I'm confused about how we define the name of a Japanese sword. It seems like many 重要刀剣 don't have a name but only have a sign (銘). According to what I know 銘 is the signature of the smith, not the name of the sword itself, and those considered as 無銘 mean that we don't know who the smith is but some of them still have a name, and will the fact that they don't have a sword name decreases the rarity of those swords? Hope you can explain this! Thank you very much and I really love your videos

ご視聴頂き有難うございます。ご質問頂きました刃が上の時、下の時の違いは太刀(主に時代的に平安末期から南北朝時代後期、室町時代初期までが太刀の作りになります、刃を下にした時に作者銘が表側にあります。)は刃を下向きにして飾ります。また、刀は刃を上にして飾りその場合は刃を上にした時に作者銘が表に来ます。刀は室町時代初期を過ぎで中期からそれ以降が刀の時代に基本的にはなります。如何でしょうか？ご不明な点がございましたら何なりとお尋ね下さい。
