My Grandma will be 107 in September and still has wonderful advice for quilting. She taught me to sew when I was 6 years old, and we've had a wonderful relationship in our sewing lives.
Those rulers are brilliant! That does seem much easier than trimming each one after pressing. Also your grey dress is so cute! I love dresses like that 😊
I love those rulers. I saw Jenny Doan take a 5 inch square, sew all the way around it and use that ruler to cut all 4 triangles out of her square. I thought that was a time saver. Going to try that soon! Thank you for your tutorials. Tried it. It works wonderfully.
I’ve been using the Clearly Perfect trimmers for a couple of years and they have been a game changer! Such a wonderful way to speed up the trimming process!
Clearly Perfect is my absolute favorite. It also saves time. A trick I use is to cut the triangle without cutting the square in half. Line trimmer up on the first side of square, cut, then turn the trimmer to the other side.
I like the Clearly Perfect slotted trimmers a lot! Used to use bloc loc- but if you are pressing HST's open it's not good as you have to press twice. Clearly perfect saves time!
I've been using the Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmers for quite awhile and love that it trims blocks up so quickly. I keep this one on my small cutting mat on my ironing station so it is handy to use. Glad that you had such good time with your Grandma. Lots of great memories for you!
I used thangles on a bear claw quilt last fall and they were worth every penny, talk about fast. Since then I did buy the slotted trimmer works great also.
I just purchased these a few weeks ago when they were recommended by another quilter!! Made a few hst for the quilt presently working on. Using the trimmer definitely saves time and eliminates neck and/or back ache and eye strain!!! Glad to hear your recommendation for the trimmer as well as pressing seams open or to the dark side, which is so debatable in the quilting world!!!
I only remember one grandmother, but she was my inspiration! She was left-handed, but managed to teach me to crochet! She never had an interest in quilting, but she taught me to sew and cook. She's been gone over 35 years, however, I think of her often and wish I could pick up the phone and chat about our projects.
She was a lot of fun to talk to about fabrics & quilts. Before my girls were in school, I used to pack them up and take over a project or fabric or something quilty to talk about. The girls would play while grandma and I talked. She only lived about 10 minutes from me so it was pretty easy to pop over every now and again.
My grandma taught me to crochet. She was very talented crafter, but excelled in knitting. Not faster, but I love the accuracy of my Bloc Loc HST rulers. That accuracy saves me time. Note, have several sizes, but you don’t need an exact size of your block to make use of these rulers.
I have used the clearly perfect triangle tools for a few years now and I have to say it takes a while to become proficient, but after this long it’s also my go to tool. Yes be careful ironing, more like a press than an iron motion.
My condolences on your grandma's passing. You're so blessed to have learned from her. ❤ Your dress is so pretty. I love it! I have seen the clearly perfect slotted trimmer before but have not purchased them ...yet. 😊 Thanks for demonstrating.
I took a class years ago from Kari Carr, the designer of these rulers, and she demonstrated them for us. I also use them sometimes, and other times I use one of the other specialty rulers I have that do the same thing… 😂 😮
I found those clearly perfect slotted trimmers from Jenny down when I was in Hamilton Missouri. I use mine all the time and really enjoyed them. I have a lot of angled rulers, including the corner clipper for clipping your corners before you sell, but then you have to be sure that you were selling perfectly once you’ve already cut in half.
I love the clearly perfect slotted trimmer. It works great. I like the fact all sizes are on the ruler. The other squaring tool: the block loc you have to purchases different sizes to match what size you are trimming to. This is way more economical
If you like using the blok lok ruler, you can purchase one of the larger sizes and still use it on the smaller sizes. This does save you from having to purchase multiple sizes (but is only helpful if you like using the blok lok!). =)
I love the clearly perfect trimmer all of the time! I love it! It has increased my accuracy and speed so much for 1/2 square triangles! I also thought they they were more bang for your buck than the bloc lock--also, I tried the block lock and I am not good at it. I love it so much that I now pass on patterns where it is not easy to use the perfect trimmer. Enjoy your day!
I press open and use the quilt in a day 6 1/2” triangle square up ruler. I can never get the directional pressing right so pressing open means I don’t have to use my brain to figure out which way I’m pressing. I use a very small stitch length or else I notice small openings in my quilt tops when I go to quilt it. Smaller stitch length fixes that problem! Love your videos! I love when you “get off topic” 😄 I could listen to you talk about anything! You’re a fascinating individual with great stories! I just happen to be trimming 208 HST right now! 🫠😂
Have you finished trimming your 208 triangles?...they take awhile, don't they! And thankyou so much for leaving such a nice comment. Your suggestion to make sure and shorten that stitch length when pressing open is a great one.
We have birthdays like that in my family. Bonus mother on the 5th, myself and my mother on the 7th, and bonus grandmother on the 9th. Only my mother and I are left, she will be 91 this year. She doesn't sew anymore but I am blessed to still have her with me. Thank you for the thoughts on pressing seams and the ruler demo. I am so excited about the BOM for 2025.
I use the clearly perfect slotted trimmer all the time. I LOVE THEM. They also have clearly perfect slotted trimmer C and D. They cut I think up to 10 in and 10 1/2 in
Hi guys! I ONLY use the Clearly Perfect for trimming HSTs. It’s great! And there are quilt patterns using the Clearly Perfect rulers too. I like that there’s one for 1/2 inch and one for whole inch sqs.
I am not very good at trimming HST with a square ruler. I love the Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmer. If I have a project that requires a lot of HST, I will use one of the triangle papers for better accuracy. BTW, I love it when you do these informational videos. Thank you.
I have been using the "quilt in a day" ruler for my hst blocks, but the trimmer you showed looked awful familiar so I went into my ruler drawer and there they were. Looks like I got one out if the package and that was it. SO...thank you for the demo because now I will use them and know how!!!!❤
Corey, I use the Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmers 90% of the time because I find it more accurate than when I use the the Bloc-Loc HST ruler. Nice answer to the pressing question!
I love the Clearly Perfect Slotted rulers! I use them most of the time when sewing hsts. They are a bit costly but honestly they are so worth the expense😊 Looks like you are sewing Tilda fabrics❤️Excited to see what you are making🪡
Hi Corey , thanks for another informative video. I use the Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmers, which has become a game changer for me. I also have the A2 trimmer which trims larger hst up to 10 1/2 inches.I previously used the square rulers. As for pressing, I do a combination of both, depending on the block size and construction.
Like you, I use this ruler sometimes. I typically prefer to press and then trim, which means that I LOVE to use my rotating mat. :-) You were blessed to have so much time with your grandmother, and how special to have had so many birthdays in a row. Memories to cherish, for sure. ❤
There are actually 4 of the Clearly Perfect rulers - the second set is for much larger HST but can also cut some smaller ones. And yes,I’m have all 4 (embarrassed to admit🫢). I’m just getting used to them but they work beautifully, especially with trimming off the dog ears. I also have a few of the Bloc Loc rulers which I keep forgetting to use!!
Great subject. I have and use both Clearly Perfect and Blocloc. Love them both. Sometimes I reach for one, sometimes the other. Not sure why, but I think visibility, the fabric and how I plan to press the seams drive my choice. I agree that both make it much faster and more accurate than squaring with with other rulers. Thanks. BTW - Churn Dash behind you is gorgeous.
Thanks for your demo on the Clearly Perfect Slotted trimmer. I have used the Bloc Loc ruler but these slotted trimmers look like time savers. I enjoy your videos and fabrics too
My great grandmother and grandmother both quilted but passed away before I started quilting. My Aunt tells me they would be tickled pink that quilt. I love the clearly perfect slotted trimmer! I have several of them!
I use the clearly perfect slotted trimmer and the block loc trimmer. I’ve be even sewing for 55 years but quilting is a newish skill set I am learning. Thanks for your help!!
I use the Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmer almost exclusively. I put the dotted line ever so slightly above my stitch line-- like one thread. And they come out perfect.
I’ve used the Clearly Slotted rulers for the past few years. I use these rulers if I need to make just a few half square triangles, or if I’m making things scrappy. If I need to make a lot of half square triangles that use the same fabrics, I use triangles on a roll.
I love my slotted trimmers. I also tend to press to one side or the other. When they are open, there is more chance of movement while sewing, for me, anyway! Totally agree that we should each do what works best for us. There is always a beautiful quilt at the end!!! 8
I have used these rulers a lot! I purchased triangle paper recently but haven’t tried it yet. My mother was 94 passing recently. I learned to sew from her. Precious memories!
Happy belated birthday Corey! I love the set of the Perfect Slotted trimmer. I don't mark the fabric - I recently started cutting my half square triangles BEFORE sewing the seams. And then using the perfect slotted trimmer. I have perfect half square triangles this way for some reason...
I’m a Bloc Loc user and I have the clearly perfect ones. This is a great reminder for me to pull mine out and use them again. I never perfected it and didn’t get the hang of them. I honestly think I wasn’t seeing straight as I was stitching my second line to make bonus blocks from my folded corner projects. Trying again! Thank you!
I use that same trimmer, sometimes. The only part I don't use is where it cuts off the dog ears. I find I can just cut a tiny triangle off the corner without it. It makes me nervous and I ding my blades on it. I didn't get a quilt with my grandmother. She passed when I was a wee one. I'm the youngest of nine and I'm really old. I have great memories of quilting with my mother and getting jabbed in the head with a needle, when we sat under the frame we used to tie them off. :)
Getting jabbed in the head with a needle! LOL =) My sisters and I used to sit under the frame and give the thimbles/scissors we could see from underneath a little "tap" from under the quilt to make them jump around. The quilters that were quilting weren't fans of this! LOL
The Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmer most of the time when trimming up my HSTs. I will use the Accuquilt GO! Die cutting system depending on the size of the HST and if I have die.I made a quilt that had over 200 HSTs. It was a time saver. I have also used the strip tube ruler and the traditional method using the 45 degree line on the ruler. Thanks for the great video
I have both, the block lock and clearly perfect slotted trimmers. When making a large volume of HSTs, the slotted trimmer can't be beat. I, however find it quicker for me to just trim the "dog ears" off with my scissors after pressing - chain clipping a stack while sitting at my machine. I am also a lover of the 60mm rotary cutter. When I purchased my first one, I was hooked after the first cut!
My Grandma will be 107 in September and still has wonderful advice for quilting. She taught me to sew when I was 6 years old, and we've had a wonderful relationship in our sewing lives.
What an extraordinary gift! Both ways… for her to share an interest with a loved one and for you too I’m sure!
Wow what a blessing for both reasons
Grandmas are so special.
You are very fortunate! I never knew my Grandmothers, and missed out on that wonderful relationship. Enjoy!
WOW! You have definitely been blessed to have her around for this long. Cherish every single day!
The Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmer is the absolute best too for HSTs and QSTs. Couldn’t live without it!
Me too!
I've never used it for QSTs (I am so partial to my June Tailor ruler) but I really like it for quick HST trimming!
Those rulers are brilliant! That does seem much easier than trimming each one after pressing. Also your grey dress is so cute! I love dresses like that 😊
Thanks so much!...it's so nice to just be able to throw on a dress in the summer! =)
@@CorianderQuilts oh I agree! So nice and cool!
I love those rulers. I saw Jenny Doan take a 5 inch square, sew all the way around it and use that ruler to cut all 4 triangles out of her square. I thought that was a time saver. Going to try that soon! Thank you for your tutorials. Tried it. It works wonderfully.

Oh that's a fun suggestion!
You had so many years to quilt with your Grandma, what a special gift❤
It's true. =)
I like the Clearly Perfect slotted trimmers a lot! Used to use bloc loc- but if you are pressing HST's open it's not good as you have to press twice. Clearly perfect saves time!
It's so nice to have a ruler/technique that works well for all of those HSTs...we sure make them frequently in quilt making!
I’m a fan of the Bloc_Loc HST rulers. I like that it literally locks in place so I don’t wiggle around while trimming. :)
They are such a nice option. =)
I've been using the Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmers for quite awhile and love that it trims blocks up so quickly. I keep this one on my small cutting mat on my ironing station so it is handy to use. Glad that you had such good time with your Grandma. Lots of great memories for you!
Many great memories!

Glad to hear your recommendation for the trimmer as well as pressing seams open or to the dark side, which is so debatable in the quilting world!!!
There are different ways of doing things/tools to use, for just about everything in quiltmaking, isn't there!
Aw, so sorry to hear about the passing of your 99yr old grandmother. What a blessing to have had her for such a long time!! ❤
I only remember one grandmother, but she was my inspiration! She was left-handed, but managed to teach me to crochet! She never had an interest in quilting, but she taught me to sew and cook. It's a nice option to have. =)
Love all your sweet stories of being with your grandma and aunt.
They were so fun!
Trimmer is great. Can also make HSTs by sewing two strips together and then cutting along the strip. Love it.
Genius! Great idea!
We have so many great options, don't we!
I am a minimalist for rulers but always say that this needs to be a ruler in your arsenal!! It’s truly a great ruler and such a time saver!!!
I like having it as an option.
These rulers changed my life!!!! Can’t sew without them. Thanks for sharing these with others.
I’m with you! I use them every day. I love HST and this is the best ruler for them
They are nice, aren't they!
I do have and use these rulers. My sister (also a quilter) bought them for me when they first came out.
How fun having a quilting sister!
I splurged and have the slotted trimmers and also the block lock ones.
It's nice to have different options, isn't it.
My condolences on your grandma's passing. You're so blessed to have learned from her. ❤ Your dress is so pretty. I love it! I have seen the clearly perfect slotted trimmer before but have not purchased them ...yet. 😊 Thanks for demonstrating.
Thank you so much Lisa!...it really was a lot of fun to talk about quilts with her. She had such a rich history of quilt-making to share about. =)
My grandmother and great grandmother taught me how to sew❤️❤️❤️ Best memories ever.
Such great memories!
I ❤ the clearly slotted trimmer. It makes squaring triangles so much easier. Thanks for video. Happy quilting
Happy quilting!
I use the clearly slotted trimmer and love it.
It's such a nice option to have!

I absolutely love this ruler! I use it constantly! I am soooo addicted to your fabric lines!
Thank you so much!
I use clearly perfect trimmer all the time and love it.

I've used the Blok Locs as well but they aren't ones I reach for very often. I did find that they were more accurate for me the more I used them.
I have the trimmers and they are super
For my accuracies.
I'm so glad you like them!
I have used them and will continue to use them. Love them!
They are a nice option!
I like my bloc- loc trimmers! Glad there are different choices out there!
Me too!...I utilize quite a few different options depending on the project. =)
ALWAYS time to remember our sweet Grandmothers!
I press open and use the quilt in a day 6 1/2” triangle square up ruler. I just saw another quilt teacher use this ruler yesterday and it’s already in my cart😊
It's a nice option to have!
We have birthdays like that in my family. Bonus mother on the 5th, myself and my mother on the 7th, and bonus grandmother on the 9th. Only my mother and I are left, she will be 91 this year. I'm glad you enjoyed this video!...thank you so much for watching.
I love the clearly perfect slotted trimmer ruler for trimming my hst’s. It’s my go to tool for that project.
It's such a nice option to have!
I have been using the "quilt in a day" ruler for my hst blocks, but the trimmer you showed looked awful familiar so I went into my ruler drawer and there they were. Looks like I got one out if the package and that was it. SO...thank you for the demo because now I will use them and know how!!!!❤
You'll have to see what you think!
Have used this ruler for a long time. Would not trim without it. Love it.
It's a nice option to have. =)
Love the Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmers!! Have and have used all the sizes! Even the largest - to trim HSTs made with layer cake pieces!
They save a lot of trimming time!
Corey, I use the Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmers 90% of the time because I find it more accurate than when I use the the Bloc-Loc HST ruler. Nice answer to the pressing question!
I really like all of the options we have...I have preferences in regard to my trimming but I certainly change things up depending on the project.
I love those rules they are one of my favorites
They are a nice option to have!
I love my clearly perfect trimmers for hst and for doing hourglass blocks. They made the markings easy to see and understand.
I think they are such a nice option.
I use the clearly perfect slotted trimmer quilt often; however, for larger blocks, I use a square ruler. I enjoy your TH-cams!😊
Thanks so much for watching Pricilla!
I love the Clearly Perfect Slotted rulers! I use them most of the time when sewing hsts. They are a bit costly but honestly they are so worth the expense😊 Looks like you are sewing Tilda fabrics❤️Excited to see what you are making🪡
It's going to be awhile until I can share anymore about those Tildas! =)
I'm not familiar with the A2 trimmer....that's nice to have an option for those larger sizes!
I wouldn’t want to be without the Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmer. I use it all the time.
It's such a nice option!
Like you, I use this ruler sometimes. I typically prefer to press and then trim, which means that I LOVE to use my rotating mat. :-) You were blessed to have so much time with your grandmother, and how special to have had so many birthdays in a row. Memories to cherish, for sure. ❤
She was a wonderful grandma to have. =) We really talked fabric and quilts often. =)
Hi Corey, I use the clearly perfect slotted trimers, I have for quite a while now, I like them.

Yes!...some others have mentioned that there is another set of sizes...I didn't realize that was the case and that's so nice to know!
I LOVE these trimmers. They work for my brain. I also think they’re faster in the long run.
They cut your trimming down in half if you typically trim all 4 sides!
Ha Ha ! They work for my brain too!
The strip tube ruler works the same way. It is awesome.
Love that ruler!
Perfect!...it's so nice to have options!
I love these rulers! Use them all the time
I think they are such a nice option.
I use this perfectly slotted ruler!!! I made a quilt that had 350 ish hst so it worked great. ❤❤❤
It saves time on trimming!
I use the clearly perfect slotted rulers for all my HSTs - love them
I'm so glad you have a ruler that works well for you!
I use different methods/tools, too, depending on the project. It's nice to have options!

They are such a nice option to have!
Thanks for your demo on the Clearly Perfect Slotted trimmer. I have used the Bloc Loc ruler but these slotted trimmers look like time savers. I enjoy your videos and fabrics too
You are so welcome...thank you for watching!
My great grandmother and grandmother both quilted but passed away before I started quilting. My Aunt tells me they would be tickled pink that quilt. I love the clearly perfect slotted trimmer! I have several of them!
How fun!
I use the clearly perfect slotted trimmer and the block loc trimmer. I’ve be even sewing for 55 years but quilting is a newish skill set I am learning. Thanks for your help!!
It's nice to have all of these different options in regard to quilting supplies, isn't it!
I use the Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmer almost exclusively. I put the dotted line ever so slightly above my stitch line-- like one thread. And they come out perfect.
Perfect!

Triangle paper is a nice option when making lots of HSTs using the same fabrics!
Yes I use it all the time. I feel I get a more accurate size!
It's so nice to have a tool that works well for you!
Love using those rulers!!
They are handy!
Absolutely the best tool to use. I have the smaller and the larger set , will not make a hst without them. ❤
It's such a nice ruler to know about!
I love using the Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmer!!!! It's so easy to use and no need to move the ruler to make cuts on each side.
They save me time when I use them. =)
I have this tool and use it all the time. Works great.
It's a nice option to have!
I love my slotted trimmers. I also tend to press to one side or the other. When they are open, there is more chance of movement while sewing, for me, anyway! Totally agree that we should each do what works best for us. There is always a beautiful quilt at the end!!! 8
You know it!
I have used these rulers a lot! I purchased triangle paper recently but haven’t tried it yet. My mother was 94 passing recently. I learned to sew from her. Precious memories!
Such sweet memories!
Love your videos, I have these rulers but haven't used them yet, I will now because your explanation makes sense.
You'll have to see what you think!
I use these trimmers all the time love them.😊
They are such a nice option!
I just started using the slotted trimmers and i really like them. They do speed things up when you have a bunch to trim.
I agree...they are faster!
I love the Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmers. I have all the sizes, there is a bigger one. Such a time saver ❤
Someone else mentioned a larger size too...I didn't know there was another size!
I only use the clearly perfect slotted trimmer. It’s so much faster! Thank you Cori!
It's a time saver!
I've never used that ruler. But going shopping at my favorite quilt store next week.
Have fun shopping!
Thanks for the fun video. I have used the clearly perfect slotted trimmer and line it but MY FAVORITE, hands down, are the bloc-lock rulers …✔️♥️
You are so welcome!
These rulers are game changers. I use them all the time.
I find them very handy!
I love the perfect slotted trimmer. I do use the triangle papers sometimes. TFS
I really like triangle paper for small piecing. =)
Happy belated birthday Corey! I love the set of the Perfect Slotted trimmer. I don't mark the fabric - I recently started cutting my half square triangles BEFORE sewing the seams. And then using the perfect slotted trimmer. I have perfect half square triangles this way for some reason...
Thank you Elaine!
I tried the slotted trimer, and I love it!
I think it's a nice option to have. =)
I have used that same trimmer that you showed. I love it.
I really like it when I want to trim quickly. =)
Thanks for showing the Clearly Slotted Trimmer its a game changer. Love it
It's such a great ruler!
Absolutely love the slotted trimmer!
It's a nice option to have!
I love the Cleary Perfect Slotted Triangle Trimmer.
It's a great ruler!
Thank you!
Some rulers take a bit of trial and error to get the hang of (or we might even decide they aren't for us after all).
I use that ruler all the time…very helpful!
I think it's such a nice option!
It's so nice to have so many different options so we can make our HSTs just how we'd like to.
I like the clearly slotted trimmers, they make it so much faster for me.
They speed up my trimming time as well. =)
I started off with the Eleanor Burns HST ruler many, many years ago, and still use it! I also like the accuracy of triangles on a roll paper.
Triangles on a roll are great (I also like the charm pack ones) especially for very small HSTs.
Love clearly perfect slotted trimmers, I also have the largest one for 10 inch
They are great options to have in trimming HSTs. =)
60 mm cutters are great, aren't they!
The Clearly Perfect trimmers are my very favorite rulers!
They can save a lot of time!
