i have a wool scarf that was very large and like a shawl. i didn't realize it was wool, so i washed it and dried it (i had thrifted it). i know i need to use lanolin to stretch it back out, but can you give a bit of an idea of the process? also, if i soaked yarn in lanolin before making a rug, would that make that waterproof?

Sadly, the lanolin will not return your shawl to its original size. Wet the scarf, gently reshape it on a flat surface, and let it dry. It probably won't return to its original size, but it's worth a try. You can use the lanolin to waterproof the rug you're making. The lanolin eventually wears off, so you'll need to retreat it periodically. Good luck!

If you're doing more than one cover, in the lanolin soak, is it okay for them to be on top of each other or do the need to be side by side?

Do you change the amount of lanolin for how many garments you are doing?

Nope. You only need to change the amount of lanolin if you use a different amount of water.

I absolutely change the amount of lano based on the number of items I am doing. If you don't, they get enough lano and are not water resistant and will leak. I have been wooling a long time.
