I bought my 6906 brand new in 1994. I've put thousands of rounds through it, and it has never...never...malfunctioned. Keep it well lubricated and it will never let you down.
Pretty much spot on about it’s accuracy at the range. Everything else about this gun is awesome. I had one 30 years ago (6904 blue) and sold it in favor of a smaller .380 to carry. I soon regretted selling it after not being able to find anything in .9mm I really liked. I hunted for a while and found another one. It’s been my edc ever since(20+years). I shoot it often enough to know as a self defense gun it will work when needed and I’ll hit what I NEED to hit. Buy one if you find one.
I love that gun. I fell in love with that model when I was a kid and saw it in Point Break. As soon as I turned 21 I went to buy one but Smith & Wesson stopped making them and I never got one.
I was just thinking a few mins ago that "that looks like the weapon that the cop who was on the floor in the bank pulled out" Funny you said that. It's like Deja Vu.
@@joshuakaeble7810 It absolutely is that weapon lol. I finally bought one. Found one online in amazing condition! It looks brand new! It was higher priced than other ones I saw but none looked brand new like this one.
@@starscream4282 Now I want one. I LOVED Point Break. It stays on my top 3 list next to Drop Zone and Heat. They want tons and tons of money for one now. Like 600+ :( Maybe some day.
I own a matched set, one in flawless condition I found over a year ago and another in very good that I bought just last week for 400 bucks. The best pistols ever made, period! Also have a full size 5906 like new. I like a lot f guns but these are hand down my favorite pistols! Plastic sucks!
"Smith and Wesson didn't send me this firearm". You do realize how old that pistol is right? I don't think S&W would be sending anyone that firearm to 'review'. Just saying
I have carried a 6906 for years as an off duty weapon and i have to disagree I have had nothing but a great experience with this weapon. I have never had a jam even thou i used various ammo. I consistently shoot a remarkably tight pattern.
Its capable of great accuracy. I'm just saying that my groups tend to open up as the barrel gets hot, which is not uncommon. It is also very reliable with everything except steel cased ammunition at least in my particular one.
I LOVE THAT GUN !!!I had one it was a police trade in to lol i never had any trouble with that baby it was sweet i had a 20 round magazine to and a shoulder holster great set up !
Many of us older guys carried the 6906 on duty. I would say it was an extremely popular firearm on a massive scale. Out of hundreds of 6906 handguns I have only seen one that had a strange tendency to fire 2 or 3 rounds with the first trigger pull. It didn’t do it all the time so we never sent it back but we did mark it so no one would use it in running training scenarios.
That sounds like a pretty scary failure. I am surprised that it never got sent back for service though. It seems like a big liability to just have it lying around.
@@ghostraptor7861 I would have to agree but it wasn’t my call. 1 instructor said, you never know when your firearm is going to do something unexpected and I guess they thought keeping it around for an example was worth the risk. Other than that, they were rock solid reliable handguns but that nice easy Glock trigger pull had us all running over to Glock within a few years.
@@robertmartinez1645 most NJ depts. carried 669 and the the 6906 . I’m pretty sure if I remember correctly is both had a 15 round capacity. Then in the 2000s every moved to the 40 and 45cal in the state with the full size Glock being the preferred brand.
Even for 1st time gun buyers. Check out the 3rd generation S&W guns in 9mm. Their cost is $$ compared to &&& with other newer models. And there is a historical aspect there because they are part of the original wonder 9's
You just have to keep looking. A lot of these are showing up on the market as police trade ins. Some of which are just spares for the department and sit in their armory until they are traded. I'm pretty sure that's how I got mine in such good shape.
I just purchased one! I found one online that was in excellent condition. I didn’t get it as cheap as you did but I’m very happy. Thanks for the video that reignited my love for the 6906!
@@ghostraptorgamingandguns4772 Sorry, I meant the ATI you shown in the video: it's an ATI, Commander size, as you mentioned, but what were the works you done on it, because fit and finish are very beautiful albeit "business" oriented...
@@Matteo-ks6fn the finish is factory but I have replaced a ton of parts on it. It's still a work it progress. Most of the parts are Wilson combat or Ed brown. Extractor, hammer, trigger, mag release, mainspring housing, barrel bushing, guide rod, magazines, sear, grip screws and bushings, safety, and I'm going to put new sights on it as well.
You should learn more about the S&W 3rd Gen series of stainless steel handguns before you produce a video on as a subject mater expert. If you had some real training experience with the S&W 3rd Gen Stainless steel handguns( which have not been manufactured in 30 + years) some of the statements you might not have made. Even though these firearms have been out of production for many years they are excellent firearms. I own many and in all the caliber they come in and I have professionally trained with them for 10 + years.
First of all I have never claimed to be an expert and second my reviews are based on my experiences with them not anyone else's experiences or thoughts on them.
i used to break down and put back together blindfolded in 65 seconds stop being so critical being a winner won't get you any subs ! maybe you should try water pistols !!!!!!
Do you really need to record a disclaimer that S&W didn’t send you a gun that hasn’t been in production for 25 years? Dude… they don’t even make parts for them anymore. C’mon, man… lol.😆
@@malthus101 Hah! I used to, then being in my mid-70's and having carried a weapon since I was 18, age changes things. Heavy at the range, lighter on the hip.
Honestly the auto focus usually works quite well but it seems to be affected by the lighting easily. With some videos it struggles while other ones come out crystal clear. That being said I will be upgrading soon. Thanks for the feedback.

9mm, not .9mm.
Thanks for the video! I just picked up a 5906 with 4 mags for $300. Now I want one of these

Dude you're funny the S&W autos are easy as hell to field strip and put back together 🤣
its a 3 1/2 barrel also . guys dont worry about anything this is a great carry gun with a shoulder holster to !
I carried this gun for a couple of years as a duty gun in the mid to later 80's, it never malfunctioned and was a very accurate shooting firearm.

The barrel crown is in place of a barrel bushing.

Wasn't the 5906 the full sized duty weapon? That's what I carried. The 6906 was the compact version.

Found one for cheap...gonna grab it for a fun range tow/basement gun
All metal pistols with DA/SA action that hold 12+ rounds are not so common. 6906 is a Goldilocks pistol for some of us.

Very instructive video. May i ask what kind of 1911 is that gorgeous piece?
This is not a 1911. It's a smith and Wesson 6906.

It seems like you're blaming the gun for the accuracy issues. No offense but I'm blaming the shooter.
How much is it worth paying for
I got mine for 350 which is a great deal but they usually sell for about 550.
I paid 400 for mine in late summer 2021, tickled pink to have found it
