      Always invoice and collect when finished with your service call. Otherwise, once they are nice and comfy, you are no longer a “priority bill”. Then you’ll have a stack of unpaid invoices on your desk, distributors wanting to be paid, taxes to be paid, spend 3+ hours per week chasing your money down at their workplace or home, calling to leave messages (because they won’t answer) and waiting on the mail.

    I saw one, that had a super magnet, that has you drag the magnet down the wall pulling a plumbob like steel weight. It looks great, and eliminates the problem of negotiating wall insulation. The thing I always fear is accidentally hitting a water pipe or power line. I had this happen to me once in Alaska while in an apartment nailing in quarter-round in the ceiling, the customer was absent. Then it became ,”wheres the water supply cut off”? Talk about jumping t(rough your butt.... My lesson learned is always know where the water supply cut off is, and service disconnect “BEFORE “ you start work and the location of the nearest fire extinguishers are....just in case. When fishing wires are a problem, remember, this is 2022. Wires are quickly becoming obsolete. I hung a Red-link thermostat and receiver, in an all concrete and steel building up four floors, and the customer insisted I install the steel thermostat lock boxes to boot. I was shocked.... these things worked great. This was about 5 years ago. Its cost less than a decent programmable would. I just wired the receiver in the cellar... this is an option in case your on a second floor and need to reach the basement, so you don’t have to fish wires through two floors, patching...

    How do you handle walls with perlings? Those are normal around here.

    • @TheMaster5150
      @TheMaster5150 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you mean fire blocks in interior walls. I believe perlings are connected to rafters. But too your question, I just cut a square above the 2x4/fire block and use an angle bit with a paddle bit. A flex auger bit, or a long flex bit works going up from a basement, but good luck try'in to go down an attic if there's no room.

    I’ve found the easiest way to route the thermostat wire is to slide out the wall mounted oven and run the wire behind that, then slide the oven back in. Then, you can check and set temperature when you are in the kitchen, where people spend most of their time anyway.
    By the way- are you going to do a video any time soon on the subject of why a boiler seldom runs??

    Remember, if you are working in an occupied home, especially with children, warn the adults of the insulation supports and always bend them over so they won’t penetrate a shoe and/or foot.
    Also, you can use the chain to drop down the painted interior wall to “plumb” for alignment. Drill your insulation support down to locate in crawl space. Drill hole up through bottom plate. Drop chain down from above and tape wire on and pull back up.
    Also, when drilling insulation supports through carpet, go slow at first, just in case it grabs a thread. Some types of carpet are worse than others. 😊

    Little advice, stay away from NEST thermostats, nothing but problems. Not going to argue with anyone here about this, just a personal opinion after fixing many many issues with these . In about all the cases ended up replacing the thermostat with a regular programmable thermostat or a plain Jane thermostat. I have yet to meet a customer that was happy wasting their money on these Nest thermostats, usually they pretty pissed because they wasted allot of money on these pieces of junk.

    • @proanswers
