I thought it was gonna be another blabbering video that influencers post yapping about their own brand and life, but you've actually given useful tips and insights. Loved it. Thanks!
I'm a fresh graphic design graduate and sometimes it's a little confusing to start out. I'm glad there are others in the industry willing to share and teach us!
@@pasqsocial probably something in product design. Target corporate isn’t too far from my house. I live in Minnesota so there’s a lot of graphic design opportunities especially in the city. (Apparently MN is huge for graphic design careers).
@@pasqsocial but if you’re wondering if there’s enough job opportunities in your area to pursue graphic design then I’d recommend looking up graphic design jobs available to get a better idea of the opportunities you have where you live
This really helps motivate me to begin starting my career as a motions graphics designer. I got so burnt from my signs/print design role. They told me things like "you'll never make it," and "this is the easiest job you'll ever get..." I never asked for easy. I want to be challenged each and every day and I thoroughly enjoy motion, but so much that I am scared and I wanted it to be perfect. You've reminded me to just do it and have fun, don't worry about making it perfect, just focus on making it good. I wrote down a quote from you and will be referencing it quite often: "You can be worst graphic designer in the entire world, but if you put yourself out there and you're continuing to learn [people] can see that you're trying, that will garnish so much more respect and admiration from [the community] than someone who's afraid to even try." Thank you for sharing these insightful words, I will keep it close to heart.
Thanks for the great tips. I have struggled in the design career and have been quite critical of myself where it’s been stressing me out. Now that I’m slowly changing my mindset and being nicer to myself… it makes me feel not to give up on design.
I feel that Jesse is like my career therapist hahaha, Idk why his voice sounds so calming for me, and also his advices are accurate. Thanks, Jesse, for keeping me inspired.
not me finding this then realizing we have mutuals. i’m a music photographer and have always admired graphic design/video/illustrators. would like to experiment a bit more.
I love that mindset of "done is better than perfect"!! Honestly, that mentality has helped me get so much more accomplished and also be willing to make mistakes and learn from them. New subbie here! Love your videos!!
it's very obvious the thing jesse said but sometimes the obvious is the only thing we need to do. thanks for that, jesse, you are a incredible designer and feeling very inspired to star my carrer (even tho i'm already working with graphic design
This video is really useful , I am right now putting excuses to post content on social media of my designs. You remind me that the most important part is to start. Thank you so much, your content is incredible, keep going! I love your designs
im spending a really hard time and recently i begun learning and doing design too. for a long long time i didn't know what and how to do things but im very slowly start to get it. its not still easy but your words helped me to not be scared this much.
Hey Jesse, I am also a freelancer mostly in the web dev space though. I just wanted to know if you could do a video, or podcast about handling clients who are difficult and navigating the business side of things?
Thanks for this reflection. I’m gearing up for another year of applying to internships and definitely was feeling discouraged after not getting one last year. This vid reminded me that I have to just put the pedal to the metal and start applying to hundreds rather than tinkering on my portfolio till kingdom come. 😅
I went into graphic design so excited and happy about it,i love it,i had a bit of burnout anf ups and downs but they would go quick and ill be back at it,noe its been 2 months or more,im having a creative block ita getting worst snf worst,i cant do anything anymore not just design, and i feel like im jus6 gonna fail in this major, its prolly alot of mental stuff and the environment around me and other stuff but yeah im not sure what i can do,feels like i cant even do anythung to get better
Hi im a animation student who's about to graduate and struggling on what to do with my life now. I found your video very interesting. I kinda want to try graphic design but im nervous. You mentioned about how some people think its too late for them and i feel that bc i worked so hard to get where i am that i feel like i should keep going despite it may not be my calling. Ill keep your words in mind. You got yourself a new subscriber.
omg this video changed a lot in my mindset, i mean, im happy that i see this video right now, on the very beginning of my career, just a huge motivation given from you, thanks so mush Jesse!
So much vulnerability! I felt so much everything you said. I was literally feeling all your experiences and all the insights, I actually needed this! Thank you for this video! Love it!
yesss jesse. been watching your channel for some time now and supporting through instagram as well, super inspiring! from the podcast, to your posts, and crossovers with other designers i love, i see you as one of my mentors for real. i hope to meet you one day :)
Right now I'm at what I feel like a intermediate level of design where I can create something somewhat decent but I completely struggle formulating ideas or trying new things. It gets to a point where I spend hours on a personal project and by the end of it I just delete it cause it sucks. Sometimes they don't suck but I feel stuck trying to figure out what I should learn and how to practice and improve. The hardest part is the self motivation..
absolutely, i'm with you. my work is considered "really good" among the small audience i have, but on a grand scheme of work, it's not up there. i have new ideas in my head, but struggle with letting that out. going to design school tho, i'm sure starting over with the fundamentals will make me feel a lot more at ease. all the best to you!
The first point has really limited me and stagnated my growth. My socials are barely active, the last time I posted my work was 2019. Over the years I have seen other designers scale their businesses 10x not because they were better than me but because they simply just "posted" which eventually led to more customers coming their way. I have mostly relayed on referrals for work but that alone doesn't get you far in this industry. This has eaten me up for years but this month am changing all that by pushing out more content and sharing my work. Perfectionism will stunt your growth, treat it like a disease and get rid of it before it eats you.
Perfectionism, insecurity and procrastination. 😢😢😢 Got me bummed out, unemployed but full time students for my masters and i don’t even want to finish my masters cause of that three pillars. So demotivated. Hopefully, if i finish my masters (or i quit) i’ll be motivated again
This was great Jesse. I’m currently trying to jump through the job hoops and put my portfolio together after graduating last year. I just moved to a new city for my husband’s job, do you have any recommendations on where I can go to get more involved in a design community?
hey Jesse, i recently quit my job and started with creatives. i am nowhere near your level and i do not know where to start. I often feel depressed and unmotivated. can you please help me out a little? thank you.
I thought it was gonna be another blabbering video that influencers post yapping about their own brand and life, but you've actually given useful tips and insights. Loved it. Thanks!
As an introverted, perfectionism driven depressed artist, those quotes are motivation. Thanks for putting your video out man!
I'm a fresh graphic design graduate and sometimes it's a little confusing to start out. I'm glad there are others in the industry willing to share and teach us!
I want to take graphic design in university, do you have a proper view of what you are going to do now?

ugh. the perfectionism spiel hit me right in the feels. i struggle with this so much.

You have genuinely changed my life. I really needed to hear this. And, in perfect honesty, your portfolio is the sickest I've ever seen..
