I could listen to Magic talk all day long about him and Larry

A lot of people today seem to question the disparity in the Rookie of the Year voting, but it was really a clear cut decision.
Magic came onto a team with a winning record of 47-35 which he helped improve by 13 games. Larry came onto a team with a losing record of 29-53 and led them to a 32 game turnaround.
That year, for the Lakers, Kareem led in points, Kareem led in rebounds, and Kareem led in blocks. Norm Nixon led in assists. Magic led in steals. That year, for the Celtics, Larry led in points, Larry led in rebounds, and Larry led in steals.
Magic started with a team that had made it to the Semi-finals the year before. Larry started with a team that hadn't even made the playoffs the year before. Magic didn't have to carry his team anywhere near to the extent Larry did and he didn't even have to fully carry his own position of point guard because the Lakers had Norm.
Their impacts on their teams weren't close. Impact is why Larry won Rookie of the Year.

Bird was a born leader of men. He came into the league with that alpha dog mentality. hMade everyone on his team a better player.

THe second best player on Larry's team was Carl Nicks, a junior. Who did make it to the NBA but didn't translated well. Both Larry's and Carl's numbers are retired by the school. But yeah Larry carried that team. He promised his mom he would graduate and he promised the coaches that he would take them to the tournament, the first time for the school.

Pete was on his last legs. Pete had bad knees and didn't play the whole season.Larry and Pete were actually were close from what I understand because Larry's father and Pete's mom both committed suicide.

Cedric Maxwell (Cornbread) was the leading scorer for the Celts the previous year. It's true, crazy but true that Larry Joe turned that mediocre team into champs as a rookie.

    Ola Jay,
That comment that Bird made to Pistol Pete Maravich was uncalled for, unfounded, untrue, insultingly disrespectful, unwarranted and unnecessary . . . and no, it was not funny as you seem to think. Bird had no right saying what he did. His arrogance was out of line and crossed the line. So, just this one time, F**K YOU LARRY!
Pistol Pete Maravich was 25 years ahead of his time and was a GREAT athlete and NBA player. His passing was innovative and his ball handling was astonishing, even by today's standards. His moves to the basket were never done or seen before, ever. Many of his creative moves are copied by players today.

Pete was nice, but Larry's rookie year was Pete's last year in the league. I think knee issues. He didn't play very long, like 10 years. Larry had a lot of respect for Pete.
