that he has for her is extremely encouraging! You can see it in his eyes when she is singing.
It was nice to see Riley finally wear a harness on the boat. I wish he'd do it more. Always better to be safe than sorry, even when so far out at sea.
The woman is a true and true Angel.
God bless her heart for being the way she is.
Antonio, the 18 wheeler
"True and true"? Do you even English bro?
I caught myself crying and saying what a strong couple. U can tell they love each other so much ❤️
It's so hard to find good women like her today. So many are ruined by feminism and identity politics. When you find a good one, you've got to be very very thankful.

Hey Jessica. How are u doin hun? I hope that you are feeling better now.
I'm watching this 2 years later and it still upset me so much watching the opening footage. What a scare. So glad you're okay! So very glad.
I second the harness and jackline. I've sailed long enough to know better. You will never get a do over.
As was tragically experienced in the Volvo Ocean Race, R.I.P. John Fisher.
Riley,
I’m from Brazil and recent to the channel.
Positive mental attitude...no matter what
The amount of times if just laid in my binge watching your videos is insane I found out about your channel two years ago and I’ve loved it ever since, I got my brother hooked on your videos, you are a true inspiration, I really want to do what you do you two are great
FullBlown yeah, just a tad away from it
Special times on the yacht....with all your experiences this will always stand out.
Riley's a legend, hope you are OK skipper! Get yourself in for an MRI scan once on shore!
Been waiting for this all week! Glad to see everything is ok'ish. As always wishing you both the very best! I'm not going to say great Vlog, cos they are always great Vlogs :)
Praying for Riley!
Broke C1,C2 in '07. I know your scare. Be safe and I pray it's very easy to move forward.
Man good job catching Riley being vulnerable. Tugged on my heart strings for real 💚🖤❤️
You are both amazing humans!!! Thank you for bringing us along on ur journeys. Safe travels
Its awesome to see not only how much you two have grown as a couple but also how you work together as one unit which is so rarely seen in todays day and age! I continue to enjoy your journey and hope sometime soon you make your way to San Francisco!
I also wish you could have all of us on your boat. The perfect life. I am so envious. But being disabled I can live through you all.
Currently going through C6/7 issues and know the exact feeling in the arm. Changes your life and can't help but be emotional seeing someone else dealing with it too. Glad you're okay mate.
I understand your concern Riley. I broke my back in 3 places in o4 .
BTW, I love your open ocean sailing footage. Thanks.
Your going to make it! And it will have some major impact on how you look at and live the rest of your life; we will keep you in our prayers.
Can’t imagine the fear having this happen at sea far away from help. I broke my back a few years ago and my legs went paralyzed. Very lucky to be near great surgeons. Every couple years depending on how stupid I am being I get the same scare of re injury and thank god when it passes with no damage
How very scary! I'm glad your OK!
You two are honestly incredible.
Cried right along with you both. And the way Rylie looked at you while you were signing made me cry all over again! 💕
Kelly Peschel it’s crazy how much they love each other 💕
I don't think I have ever been worried about someone I don't know before. I am glad you are feeling better and hope everything turns out great. I am glad to see your spirits are up. Thank you for taking me on these adventures with you guys. Happy sailing LaVegabonde.
My heart goes out to you two.
Didn't matter last week that your posting made it appear things would be ok. I sat here in my home sick to my stomach watching you go through it. You kept us involved in your life during a crisis. You care about us like we care about you. Thank you.
Beautiful cover of Ultraviolence Elayna, sending the absolute best wishes to you guys in this worrisome time 🙏🏽
Riley and Elayna, I have watched all your episodes and enjoy watching you both, you're so funny and your love is plain to see, I sincerely wish you all the best with your injury, lets hope you're back to your normal self soon mate 🙏🏽
I am so glad that I didn't watch this until a year later, and I know you guys are OK!! I'm not sure I have ever been emotionaly impacted by a TH-cam video, the way I have by this one!! I know that terrifying feeling, when someone you love, so much gets hurt!!
I have been binging episodes for hours!!! Y’alls (that is Georgia slang for “you all”) love for each other is so special! ❤️❤️
Hi guys
Ive been sailing for 30+ years and just found your blog a few days ago during a sail in Thailand.
Mfanawemkosi Fakudze. Working in an ER no one keeps them on. They are SO uncomfortable.
The Vagabonds are endurance artists of a sort. Nobody does physical therapy either am I right? Riley can dedicate himself, hes proven that much!
Such a horrific story from Riley but the support you give each other is truly amazing. As we all now it is a very bad feeling when you have a life changing accident and then a similar feeling happens later on in life. I truly feel that both of you will get through this together. On a happier aspect such an amazing vlog as always.
"Things can go from really good to really bad really fast."
Can't remember where I heard that, but it is incredible how quickly that can happen. A friend of mine was meeting with another very close friend. They hadn't seen each other in many years and were both excited to get together.
My friend's friend called her from across the street, they waved and with a huge smile on her face she stepped into the street without looking. Less than a second later she was dead.
Tragic 💔
You as well Angela. We just have to hang in there. Best wishes.
Love you guys. I know this is an old post, but it tore my heart to see you both upset, and scared. May you always be safe. Beautiful, genuine people.
Wow hope all is well with your neck. Love the channel prayers mate.
It's easy to share the good times with us, but it takes immeasurable amounts of courage to bare your emotions for the whole world to see when you are in your darkest moments. Thank you. You have my undying respect. It is comforting to know there is a time lag, and that all has turned out as well as can be.
I feel for you guys , well wishes from the vanlife side of TH-cam
I’ve been following your vlogs for quite a few years and the thought that either of you getting hurt scares the bejaysus out of me, it’s funny because I’m a complete stranger you both but you’re like family to me because I feel I know you so well, be safe
Whew ... Thank God you are Ok ! keep those smiles coming .
I very much wish and hope you will get the right attention as soon as possible. Wishing you both all the best. David
Scary! Very, very glad things are OK. No more arguing, you guys! :)
Wow thanks for FINALLY catching us up on this. Way to power on but please be safe. BTW if not before, the cat is out of the bag with Riley's Mom and Dad. Love the hdro-generator commentary. Another thing I need to learn about.
Man, she loves you bro
I hope you're neck feels better, thanks for all the wonderful Vlogs to give us something to watch over the cold winters. Eagerly awaiting the next video.
STAY STRONG!
Probably ok to carry on with the weather as it was.... there are places on a keeler where one can be comfortable, but not like the cat no...
Learning the Lines i
Glad to see that Riley is doing better, Helena you are doing an excellent job at overseeing things. Can't wait for the next video.
It actually makes sense that he had an injury that put his life in perspective. I always wondered what it was that would make a 30 year old guy cut ties and really take hold of life.
You should look into SAM splints. They are light weight moldable aluminum. When molded the becone very strong. Can splint arms, legs and even necks
this video, despite the situation, is my absolute favorite. this episode, after about 5-7 minutes into it, made me feel so peaceful. i love what you guys are doing and you inspire me every day. this is why we are alive.
You guys are so fucking great, keep on rockin' and hopefully Riley will recover 100%
Keep on keepin' on! ;-)
Same Same here, but you said it, thanks
Great video, thank you very much for sharing this with us.
We all learn to live with limitations. It's soooo fun to see people like you get creative and turn limitations into trumph. You press me to keep striving towards my goals and to not give up. Rock on!!
I AM a spinal surgeon and I would love to travel with you on your boat... Glad you are ok
Dr. Paul Houle is it possible it could be another c6 dislocation I'm a med student atm
A bottle of corona fixes any neck problem doesn't it?
talk about house calls.
LOL!
Glad to see you are up and moving around. Not out of the woods yet but not as bad as it could have been. Can't wait for the next vid.
Very true Sails! Rule 1 of sailing should be to look after yourself.

Its an amazing feeling to have a beautiful woman; worry, love, and care for you as your lady does..
God bless you both, best wishes from Texas
You sound like a prick. Read your comment and see what kind of tone it conveys
InfiniteLoop You’re a fucking idiot
What a relief to see Riely recovering .I was in Elaina's shoes once. I was 11years old and Dad stepped up on main mast cleat ,he slipped to cause a gash in calf of his leg. We were in the gulf of St. Lawrence on board our 40ft trimaran,Seashells. I sailed all night and in the morning did a perfect docking at Cap Chat. He promptly got to hospital for stitches.
I'm sure as you already know Antigua has a very Large Medical University on Island. You should get some great care there. I leave in the morning to Antigua. Will be sailing my new boat home soon from Jolly Harbor.
lobsternutz Not ALL the Caribbean islands have that problem with medical education. Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Cuba have GREAT med schools

I love you two!
life is fragile, LOVE is the GREATEST, no time for anything else.............
I've never waited nervously for a TH-cam video before, but this outcome was definitely worth the wait! Love you guys!
I know the situation has been long resolved, but good luck to you two!
With just two people on boat you shouldn’t go on deck without safety lines attached to your body. Be Safe. Good Luck, 👍 Vinny 🇺🇸
You both will be very much in my thoughts till you get to the islands!
tbh Hollywood level cliffhanging and editing
Intensley emotional begging to this Video. Many were shedding tears along with you. Great that you were able to carry on and recover and still bring out the bring beauty in what you are both doing. Too envious for words here, even though I am on Holiday near the Gold coast of Australia, escaping the cold and snowy Canada for a few weeks
You guys will make it through, stay strong. .."Yeshua / Jesus is the way "
Praying for good results. And a speedyrecovery. Big hugs to you both. Fair winds.
