My manual says to use light oil on the drive shaft O-ring seals and not grease. The heavier grease can cause an airlock making it difficult to install the drive.
Nice Video. I need some help, i got the leg off 100%, when i took the pin out for the trim rams, one ram compressed and the other lengthened. I felt to see if i could push and pull and they seem solid, Why has this happened? How do i get them free to move to line them up? Thanks
You should be able to lift the outdrive by hand to line up one ram and put the pin half way through. Then lift the drive by hand some more to line up the other ram and push the pin all the through the lined-up rams. It's a two person job to do the lifting and lining up.
Thanks for the video, I'm about to take mine off, I hit a rock and now I have nothing in forward or reverse. I can spin the prop by hand in forward, neutral, and reverse (engine off of course), any idea on what normally fails?
Hey any chance your lower unit had a steering trim fin? My boat doesn’t turn but has a good lean to the left when I go up on plane and the only thing I can find online is to adjust the trim fin but mine doesn’t have one any advice before I buy a 70 dollar chunk of Metal that may or may not help
Mine does not have one. On occasion it will lean to the left as well. It is a common issue and most people turn in the opposite direction to straighten it out. I believe it’s more of a weight balance problem than a steering problem. Those chunks of metal also serve as a sacrificial metal for corrosion. Mainly for salt water. I just adjust the people in the boat.
Could the penta sx model m lower unit be dropped in place on the boat? (The lower gear failed on the vertical shaft), Or does it require any disassembly of the upper unit to fix this issue?
@@whatthechuck3114 you probably want to be specific and say fill until it comes out the side. top would be the dipstick hole to some, unless the SX-M is different from SX-A and others.
Identical process to my Mercruiser Bravo 3 outdrive!
Thanks. I’m about to do this first time
Good luck!
Hey chuck I’m getting ready to do the same. So any swivel socket set would work? Do you know the size of the sockets used metric or sae?

I use spline grease and have not had an issue.
Hi! Did you buy all of those parts in a kit? If so could you leave a link?

Have you tried running the drive up and down with the switch?

I would check the cable first. Quick and easy
is there a way to deal with the coolant hose and components without removing the whole outdrive? Maybe just the bottom?
It’s really tight. I would just pull the drive

No fin or tabs?

Yes it can. Remember to drain the oil and be careful lining everything up with new seals when putting it back together. 👍
Are there oil fill plugs on the foot and the upper unit?
On this drive you fill from the bottom plug until it comes out of the top.

Is there zerk grease fittings on the u joints or is it just the shaft that needs grease?
Some have them. Mine do not. The shaft should get fresh grease and new o-rings.
My outdrive wont go down any suggestion on what could cause this its 2001 glastron 4.3 GL Volvo penta thanks in advance..
I would start with fluid level and then make sure the pump is getting power. Check the switch etc
Merci beaucoup ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hey Budd. What you torque the stern bolts to
If it’s the six that hold the drive on- 25# initially and then 50#
Do you have to have the Line up tool because mine went in without it but does have a small knock
I would highly recommend it.
