My cellar spiders have caught ticks, centipedes, flies, and many others. Keep them around they’re very chill . When you see little grey clumps non the ground, those are bugs they’ve caught and eaten 😊

The more cellar spiders in your house, the less mosquitoes and black widows in your house ;) so you should honestly keep them.

They’re one of the most deadly spiders to other spiders and bugs, but harmless to us.
The legs are a lot, but they’re unlikely to come near you. I’ve lived in a house that attracts cellar spiders for 14 years and the first time I’ve seen one down near me was today - the same male wandering during mating season. They’re great spiders - that said, fingers crossed he’s moved along in his search ^^

    • @oriondezine5879
      @oriondezine5879 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@mistypuffs it’s kind of cool to see the female lay the eggs and watch them hatch. She’ll do it on the ceiling somewhere she thinks is safe from other predators and will defend them from other spiders that go up there and try and eat the babies
If it makes you feel any better I’ve tried to catch them when they go in my washing machine so they don’t drown and it’s really hard to get a hold of them. They can’t see very well at all but as soon as they feel anything they’ll run far away.
People that are afraid of spiders are funny (although I get it with how we’re brought up to fear everything).
A spider purposely attacking a human is the equivalent of a human attacking a 10,000ft alien monster with a pair of scissors or something ridiculous. Nothing in their right mind would do that.

I find almost all spiders beneficial and take care to leave them alone; however, once your house becomes infested with the Cellar Spider, they will completely take over your house. We spend hours before we have company to sweep the millions of miles of webs from walls and ceilings, just so our house is presentable. They are a horrible nuisance once they get a foothold in every corner of your home.

Yes. We've always appreciated spiders in my home, and are fond of many different species, but these cellar spiders are awful. Kill them on sight if you know what's good for you.
My mom and sister were doing a weekly cleaning job for a heavy equipment rental showroom that was infested with them, and they managed to bring them back to our home where they proceeded to take over.
They are on the ceilings and walls, in the cupboards and cabinets, behind/under all of our appliances and furniture and every other nook and cranny they can find.
We should have been more proactive in the beginning, perhaps it wouldn't have gotten so bad.

    • @mattp1337

Just because you and all these people (except the one above my reply) in your reply section have a dirty house with a lot of bugs doesn't mean cellar spiders are at fault. Your unclean house just have a lot of bugs to eat. We have never killed any cellar spider for years and yet they never infested badly. Only like 15 at maximum in our house and sometimes the numbers as low as 4-5. Because we don't have any bugs like ants, cockroaches, silverfish, etc in our house except very rarely.

My house is always loaded with cellar spiders, and now that my husband and I are moving we have the basement cleared out 100% and he was down there doing laundry and spotted a brown recluse! Yeah my Gf inherited her parents home in the N.C. country area near the center of the state. I'm from the same area myself and wast too bothered by the few I noticed when moving in but within a few months they covered the entire house and thier numbers exploded so fast before I knew it I couldn't look anywhere without seeing several practically on top of one another 😅😢
Still I knew they're harmless right?
So I kept cleaning the webs away from corners, cabinets, around furniture and the worst... our ceiling.
Which was when I discovered that while they aren't venomous they also aren't exactly harmless either...
I suppose as payback for destroying webs they now love to drop on my head, shoulders and back from every ceiling in the house and cause me to briefly leave my mortal body and then flail like a lunatic trying to slap my entire body as quickly as possible.
So yeah now... they MUST BE GONE IMMEDIATELY AND FOREVER.
any of these sympathizing "surprise airial assaulting arachnid" people saying let them set up shop in your house bc they're the "good ones"... yeah well ya'll can come pick em up and let them tumble off your hair and down your chest while you try Taking a shower!!!

I don't have any problem with them as I never got any bad infestation despite never killing them. That problem clearly shows how many vermin bugs you have in your house. Stop spilling food here and there which attracts ants and cockroaches instead of blaming the spiders. I am pretty sure you have a messy kitchen. Even I always have atleast 1 to maximum 6 cellar spiders in bathroom and yet they never fall down. Besides, an occasional jumping spider that enters our house hunts cellar spiders before going out of the house. And I clean up every corner once every 2-3 months which is a very long and yet they never infest. "Not completely harmless". Nice joke, they are indeed completely harmless and never bite anyone even after being forced. You can dump all those cellar spiders of your house in my house and they will get controlled themselves because of no food and start decreasing. And just like how you humans get tired of them infesting your house, even wild animals are tired of much greater and destructive human infestation in their territory.

Dude why? These spiders are harmless to humans. Also if you don't want other kinds of spiders in your house, keep these guys around. I saw one kill a brown recluse in my bedroom once. They are some of the best spider killers in the natural world. Once I started seeing more and more of them in my home, I haven't seen any other more dangerous spiders in months. My house is also free of flies, mosquitos, and stink bugs.

Personally I'll gladly be infested with Cellar Spiders if they get rid of everything else.
    Which they do.
Because all of my childhood homes, no matter how torn, open to the elements or "Should Be Infested" they were, never had any other bugs or even other spiders if these guys were in sufficient enough numbers. Never bothered me any and they stayed out of the way. I'll take that over a Recluse.
Which they'll gladly kill if they find one.

There is a guy who let himself get bit by one. Yeah, the fangs are weaker for us, but I know I'm not the only one. I've got a jar full of these plus false recluses, & I've had enough .
