I always liked the parallel of Tony's first Arc Reactor in that glass case that Pepper had made for him with the Tesseract. Both cubes encasing the means to an end to save Tony's life. It's a solid, clever, subtle foreshadow.

The red in the flash backs are in certain places. It’s on the arc reactor, implying the blood split weighing down on Tony’s heart or soul, there is red on Thor’s cape, the blood spilt he must carry on his shoulders. Caps hands implying he feels the blood spilt is on his hands.
