@@mitchellslate1249 here are all eight of the schools of magic in dnd as said by the players handbook, modified to remove the needless moralization of animating the dead: Abjuration spells are protective in nature, though some of them have aggressive uses. They create magical barriers, negate harmful effects, harm trespassers, or banish creatures to other planes of existence. Conjuration spells involve the transportation of objects and creatures from one location to another. Some spells summon creatures or objects to the caster's side, whereas others allow the caster to teleport to another location. Some conjurations create objects or effects out of nothing. Divination spells reveal information, whether in the form of secrets long forgotten, glimpses of the future, the locations of hidden things, the truth behind illusions, or visions of distant people or places. Enchantment spells affect the minds of others, influencing or controlling their behavior. Such spells can make enemies see the caster as a friend, force creatures to take a course of action, or even control another creature like a puppet. Evocation spells manipulate magical energy to produce a desired effect. Some call up blasts of fire or lightning. Others channel positive energy to heal wounds. Illusion spells deceive the senses or minds of others. They cause people to see things that are not there, to miss things that are there, to hear phantom noises, or to remember things that never happened. Some illusions create phantom images that any creature can see, but the most insidious illusions plant an image directly in the mind of a creature. Necromancy spells manipulate the energies of life and death. Such spells can grant an extra reserve of life force, drain the life energy from another creature, create the undead, or even bring the dead back to life. Transmutation spells change the properties of a creature, object, or environment. They might turn an enemy into a harmless creature, bolster the strength of an ally, make an object move at the caster's command, or enhance a creature's innate healing abilities to rapidly recover from injury.

I actually love this, not only because it's really cool but also because you stopped where you did. It does what it does. It's not broken or a "get out of any situation" spell. In most fights it won't even be useful, but it's cool, and does something unique that it makes sense for a spell to do.
Why is the spell Enchantment? Is the effect not real, but in their mind? Shouldn't it be Transmutation because it effects and changes physical objects?
The spell enchants the magical items, not the player character. Also, the magic of the spell did not cause any physical change to the magical items, thus it would not fall under the heading of Transmutation. Also, the spell effect (i.e., magical items being affected in ways outside the expected norm) can be noticed by other creatures, so it is not just in the target creature's mind. (A purely mental effect would fall into the school of Illusion/Phantasm.)
@@Oddmanoutre You are incorrect on how the schools of magic are defined. As per the PHB Page 203: "Enchantment spells affect the minds of others, influencing or controlling their behavior. Such spells can make enemies see the caster as a friend, force creatures to take a course of action, or even control another creature as a puppet." Transmutation is the school of changing the physical properties of an object, and since he said "the objects rapidly change in weight" that is a Transmutation effect, unless of course the effect is ACTUALLY the person THINKS they do and acts accordingly. So actually yes, Transmutation would be correct. Illusion deceives the senses which could apply to this, but purely mental effects DO NOT immediately fall under Illusion as per the Enchantment descriptions from above. So please, don't comment on things you clearly don't know about.

I am a long time homebrew (but mostly spellbrewing haha) fanatic, and I have to say this spell is absolutely excellent! Very well flavored and fun ans behaves more like how I would expect a hex to work than Hex does. Making it warlock only neatly restricts how many times it can be cast in a battle as well. Nice job!
Warlocks should have more spells that play with specific weird parts of how the game works. Like this spell is perfect for the simple straight purpose of playing against magic items, or hell, see what happens if you hit a magical construct with it. That'd be funky. They should have more spells that invite the DM to sit back and ask,"Yeah, how WOULD that work?"
I'm running a 5 person group, and we don't even have a Warlock (anymore). Believe me, there's enough of that question already. Last week they wanted to lodge some kayaks in an underground stream, lay something flat on them and a Portable Hole on that (they have an extra deep one, they slept in it once already), and sleep in there in the middle of the enemy stronghold. I don't need the game questioning itself, my players are doing that enough. Joking aside, YES, I'm entirely with you on that :D
@@falfires Sleeping in a portable hole? That sounds ripe for DM fun, lol. Just have a mook pick it up and fold it closed...10 minutes to get out into an obvious ambush or start suffocating? @@falfires Don't think you can breathe in a portable hole. I think you get 10 minutes of survival before you suffocate. If you've allowed them to get a pretty tricked out portable hole though, you could look into the other issue of extra dimensional space: Extra dimensional threats curious of creatures non native to their realm. Portable holes are gates to the Astral Plane, there are things in the Astral Plane.
I think in 5e there needed to be more meaningfull diferences in spells for example we dont need a bunch of worse magic missles however all classes should have had 5 times the ammount of utility spells like this one. Also they should have made 5e to go to level 30 and returned the spell slots Lv 10 - 12 as that whould have made some uterly unique and powerful spells for each class.
I will be implementing it at my table with a few adjustments. I love this idea so much and it adds something I think is missing. Target one magic item. For every spell slot above 2nd you can target an additional magic item. Any additional magic items you target can be the same or another creature. I would still have it very in affect basted on the type of equipment slot the magic item was used for. This would work great with arcana checks (seeing how many magic items might be present, or for those characters that can use detect magic via spell slots, uses per day or at will.)
Zee, I have so much respect for your and your videos. I'm going to approve this spell for all my campaigns. I agree we need more only warlock only spells. To the crying sorcerers, you have a large number of spells that you get to learn as you level. You do not have to find a spell scroll, take time copying the spell in your book, or chose from a small list of spells because wotc is terrified of stacking on a short rest.
I will admit bards have almost as small of a spell list, 130 by my count. I know clerics have less, but they have full access to thier lists. When I play a class, I never take a spell on a clerics list except low level healing. Let them have this spotlight.
I've always thought that there should be some kinda trade off for magic items, like a rust monster that only eats magic items, or a monster that actually resists magic damage.
@@AikenFrost RIGHT!! why are so many 5e DMs obsessed with a system where not having magic weapons means you deal half damage vs half the monsters in the book and then never hand out any magic weapons... any wonder why Artificer is so pop??

Then again, if it brings you joy, go for it 😁 Thank you for the contents regardless!!!

i really like this idea magic items are an extra sort of benefit and i can keep being fairly generous with them but maybe occasionally throw in spells like this as a surprise to overcome.
I could also see it making a lot of sense to give a spell like this to artificers, seeing how doing stuff with magic items is kinda their thing as a class.
I am just glad he got it out Friday, and the Cold Road can wait and cook for a minute. It is beautiful already and we have Five Whole Episodes, pretty long each too, and each one special and cool! But I feel you still...

Everyone is talking about how he made it Enchantment instead of Transmutation, but why is no one talking about the fact he never said the spell's components?
I always really liked these jury-rigged spellbooks. Another one for the quality video tome!

...should we be worried Bashew just turned into a sentient Vargouille before our eyes?
Only if you care...If not, cast fireball...
no.
Literally just watched the last cold road episode a second ago, thank you for keeping us all constantly entertained!
I love the idea for the spell. Warlocks do need more specific spells.
P.S. Can't wait for Cold Road, Episode 6!!!!!
If you think that, wait until you see the sorcerer spell list.
@@ivantheterrible7696 The sorcerer has a h e f t y amount more spells in their list than the warlock- and in terms of specific spells, it's relatively hard to think of Sorcerer spells that don't also make sense for the wizard. They have a massive amount of thematic overlap.
@@IllicitActivities and how is that? Sorcerers are the only class with inherent magical talent, it makes no sense for some random shmuck to be able to do everything they can ana more after studying a couple of years, or worse, by *adventuring*
@@ivantheterrible7696 Sorcerers and Wizards are both very much the 'Vanilla Arcane' casters. Directly manipulating magic with control and actual arcane power is kinda inherent to both of them- with control being slightly more the Wizard's shtick, and power being slightly more on the Sorcerer side. There's a whole lot of overlap.
@@IllicitActivities I'd say metamagic like subtle spell is more control than power, but whatever
and I say unto you:
"They seem like mini-curses."
A mini-curse is just a curse that is smaller, or on that which is smaller, is it not?

We need one of these for every arcane caster*.
*except wizard
So... just sorcerer since warlock was already done.
@@dylanenriguehuntington2908 Also artificer.
I actually love this, not only because it's really cool but also because you stopped where you did. It does what it does. It's not broken or a "get out of any situation" spell. In most fights it won't even be useful, but it's cool, and does something unique that it makes sense for a spell to do.
*Sorcerers crying in the corner keeping their chaos bolt away from everyone else *

I like it! And I like the thought of an NPC using it against the party even more. Cue the cackling!

Glad to see regular posts again man! Thanks for what you do!
@@thothrax5621 You are correct. I was thinking of the definition for Enchantment/Charm given on page 81 of the 2nd Edition AD&D PHB.
@@thothrax5621 don’t be so aggro.
Can I just take a minute to acknowledge you and your work.
I mean, the skill and passion for the subject, bro you're an inspiration. Thank you for these. They make my week every time.
Why is this enchantment instead of something like transmutation? You’re changing the physical properties of things such as weight?
My thoughts exactly!
My guess is because he is actually targeting the creature NOT the items.
As a videographer I love when I hear your background music and I’m like hey I know that! Artlist baby!
I’m just imagining a bad guy using this on the party and it would be Gawd damn devastating
Love the Idea, really useful in the right situation, plus I see a lot of out of combat shenanigans with this spell. Great stuff, keep it up and I cant wait for more!
Nobody:
Zee: *_casually rips head off of neck and leaves body behind, ascending to the clouds_*
Running a pretty humanoid and urban heavy section of a campaign right now and the party all have a good amount of magical items. This will be dope to give to a boss monster as an introduction, then have the two warlocks learn it. Thanks for the spell Zee!
That is wayyyyyy too powerful, it’s a ranged disarm and trip in one.
Exactly and it potentially can inflict multiple checks per turn if a creature is wearing armour and swinging a weapon or using a magic item.
It should be a higher level spell for sure.
Yeah. Maybe this spell is 5Th+ level
I think remove the drop items aspect (still act as interrupts) and bump up the spell level to at least 4 or 5.
@@herpderp9774 - depends on the wording. He mentioned multiple different things, but it' s not completely clear if it should do all of those things, or just one of them each turn.
There's also an argument to be made that you could accomplish a similar effect simply by using the right word with "Command"
I love this spell! Doesn't matter if it's op!
As an exhausted fan of the Warlock class, I thank you for this very fun-looking contribution. The shadows bless you in turn.
This is certainly a spell with a lot of gravitas. Also, first.
Your animation style is so cool, I love it. I watch once for the content and a second time just to admire the animation movements.
Looks like I rolled Well on my initiative.
i like the idea of this being a regular series
This spell looks like a transmutation, considering that it changes the properties of matter...
Well i'd say enchanting is the correct school as it's messing with their heads and not the item itself, else it would have to target on object within 90 feet vs creature because enchanting doesn't effect objects
Love this series where you come up with new spells! This spells flavour is so much fun!
Man imagine the pranks bards can cause with this spell...
"warlock only"
@@karlhyetravelerofworlds Yes but lore bards can get 2 spells from any spell list at level 6 and if I remember correctly at level 10 any bard can get two spells from any spell list
Nice job!
I have read too many of the D&D books too many times. He's a vargouille now.
Yet again you’ve made a work of art I can binge watch with the rest thank you you beutiful man
Warlocks should have more spells that play with specific weird parts of how the game works.
DC10 STR check isn't hard, but some of your party will likely fail it on the first try. The party comes out piecemeal into a trap...no thanks, I won't be sleeping in a portable hole, lol.
I love this. This is going into my homebrew world.
In these comments: people who don't give magic items to npcs.
I love this spell zee.
Love your work, animation, energy, and effort Zee!
"I think warlocks should get more spells"
*cries in sorcerer*
I think in 5e there needed to be more meaningfull diferences in spells for example we dont need a bunch of worse magic missles however all classes should have had 5 times the ammount of utility spells like this one. Also they should have made 5e to go to level 30 and returned the spell slots Lv 10 - 12 as that whould have made some uterly unique and powerful spells for each class.
Warlock is and will always be my favorite class, no other makes me have so much fun playing.
First
But in all seriousness, this will be great to throw to my players. This'll make'em really confused
It’s simple but affective. I like it,
*effective
I love this as a concept and might have to incorporate it into my circus campaign! I PLAN on it being fun and silly, and this fits RIGHT in!
excellent.
oh shit first?
Yep
I've always thought that there should be some kinda trade off for magic items, like a rust monster that only eats magic items, or a monster that actually resists magic damage.
are you insane???
Do you hate Fighters that much? They are already so bad as it is.
@@AikenFrost RIGHT!! why are so many 5e DMs obsessed with a system where not having magic weapons means you deal half damage vs half the monsters in the book and then never hand out any magic weapons... any wonder why Artificer is so pop??
@@GnomeGninja Absolutely. As a fan of martial classes, it is extremely frustrating. And given how D&D5e is going, it seems they purposefully want to make people stop playing non-caster classes altogether.
Its interesting to say the least. I'd be super interested in having my warlock have this as an option. Got a " you are the first magic users in this continent" campaign that may be the perfect game to test it out in. Thanks Zee for the content and contemplation.
This sounds like an awesome spell that could lead to some table turning boss battles if a minion or player somehow can snag the dropped magic item! Also, it's so nice to see someone making new stuff for warlocks in general and bonus points for creativity on this!
Yees. You revive my imagination!!! You were the reason i picked wizard and you are the reason why my dm hates and loves me. Big thqnks for the content and ideas.
This must be the spell that professors quill cast on Harry's broomstick. Quill is a confirmed warlock and voldemort is his patron.
I like the idea of these. Thank you for sharing them with us.
Now this sounds like a fun spell, as well as just the kind of eldritch shenanigans I can see a warlock getting into. Very nice.
Yes thank you very much I will be using this as soon as possible with my Fathomless Warlock
The Archmage of DnD animation has returned
Really cool idea Zee! The problem is that it's a spell, like so many others, that is heavily dependent on the GM. If you fight boss monsters who don't use magic items, then this is a waste of a spell slot and one of the few spells warlocks can know. Then again, if it brings you joy, go for it 😁 Thank you for the contents regardless!!!
I like this content alot, acts as a nice little example if I want to homebrew something
I am loving these Juryrigged Spellbook vids :)
I actually needed some new warlock spells for my homebrew campaign so thanks for a good one
Yeah thats pretty neat! useful, non lethal, pretty balanced . good stuff man.
I love all the vids and ive especially missed the animated spellbooks
This one was pretty good actually, thank you for the good hb warlock spell
I have been working on a homebrew patron whose who thing is countering powerful mages and artifacts, being basically an arbiter of magic who hates those who abuse it, so I am can guarantee I will be utilizing this spell in my campaigns In the future! Excellent idea!
This is content I love to see, you are an awesome content creator!
Damn nice animation, also that head detachment was hilarious.
Happy to see some new content here, love these videos
Suddenly the devil's pet warlock becomes the ultimate bodyguard. Absolutely love this.
I suffer from wobbling wand.
I cut fats from my diet and it helped a lot.
i really like this idea magic items are an extra sort of benefit and i can keep being fairly generous with them but maybe occasionally throw in spells like this as a surprise to overcome.
I wasn’t expecting this today and I love it!
I could also see it making a lot of sense to give a spell like this to artificers, seeing how doing stuff with magic items is kinda their thing as a class.
Oh so we're just gonna have to keep waiting ... For that next cold road chapter ... Tears.
I am just glad he got it out Friday, and the Cold Road can wait and cook for a minute. It is beautiful already and we have Five Whole Episodes, pretty long each too, and each one special and cool! But I feel you still...
The bard with bane and cunning words just became the warlock's bff
I love it! I’ll share the spell with my players and see what they think.
I cannot say how thrilled I am to have new zee content coming out
I would support a Jury-rigged Spellbook Kickstarter. Both of your spells were zany, fun, and surprisingly useful. I'd love a book full of random nonsense like that, illustrated in your art style.
I will be adding this to my campaign. I have a party that loves to find ways out of combat, or to control the battlefield.
I would love to see more of the juryrigged spellbook. This and Erratic Hammering are some of my favorite homebrews
Sounds like a nice wizzard spell
I wasn't a big fan of erratic hammering, although I loved the idea, I thought it needed some tweaking. Arcane Gravity however is amazing and I will be using it in my next campaign. Thanks!
