I forgot to mention the closing costs were 4-5% of purchase price.

Yes. And that included everything, including the creation of the corporation.

We found Ian Shaw in Playas del Coco when we were looking for a place. His contact info can be found in the description of that video here: th-cam.com/video/5_pNqP1jdYA/w-d-xo.html There are no real estate license requirements in Costa Rica, so always make sure you find one you feel comfortable with and don't just end up with the owner's brother's sister-in-law's hair stylist showing you the place. Most important thing is to make sure you always use a lawyer with any large financial transactions in Costa Rica. Always.

Thank you so much for your reply! How do you feel about living there?

We have been traveling down every month so far, it is going to be a couple of years yet before we can stay for extended times, but we love it here and have started our residency processes. Also DuoLingo :)

Do you have to learn Spanish?

No, but it helps and the attempt goes a long way with Costa Ricans in general.

Are you planning to get a Perminent Residency with this purchase? I think all you need is $150,000 Invested.

That is correct. We have used that purchase to obtain temporary residency so far.

So the whole transaction went through while you were in North America? Did you meet and hire the attorney and made an offer before you left Costa Rica? Thank you so much for all the helpful info.

We were introduced to the lawyer by our realtor after we had an accepted offer on the condo. At that point, we were back stateside and finished the rest of the process from there. Our experience leading up to the "accepted offer" can be found in our other video here: th-cam.com/video/5_pNqP1jdYA/w-d-xo.html

We have hired a property manager to help us in that regard until we move down full time. But primarily it is our home away from home.
