    Malewicz, one of the reasons why I am following you is because I see one similar quality to mine, which is nonconforming and not becoming a "sheep" that just mindlessly goes with a trend. You are like a design Neo helping designers to wake up from design matrix. I too tried to encourage people to think for themselves in many other areas in life, but its almost impossible. People are consumers, people are followers. If they are not going to follow one then they are going to follow another. So I respect you for your patience and efforts.

      I stand 100% with you. The whole sistem it's a dark pattern for the ordinary people but our colleagues can't see this, at least here in the west it's like all have a childish approach from life and this reflect on this "creative person" behavior

    The hypocrisy of designers, after decades of basically ripping off Apple's aesthetic "make it like apple", and then complaining when their designs are done the same way. The reality is, web/app design has been figured out after 25 years. Especially design meant for communication, like e-commerce, business representation, which is for selling. If we were doing some artwork, then there's more to be progressed. But no one is making a new toaster, washing machine, car even. The concept cars are impractical for mass consumption. Anyway, well said.

    • @MalewiczHype
      @MalewiczHype  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      Yes, it has been figured out (mostly) - yet somehow most designs are still pretty bad. It's a nice paradox.

    Thanks for this calm and clear explanation of what to really worry about.

    • @MalewiczHype
      @MalewiczHype  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      That didn't change of course - AI is making MOST people lazy. And let's say that MAYBE (at some point) it will help some really good people get faster / better but right now it's marginal because of low AI quality (in general). So generally we're going towards low-quality, low-effort work for a while - but it's already been here. Good clients get a good designer, clients without a budget go for automation and templates.

  • @finlayb

    The energy required is something not a lot of people are talking about. Cloud servers are already a huge energy drain and one of the top greenhouse gas producers. Add all the energy production needed for AI and even if we got rid of every car in the world, we would be accelerating global warming. I think it's great to experiment with new technology, but at the end of the day, the only way to sustain it is to slow down.

Honestly, I have some security concerns about Figma in general and I don’t like the user experience. After learning that the designers at Apple use Sketch I am returning to Sketch.

    We, the designers who keep designing because the love of the craft and the problem solving brain activity, are in the extinction phase. This tools, like any other tool, are trying to build this insane need for the user to depend on them, but this is only effective if you're not a "craft lover" . Figma will become the canvas for replacing elements after prompting the design solution. We, the old school ones, will keep pushing the limits of creations besides any tool or any automation.

    Who says 75% is not healthy, and from what perspective? If I have a business, I want more and more customers. People use Figma because it's good, period. I know there's competition, but I don't want to use those tools because I'm comfortable using Figma

    • @MalewiczHype
      @MalewiczHype  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      It's not healthy because monopolies tend to "go evil" and do abusive tactics because users are unable to switch due to locked file formats (like .fig) and more. It's a fact.

      From the perspective of companies growing complacent and innovation grinding to a halt. Swiftly followed by customer/consumer concerns/needs/wants being tacitly ignored in favor of layoffs, Dark Patterns, and half-baked rushed-to-market "features" and anything else that maximizes shareholder value(retch) the _minute_ they start achieving market dominance?
      Comcast, Apple, Microsoft, Google... If only there were a relevant example in the creative software industry one might point to. Preferably one recently finding itself in Deep Shit(tm) with governmental regulatory bodies. Well damn it all, can't think of a single one. (/s)

    In case of power issue, I think the AI industry will shift towards "in device operation" - because that's the only logical and effective way to operate right now. They've already started implementing it for personal computing. So the whole industry will shift to this path for all the personal to business level products in the coming days. And in the future, it'll be even more quicker because of the NPU sections in the CPU's we're getting. These are pretty much powerful and energy efficient nowadays.
    What's for SaaS then?
    When the server side computers will upgrade, then they'll again start SaaS model for higher end softwares that personal computers/smartphones wouldn't handle.

    This topic makes me laugh sometimes. What is the difference between me screenshotting an Uber app, dragging it into my moodboard, & getting influenced by it....OR, A.I. giving me an average of everything it was trained on? I learned all these rules & standards that A.I. is copying & giving me to work with, but I still have to make decisions & tailor it to my project. Man, I work really slow because I have multiple goals I've attached to myself over the decades. I will not miss leaning on style tiles. With AI we're basically getting further along wire kits, like a lo-fi kit, which we have to turn into something. Hell, I actually can't wait to use it to accelerate song writing

    • @MalewiczHype

    The designers who will rely on AI for their work, won't be able to get from 0 to 1 if the AI becomes less reliable. It also doesn't help to understand the underlying reason why and how design actually helps the company move forward. I think we will soon come down to relearning the basic design principles.

  • @FlameForgedSoul
    @FlameForgedSoul 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    People really cannot move fast enough to get into position to shoot themselves in the foot chasing the "AI" Dragon. The only thing We ever wanted from Figma was for other apps (Affinity, Inkscape) to -steal- borrow their tooling ideas. We think the cult like mentality also stems from what breath of fresh air they were compared to the tools designers were saddled with, but this doesn't place them beyond criticism. How ready, willing and able they were to roll over and sell to Adobe (thanks DoJ for kicking that deal right in the balls) should have been the first step in deprogramming.

    I started using Figma recently... they are missing some basic features, e.g. copying variable styles via eyedropper, true components especially for container components e.g. modal, cards (not snapshots you have to detach or make slots), no aspect ratio locks for images, attaching variables is inconsistent. Can't search layers by name/type. Lots of core features they can improve. Plugins shouldn't be the answer to basic features (more like temporary workaround). No designer cared for AI, this shows that Figma is out of touch and are chasing investors instead of focusing on their paid users and their needs.
