Now this was "REAL" railroading !!! Listen to the sound of those engines, F-40's & E-9's not this generic stuff we had today !!! You even captured the "The Valpo" (Commuter Service Amtrak took over from Conrail) entering Union Station before the Post Office built on top of the tracks !!!
It's amazing that the Burlington still had many of the old green engines and this time till their original color. The C&NW still had some of their original engine though painted over.
The eastbound Broadway Limited had a simultaneous departure with a BN E unit a couple tracks over, always a race coming out of the station. Glad I had the chance to ride those trains. I don't pay any attention to railroading anymore, far too boring now.
+1-West Productions™ Railroad Video & Audio Thanks! I went back last year to the same spot, but a building is there now over the track. I found another location, though, pretty close.
+Randoman35 That's a GP40-TC. Amtrak got them from a Canadian commuter line. GP40 on a longer frame, with Head-End Power. I've hardly ever seen them, so it was a treat to see one right below me.
I remember being here in 1991 it was awsome :) and I hope to see it again soon :)

I miss that spot. When I returned to Chicago, there was a building where I wanted to stand!

+MIKECNW I was psyched to see them, for sure. So much wonderfulness. Did you see the "sequel" I posted, from almost the same location in 2015?
John's Junction Railroad Videos (jreichel1) Nope.
I'm really not interested in anything present day.
Nice shot of the fire department's old Aerial Tower 1 which has been a reserve since 2006.
+Daniel Stewart Unexpected catch, for sure. I'm glad I caught it on tape.
I loved watching The Southwest Chief & the BN race at 5:00pm
