@@ImaBobbyMudda seeing this opening night in the theater was wild. When Reptile was revealed, the roar in the theater was one of the loudest things I've ever heard at a movie.
@@ImaBobbyMudda Saw this for free with my parents and entire karate class we did a demonstration infront of the theater I was 5 it was wild everyone cheered for this fight
fun fact.....Robin Shou actually fractured his ribs on that piller. it was supposed to be padded, but the place he landed on in the last take wasnt patted
Without a question, this has to be the movie I’ve seen the most times in my life! From child to adult, Ive watched this movie at LEAST once or twice a year
This movie is great 90’s cheese and loved how close they stayed to the original games and the lore. The fighting choreography was pretty good and fun. Toasty!!!!
I think one of my favorite small touches with this scene is that the momentum of the fight sharpely swings in Liu Kang's direction after he full-body throws Reptile. I dunno if most people have ever been flung through the air before but even if it didnt hurt (which it does, a lot) it is also one of the most disorientating things that can happen to you and the movie does a good job reflecting that. Reptile genuinely can't fully recompose himself in time to fight back and it gives Liu Kang the win.
I remember riding my bike and trying to do a stunt and ran over a toy that some kid left laying on the ground. I flipped at least once and you're not lying about how disorienting it is 😂
3:57 the guy behind the mask is Keith Cooke and I can say from his previous roles ; Hes one of tho guys who dont accept gravity once hes up in the air . This was rather tame but granted this scene in particular where shot after the "film crew" took a break and the actor playing Liu Kang gathered the people to add some actual spice to the fightscenes . If I remember correctly the movie had *not enough* fightscenes when showing it to the test audience at the cinema the first time . So this is actually a shoot after the movie was done . Imagine how much better it would be if they gave them more time . Time has shown that these actors went to the hardcore carreer getting a foot in hong kong movie productions in the past which is S-Tier still today. Either way the west gets more and more aware how MA scenes are equally important to the movie itself (Captain America -winter soldier, Shang Chi etc. Kingsmen)
It wasn't after the movie was done because our man had a pair of broken ribs from the column hit. He didn't report it to anyone but Cooke because he didn't want production to stall or stop for him, so he just asked Cooke to avoid hitting him in the right side.
3:34 I think what made justified this move is that the original Reptile looked very human, but he was still very much an ancient animal despite his intelligence. But i just feel that way cuz i'm a fan of this Reptile, I can't stand the new ones. I think it's creepier cuz he's so human, but there's only a few things that make him seem kinda off. I guess the "uncanny valley" plays a large role in this version of him.
Loved this scene! Huge surprise too. The commercials and trailers back then just showed the core 7 fighters. Yes, Reptile was there, but you never expected him to be in a fight scene. Big props to Robin Show and Keith Cooke too. Even over 60, Keith is still an amazing martial artist and in fantastic shape.
Love this fight, including the background music (Control by Traci Lord, if you’re wondering). I found it on Spotify, and if it ever comes on while I’m at work, it gets me *so* pumped
My friends and I used to put on the reptile theme then kick the ever loving shit out of each other as kids. Good times, man, quite a few bruises and a couple unfortunate hospital visits. Be lying if I said I didn't miss it.
The reason why he ran into Liu Kang's spin kick with no prep was because after that toss onto the broken pillar Reptile was done. He was getting tossed around during the final portions of the fight and mentally he wasn't in it anymore. He was fighting on fumes.
I still maintain that this movie and Sonic the Hedgehog are the only two good video game movies in existence. All others have been a hot pile of steaming donkey shit. The fights in Mortal Kombat are so frenetic and full of life, and the actors sell every hit with gusto.
Me when Reptile has shown for the first time: WHAAT? WTF IS THIS SHIT?? WHY THERE'S A LIZARD INSTEAD OF NINJA?? Me when i saw real Reptile: °0° THOSE WHO CAME UP WITH THIS IS JUST GENIUSES!!!
I enjoyed the commentary made about how Reptile looked like a cat furiously clawing through the air as he was jumping foreward; When that part happened, I couldn't help but make a cat sound: "Reeeeaawwwwrrrr!!!" 🤣🤣🤣
At this point I can't do nothing but shake my head this guy is hilarious he started off the video talking about how that head looked like buzz lightyear 😂😂😂
I love this fight scene so much tone is perfect, style is so go the mix of moves both in game and original, and they look like they beat the piss out of each other.
Yeah, that one is atrocious and not even in the good way. Had to kill off Cage right at the start because the actor wouldn't touch the movie with a 20 foot pole.
I might be misremembering, but didn't Robin Shou actually get hurt by that throw into the pillar at 2:58? I think it messed up his back for a little while.
@@BurridgeMartialArts604 I imagine the real thought is "this is your pad. Hit this." for the choreography. I'd HOPE people aren't thinking they can block a kick with a single hand or even one raised arm, but....
