1 Duncan Hines Devils Food cake mix, 1 can pumpkin, 1/4 cup water, 1 t. vanilla and a cup or so of chocolate chips. I like to add a few chips to top of batter before I bake too. Bake in preheated 375 oven about 15-17 minutes making 12 muffins. SO good.
Hi Guy's 😊 just wondering if you could do a video on bio engineered food products? I've been seeing it alot on the store shelves and I won't buy anything with those ingredients. I've also been reading about some of the effects bio engineered foods has on your health. Thank you for such a great video. I love me some those Righteous peaches tho.😋😊
Bioengineered is another word for Non-GMO. A clever word that is usually found in the ingredient list on the back of the package. I quit buying two of my favorite products from COSTCO (one was the Kirkland chocolate covered macadamia nuts which was a real disappointment :(.
I never find a deal on Pumpkin like Jim did. I make a great pumpkin chocolate chip cake, and buy pumpkin all the time. Can’t wait for your recipe for the muffins. Love your videos, I learn a lot, and I’m canning for the first time at 68.
My tip for pumpkin is to buy a real pumpkin on sale during the fall. Draw on the pumpkin, decorate it by hot gluing decorations to it instead of cutting it up. It will last quite long. When done, wash it, take all decorations off. I cook mine then can it in chunks. I get a double use out of my pumpkin and it makes so much. I also make dog treats using my canned pumpkin and rice flour. It’s so inexpensive and healthy for my two pets! Good luck!
Every once in a while, they have it at dollar tree. I’ve found canned organic pumpkin at the health food store (on sale) cheaper than non-organic at Walmart
You can actually bake pumpkin seeds and use them as something to munch like popcorn or sunflower seeds when you're watching a show or something, It's great. They really taste good, you know, some people put like salt and stuff like that, aren't some people put like it's some sort of hot peppers or spices, or whatever on them, cinnamon things like that different things. And you can actually put that arm and then bake it into it. And the flavor just comes through with the baking. It's really, really wonderful.
Tomatos ARE righteous! You are correct! I love pumpkin soup! One can of pumpkin (unsweetened or spiced) one can of chix broth, heat both up put parmesan cheese in the bottom of a bowl pour the soup in top with more parmesan cheese, nutmeg and toasted almond slices or crumbled amaretti cookies....yummy! That recipe is after the fresh pumpkin soup recipe from the DiMedici kitchen show. CinCin! Garbanzos can be added to your spaghetti sauce or sauteed with garlic, onions and herbs tossed with noodles...
You can make quick and easy muffins by adding a can of pumpkin to a cake mix ( home made of course) and bake. No other ingredients needed. My favorite is chocolate!
I love your videos and presentations! Each one is unique and special. Thank you. Honestly? I’m eating rice, canned beans and canned tomatoes not because of their vitamins or salt content but because they are basic, filling and good budget staples. Many of us just need that. 💗
I always keep a few cans of canned pumpkin on hand for my dogs. The vet told me it works equally well for constipation or diarrhea for my dogs. Just a large tablespoon added to their meals when needed.
I'm so excited! I have all of those things in my long term food storage! Although, I'm short on artichoke hearts because I use them up quickly! I love them too! Aldi has them in glass jars in either water or oil. The canned beans there are very reasonably priced. I have even been able to get canned cannellini beans, which I have not found anywhere else. Great video, Pam and Jim!
If you are in the south in warm climate, there areafew varieties of pumpkin hjat do well-Cherokee Tan is one. Also- sweet potatoes are similarly dense in calories and love warm weather. Additionally, winter squash, such as butternut, store well like pumpkins and are nutient dense.
Thank you for another great video. The canned fruit I purchase are all in juice - trying to keep added sugars to a bare minimum. And pumpkin! Pam, you should dehydrate or freeze dry it and then powder. So versatile that way. I give pumpkin to the dog and cats whenever they have an upset stomach. But then the rest of the can goes bad. Now I use the powder and I just rehydrate what I need.
PUMPKIN CHIPS! yeah, num. Canned pumpkin can be dehydrated into chips, seasoned with flavors you like. You can take a parchment sheet, your dehydrator tray, and with your off set spatula spread a can on one or two trays, about 1/4 inch thick, they dry very thin, make a large square or rectangle, season with salt or cinnamon & sugar, or salt. Then you can drag the edge of the spatula or a table knife in square lines over the wet pumpkin spread. This dries so nicely and you have easy pumpkin chips, store some for long term, desiccant and oxygen absorber, but they really go fast for a treat during a gathering.
They also label it 3 different ways . Bushs baked beans have a sku code...scan it it comes up bioengineering and also a small round sticker that says bioengineering too
Humanity has been genetically engineering crops for several thousand years. If you've ever had cross pollination mishaps in your garden (corn is a prime candidate) then you've experienced genetically engineered food (natural or otherwise) People have a knee jerk reaction to GMO but it's been done since humans first discovered how to grow wheat 🙂
@@sjferguson you miss the real points...gmo foods mainly are Not from crossbreeding but from gene splicing which never occurs naturally. Salmon genes do not cross into tomatoes in nature. Besides which most gmo is to make plants tolerate glyphosate...so gmo products are LOADED with this provem carcinogen.
hello, i am your student in the UK, i watch every day and am learning very quickly thanks to your depth and clarity of explaining the science. thank you so much!
I can't wait for the oats & pumpkin muffin recipe! I searched online for a good recipe using oats & pumpkin yesterday. I wound up making a pumpkin wacky cake, but it wasn't what I wanted. My pupsters love pumpkin, too, so I usually just give them a spoonful as a treat, so I don't have to worry about any pumpkin going to waste. As soon as it's cooler outside, I will make their dog biscuits with it, too. We go through a ton of oats. I order it by bulk & still purchase it at the grocery store. My chickens & rabbits love it, too. Thanks for the tips! This is a good list! I buy something from it every time I shop. God Bless!
Now I know next time when I’m going shopping, what really amazed me is that those foods are basic pantry staples! No hard to get them! Since everything right now cost an arm and a leg, it’s refreshing to hear that a can of beans are still healthy! 😂 I’m traumatized when internet make us believe that nutrients dense products have to be expensive! Thank you again for this invaluable information ❤❤
I had a hard time finding jarred artichokes that weren’t packed in seed oils of some sort but finally found large jars of artichoke hearts packed in water at Sam’s Club. A bonus is the beautiful jar they come in - so handy for storing other things in after eating the artichoke hearts!
Garbanzo beans cook up very fast too. I used to cook them for breakfast when I had kids at home. Also, hummus is easy to make from Garbanzo beans and it always a big hit. There used to be a Garbanzo bean chocolate cake recipe out there too and it was amazing! Thanks. I just stumbled onto your site this morning and loved your tips.
Pam, I am so excited about your new nutrient dense cookbook. I need help in figuring out healthy dishes. Thank you for sharing this list of foods. It helps me to know some foods to aim for in my diet. ❤-Brenda
PAM, I am so glad to hear you tout the benefits of tomatoes. I love and use tomatoes all the time, but have been attacked for eating them as I have been told for decades that tomatoes, peppers and other 'nightshade' family foods promote inflammation. WHAT a buy on the pumpkin! I knew about the benefits of it and ordered many cans two years ago but they have tripled in price,(the last time I looked). Garbonzo beans can be dried out and ground and used instead of breadcrumbs,( they work best as in toppings.)
If you have a Grocery Outlet store near you see if they are carrying the 14oz can of Libby's ORGANIC Pumpkin. I got them for $1.49/can - admittedly not nearly as good as 2/$1 but much much cheaper than any grocery store where the price for that size (non-organic) is >$2.50/can!!!!
I know people that have that problem as well. I guess it just depends; it's almost like an allergy. You never know how something is going to affect an individual,(or group).@@crazydee1955
Weve all seen the recipes for corn bread casserole, I think its called. Where you add canned creamed corn to the recipe. I was making corn muffins and tried something different, canned pumpkin. They made a moist, dense, sweet muffin, and I added vanilla as well. They were great warmed up with butter for a dinner side, and for breakfast as well.
Pam, thank you for your channel. I find your videos interesting, entertaining and informative. I appreciate you saying the mission of your channel up-front and that you do not take commissions or kickbacks. I know these videos take time to produce... thank you doing this important work.
I just recently found your channel and have been watching many of your videos around pressure canning and how you got your title "That Woman with a gadget". I can't thank you enough for sharing your information and how you frame your findings. I have not learned more information from any other TH-camr than I have from you. Thank you again and God bless.
Easy 2 item recipe: 1 small can pumpkin 1 box cake mix (dry) my favorite chocolate cake mix together scoop into cupcake tin with paper cups Bake 400 degrees for 20 minutes. Enjoy!
If you’re looking for a yummy crunchy, treat while watching a movie instead of making popcorn, you can season and air fry any bean you choose that is canned just drain it rinse it season it throw it in the air fryer and they will crisp and make a nutritious dense flavorful crunchy treat. You can do it in the oven too but I find it easier in the air fryer.
Nice info Pam and Jim. I have dehydrated all kinds of beans for awhile, along with my store canned beans. I cook my beans with a Nori sheet and some spices in my instant pot. I use Nori because I have hypothyroidism and need the iodine, but mostly it makes the beans taste so good. I just got my order of Peaches from Alida Fruits in Palisades, Co. Beautiful peaches. I will be canning peach salsa tomorrow. 😃 So many ways to preserve food and so much fun for us. I haven’t checked the Dollar Store, so that will be something I will do. I also have lots of canned pumpkin. Not fifty though! 😃😃 Good job Jim….I just love pumpkin in everything. I had to go back and watch you laugh again Pam….you have such a cute laugh. I hope your enjoying your end of summer days. Time for us to go camping again with the weather getting cooler.
The best nutrient dense canned food is... HALVAH! It is made with sugar, so dieters can buy tahini instead. Chickpeas can be used to make FALAFEL. If you have vegetarian friends, you need to learn to make this. And a note on pineapple--I recent bought some canned pineapple at a dollar store, and it was the worst I've ever tasted. So before buying in quantity, test a sample.
Another TH-camr I watch makes chocolate donuts out of chickpeas. "Chocolate bean donuts" Her kids love them! I haven't tried them yet, but they look good.
I make a spiced pumpkin cornbread for Thanksgiving. I've found that oat flour can be substituted for the wheat flour for those that have issues with gluten.
You're right. I make coarse-ground oat flour (w/a stick blender) & use it for pancakes & sugar-free dessert cakes/muffins. It tastes very good. I have not tried making yeast bread yet, but believe it can be done.
Artichokes in water usually lg jars too much for one time use but they don’t last long after opening so I found draining ,putting them on parchment lined cookie sheet then in freezer ,once frozen in zip lock bag , love artichokes so versatile
My family goes through a hundred cans or more of pumpkin every year. It really helps fight acne from the inside out for my teens and is really helpful to avoid constipation.
Pam you hit the nail on the head, peaches are righteous! Especially the juicy ones! Thanks for all you great information I couldn't find canned pumpkin last year so when I found it for 1 dollar a can I too bought too much. Lol
Reese's brand of artichoke hearts is a good value. You get about two of those small jars in one standard type vegetable can of about 15 ounces. Surprised they did not add asparagus. Looking forward to this new cookbook.
I like pumpkin in my morning protein bullet blender drinks. I alternate between banana and pumpkin! Also tasty hot as a simple side dish with meals. Walmart has Great Value 100% Pure Canned Pumpkin, 29 oz can for about $2.50 ($2 less than name brand Libby) and no taste difference. Thanks for your video!
I also stir a can of pumpkin into a batch of chili. You cannot detect it but you get all of the extra nutrients.

I always prefer buying righteous tomatoes 😂. Thank you for giving me a chuckle along with this important info.
Righteous tomatoes are greatly preferred to unrighteous tomatoes.
SO good.
I make these as well,, but never thought to use vanilla in them!,,Good to know.
Sounds great! Jim
Yes! I make this too! But in cake form.. my brother and my mom love it.
But I use white or yellow cake mix, and sometimes add cinnamon and ginger spice
What size can of pumpkin?
I use pumpkin to mix with cake mix instead of the oil and eggs and it makes a very moist brownie like cake. Low in calories also.
Oh, those blessed tomatoes! Sometimes it takes a prayer to get though a day of prepping ♥️
Please don’t let him edit out your boo boos ! They are enlightening! Love all your videos , I watch every one!
I love the jars of artichoke hearts in olive oil. I add them to my macaroni salad. Delish
I love pumpkin. Bread, pancakes, and pie. We keep it on hand for when our elderly dog has digestive issues. She loves it.
That should have read GMO not Non GMO.
Always good to have canned pumpkin on hand for doggie indigestion. It works for both diarrhea and constipation. Magic! 🐶
I sometimes add canned pumpkin to chili! Give it a try, its really good!
@@jdrhea6712 yes that’s true. I would also not try it if you don’t like chili!
I add pumpkin to my chili, too. Recently I started adding a can of coconut milk, along with the pumpkin, we like that, too.
Wow, will try this! Thanks
Thai pumpkin soup is so good. It is sweet milk with cooked chunks of pumpkin. My friend treated me to it for lunch at a restaurant.
I add a couple tablespoons of pure pumpkin to my dogs meals a few times a week. It’s healthy for them as well!
I put pumpkin in pasta sauces, soups and anything else.
Just a spoon or 2, add natural sweetness and all of its goodness.
1. Black beans
2. Peaches
3. Tomatoes
4. Pumpkin
5. Salmon
6. Artichoke hearts
7. Garbanzo beans
I love your videos and presentations! Each one is unique and special. Thank you.
Honestly? I’m eating rice, canned beans and canned tomatoes not because of their vitamins or salt content but because they are basic, filling and good budget staples. Many of us just need that. 💗
Love all your info. Also love that you can laugh at yourself. You are both a treasure.
I love making pumpkin pancakes. I also like putting some in my oatmeal before I cook it.
Thanks and God bless you and Jim!
Pumpkin/lentil soup is delicious in the fall.
I always keep a few cans of canned pumpkin on hand for my dogs. The vet told me it works equally well for constipation or diarrhea for my dogs. Just a large tablespoon added to their meals when needed.
Interesting, I had not heard that canine health tip. Jim
Yes, it works great.
Wonderful! And you are so lucky to have found cannellini beans--I have not seen them in our stores for a couple of years.
I just found out a couple years ago that pumpkin was a super food-Tried to grow it this year but no luck. Thank you Jim and Pam!
I am canning tomatoes as I write this...
I just watched a video by The Deal Guy. Costco has cases of Ball jars for $10. I haven't seen the price that low since about 2020.
They weren’t in AZ Costco 😢
Thank you for another great video.
The canned fruit I purchase are all in juice - trying to keep added sugars to a bare minimum.
And pumpkin! Pam, you should dehydrate or freeze dry it and then powder. So versatile that way. I give pumpkin to the dog and cats whenever they have an upset stomach. But then the rest of the can goes bad. Now I use the powder and I just rehydrate what I need.
What a great idea to dehydrate pumpkin. How long does it last shelf stable once in powder form and vacuum sealed? Thanks.
@@antoninakubilis3198 I’m not sure
If you go to Purposeful Pantry you can find out all about it
@@antoninakubilis3198 I checked. Storing the dehydrated pumpkin vacuum sealed should last a year. Powdered shelf live is shorter - about 6-9 months
Great idea. I give it to my dogs as well but usually end up throwing a lot away.
@@terrihalligan1657you can freeze leftover pumpkin in spoonfuls on parchment paper. That way it's always ready to add to dog food when needed.
Oh, my, those were some surprising and encouraging findings. I'm looking forward to your pumpkin pecan muffin recipe - sounds yummy!
I belly laughed when you said the pumpkin was enough to choke a horse ! Thank you !!!! 😂
I would love some info also on bioengineered and GMO. I am seeing bioengineered quite a bit on food items. Thank you for all you and Jim do!
They also label it 3 different ways . Bushs baked beans have a sku code...scan it it comes up bioengineering and also a small round sticker that says bioengineering too
Yes, would like more info on GMO
Thank you for your very kind comments! We really appreciate that you watch us from the UK. Jim
There's nothing quite like a
can of righteous tomatoes !
Nice presentation. Thank you !
I graduated UW many years ago and have also continued to watch for food related things. Thank you for this outlet.
Who knew about peaches and artichoke hearts?!?… I always learn something new from your videos!…. Many thanks!…
God Bless!
We've always kept several cans of pumpkin in the pantry for the dogs. Vets have always said to give it to them when they are not feeling well.
Same here.l always have dogs, such good company !!
It’s even cheaper to buy dry beans and can them yourself!
❤-Brenda
Thanks for the comments and watching our channel. Jim
Yes! "The peak of righteousness!" Beautiful!
Lol, I prefer, the peak of RIGHTEOUSNESS ❤❤❤❤
PAM, I am so glad to hear you tout the benefits of tomatoes. I love and use tomatoes all the time, but have been attacked for eating them as I have been told for decades that tomatoes, peppers and other 'nightshade' family foods promote inflammation.
WHAT a buy on the pumpkin! I knew about the benefits of it and ordered many cans two years ago but they have tripled in price,(the last time I looked).
Garbonzo beans can be dried out and ground and used instead of breadcrumbs,( they work best as in toppings.)
Tomato products really aggravate my arthritis.
I don't have a Grocery Outlet but I did just find some LIbby's Organic on clearance about a week and a half ago.@@redhatpat9387
Black Beans
Peaches
Pineapple
Mandarin Oranges
Canned Tomatoes
Canned Pumpkin
Canned Salmon
Artichoke Hearts
Garbanzo Beans
Weve all seen the recipes for corn bread casserole, I think its called. Where you add canned creamed corn to the recipe. I was making corn muffins and tried something different, canned pumpkin. They made a moist, dense, sweet muffin, and I added vanilla as well. They were great warmed up with butter for a dinner side, and for breakfast as well.
Great idea!
Pam, thank you for your channel. I find your videos interesting, entertaining and informative. I appreciate you saying the mission of your channel up-front and that you do not take commissions or kickbacks. I know these videos take time to produce... thank you doing this important work.
I love curry pumpkin soup with red pepper flakes,
Add a little curry too!
"At the peak of righteousness" gave me a chuckle. So glad Jim didn't edit out the righteousness!😂😍
I just recently found your channel and have been watching many of your videos around pressure canning and how you got your title "That Woman with a gadget". I can't thank you enough for sharing your information and how you frame your findings. I have not learned more information from any other TH-camr than I have from you. Thank you again and God bless.
Make sure to check labels on food's for bioengineering. They're sneaking it into EVERYTHING, even brands you've trusted for year's.
Everything you talked about is in my storage except salmon. I don't like fish. A friend referred me to your channel and I love it, thank you.
I just love your channel. So informative and entertaining.
Thank you so much!
Easy 2 item recipe:
1 small can pumpkin
1 box cake mix (dry) my favorite chocolate cake
mix together
scoop into cupcake tin with paper cups
Bake 400 degrees for 20 minutes.
Enjoy!
Loved "peak of righteousness"
So many ways to preserve food and so much fun for us.
Very interested to read your tip about cooking beans with Nori related to healthy eating when dealing with hypothyroidism. Thanks.
I need these books in my life
I make a spiced pumpkin cornbread for Thanksgiving.
@@monkeybusiness1999 I've used oat flout along with wheat flour in bread but I've not tried 100% oat four for a yeast bread.
I use canned pumpkin to make dog biscuits
They love them.
Aussie Gal here...love your channel Pam ..you give us wonderful tips and advise.Just wish we could buy canned pumpkin in Australia..sadly not.
All of these pantry stables for me. Thank you for the info .
Wonderful list! Thank you! Edit: have you ever made your own hummus? So very much better than store bought. What a great snack with veggies.
Pam you hit the nail on the head, peaches are righteous! Especially the juicy ones!
Thanks for all you great information
I couldn't find canned pumpkin last year so when I found it for 1 dollar a can I too bought too much. Lol
Thank you Rose&Jim. 🤗❤️🙏
I have added some canned pumpkin to my pancake batter and it was good tasting and made them so much more nutritious.
