Great video! Except...any advice for removing the bottom drain/fill screw? Mine is stuck and I've tried everything to remove it including the vise-grip on the screwdriver technique.
Great video... except... I think when i do mine I'm not going to worry about getting every last drop of oil out of the jug... you seemed to pump a lot of air at the end of each jug.... seems like that would defeat the purpose of filling from the bottom up🤔
Hi Mike, great video, i'm also looking to change my engine oil, its a 1993 four winns omc cobra 5.0, I'm in ontario canada and only operating through the summer with temps from 80-100 degrees F. I'm looking to put synthetic oil in the engine ! what oil would you recommend ? thanks
Hello! Don't use synthetic as you motor was designed with looser clearances compared to modern motors that require synthetic oils. The penetrating characteristics of synthetic oil can cause your motor to leak oil. Use regular 10W-30. Please hit that subscribe button!
@@michaelromer2016 Had a question about this. I recently overhauled my 87 Cobra 5.7 Stern drive. Replaced all the seals. Updated the shift detent. The local boat shop told me to use the Mercury Hi performance gear lube. Not sure if this is synthetic. Has a clearish light blue tint to it. Since these units were also produced before synthetics became popular, is it wise to use a synthetic in a old stern drive? I ran this thing for about 20 mins & let the motor come up to temp. No weird noises from the drive & everything seemed quiet. I took the top cover off just to check the pinion gears & how the oil looked. I noticed that the oil had foamed quite a bit. I used to use the Volvo Penta 90w gear oil that looked more like automotive gear oil before. The Mercury bottle states it has advanced emulsifiers to prevent foaming to protect gears of water ever gets into the unit. But. From what I’m seeing, this stuff foams up pretty good all on its own! I’m thinking I should just drain this stuff & run the old standard Volvo Penta gear lube like I had in it before. What do you think? I’m of the same school since I’m a car mechanic. Run the type of oil the engine was designed to use. I’m guessing the same should apply to stern drives?
@@stevejohnson29 Go with #AMSOIL. Use this link www.amsoil.com/p/amsoil-synthetic-marine-gear-lube-75w-90-agm/ I don’t recommend any other brand after going with AMSOIL.
I don’t recommend a SAE 90 by itself. Go with #AMSOIL. Use this link www.amsoil.com/p/amsoil-synthetic-marine-gear-lube-75w-90-agm/ I don’t recommend any other brand after going with AMSOIL.

I noticed your transformer line was attached with painter's tape. Does that hold up in the water?
Haha, it was there holding the line while the marine grade adhesive was drying.
Thanks for the video.

Synthetic in a cone clutch system ??
that's what my owners manual for the sx-m1 requires.
Would the oil capacity be different for a 2001 sx- m outdrive?
Always start with 3 quarts.
get 3 quarts but you'll use a little over two quarts
Straight from the manual all SX Models take 71oz. Being that there are 32 oz in a quart.
curous cause i didnt see 2 quarts in pan
You might be leaking oil from the prop. Check the seal and I imagine it’s toast. Please subscribe!
