Such a cool game. Yeah, it’s a little rough around the edges but solid at its core. Stays tense about 90% of the time. Just completed a run on Nightmare after finishing on Medium. Once you learn the mechanics, it’s not so hard. I was still learning stuff all the way up to the end of my 2nd run. Mainly, becoming efficient at utilizing the sniper. Another thing that dawned on me was how to make the infrared goggles work in your favor. On that mission when the power goes out and your motion-trackers don’t work, keep the flashlight on and just walk around. Much, much easier to detect and avoid confrontations. Even works behind closed doors/walls.
18:40. Having seen what happened with the "Working Joe" synthetics in Alien: Isolation, the scene with the synthetic Daniel had me believing that since we only see the aftermath of the communications room, that it was Daniel who had wrecked all terminals and was going to attack her from behind as part of Weyland Yutani's usual procure Xenomorph first and fuck everyone else if they're not executives.
14:08. Even in a video game cut-scene, seeing a swarm of face-huggers attacking an entire room has the potential to scare the living crap out of the audience.
The only time a game stressed me as much as this was my first time playing Breath Of The Wild and having a Guardian Stalker locking on just after completing the great plateau. If they ever made a Terminator game based on the original 1984 movie and you had to play as Sarah Connor for some of it, that would be how I felt when that walking spidertank caught sight of me when I accidentally whistled, tracking laser and tense music kicking in at the same time.
Game has barely been available for a couple of hours now. Way too soon to expect any modding. Though I wouldn't mind a voice-acting overhaul. Those "come on, team" and "double-time" lines are gettin on my nerves.
This game is so different from any other Alien-franchise game I have seen, and I don't care if this has somewhat faster and more wild mouth movements, it looks like an indie game developer made it and it is a benefitial statement. Like Atomic Heart-level beneficial. The story is pretty good, nice to follow, and it still has horror even when it's not even slightly a POV game.
If you seen Alien Blackout (mobile game which supposed to continue Alien Isolation) then you see what this game is clearly have some roots in it. They took idea of player "sit safe" and commanding group of people and developed it to half stealth halt tactical top down shooter. Another game which comes to mind is Satellite Reign.

Watching this sure gives me 1996 Starship Troopers vibe. Don't get me wrong, I love both franchises. You really can't beat the first appearance of the Marines opening the door and facing the alien.
Looks quite interesting...BUT...it didn't take long to realize the constant "Come on Team" "Hurry up you slugs" - especially during times one would imagine, in a similar scenario, 'silence' would be the watchword, would get on one's nerves VERY quickly. No way I could last hours listening to that. Other than that, I found the graphic design very interesting going from the isometric to full third-person for some instances and then back to the isometric for movement and such. I thought it innovative. Will be interesting to watch and if the constant "when it isn't needed" "group chatter" is at least trimmed, I'll certainly investigate deeper.

Appreciate the full game done so quickly but dam you made this harder on yourself than necessary. No use of the rest mechanic and trying to clear zones in one go?
One of the many questions left hanging in Cameron's "Aliens" was how would the viewer approach the situation in Lt. Gorman's shoes, and what would be the outcome of the marines' mission if a competent officer was in command instead? This game is legit the first elaborate, engaging and extremally immersive attempt at answering that question, even giving the player an APC (*ARC), to actively monitor the stress levels, and vitals of the marines under your command , just like they did in "Aliens", and even deploy, move around, or provide a limited firing support for them in a pinch. The parallels with "Darkest Dungeon" should be obvious, but "A:DD" takes it into the next level by being unevenly split between a real time game most of the time, full of suspense and nail-biting moments, and the more RPG-like intermissions between deployments, where you can manage your resources and allocate gathered XP points, etc. There's much, much more to unpack from this game even still, but nuff said -- it's an absolute banger that really hit the head on the nail with the idea of how to bring the squad-based, (Aliens) Colonial Marine into a live-action game.
I have loved the alien franchise for as long as i can remember! This game I have played sooo many times through and each time its a little bit different! I would love to see a sequel!
I hate it when people do playthroughs or walkthroughs without mentioning the difficulty they play on 😐 There's a distinct difference between people playing it more casually and masochists doing the hardest difficulty with extra challenges. I like both types but I'd like to know the difference
Pretty sure he's playing on easy, though that doesn't necessarily make it casual. Going through on the default moderate difficulty, takes the concentrated fire of my whole fireteam to gun down an unarmored cultist in short order, let alone armored xenos. Max difficulty must be a hellish experience
Man, watching you play the game like this is so triggering. You're ignoring the status effects, and the game is not nearly punishing enough if it allows it. I think that the rule should be that any time an alien closes the distance to your marine, it should be RIP for that dude, and so you should be forced to think about every situation strategically, set up the turrets to cover flanks, and close what doors you can to create kill zones you can control. I know it would probably make the gameplay very long, and possibly quite boring to watch, but the point is, you don't know where the aliens come from and they should be way more dangerous. I also understand that it would take a different kind of mentality altogether to play it, towards X-Com Long War -experience. On the other hand: just running headlong into middle of aliens, getting surrounded by handful of them, and somehow having the whole squad survive that is not right, either. It makes the aliens look like a joke. Edit: Unfortunately, I am being a dumbass myself when I wrote this comment. I bought the game. It doesn't play at all like I hoped it would -- to close a door, you expend a tool unless it is a scripted door close or open in which case it is free. I can't tell you how much I disagree with the decision that closing a door must cost a tool. I don't think marines can be controlled individually, so strategic positioning is extremely limited, basically about dumping down a turret somewhere and that's pretty much it. And I am probably still in the damn tutorial on the first mission on the planet. Marines have stress level sky high, the game even tells me to create shelter, but I can't do that. I once closed all doors to an area but it wouldn't let the marines rest there. I guess I'll try to play it through, but it simply isn't offering me the experience I want.
A bit sad to hear that, but it still feels like a solid game with a great story - although probably not as hardcore as you would like. Since you sound like an experienced X-Com player, perhaps it is OK that tha game aimed at a broader audience? Either way I agree that the aliens should be MUCH more punishing when they get up close. Survive one hit, perhaps two with armor, but that's it. To be fair the Aliens are a bit more bullet-spongy than would seem reasonable, so it is ballanced in that way. But not enough ambuses or sudden attacks to show what the aliens are trully about. Anyways... tried any mods to make the game harder?
@@TheTimelyTurtle I haven't played the game for about a year now. I suppose I kinda-sorta enjoyed it, enough to play it through using a normal difficulty first, then applied the lessons learnt to max difficulty. It turned out that all that really matters in this game is the weapon damage output. I just put everything to upgrading the basic guns and ignored the fancy ones for most part, and it was not overly difficult afterwards. IIRC, my main priority was getting a sniper going because it is the reliable way to take down enemies silently, and I was sorely missing that in my first game. In fact, I struggled more in the medium difficulty when I tried to upgrade everything in parallel, and not knowing in advance what was actually valuable made it hard. The game was also buggy as hell when I played it, I suffered numerous mission lock-ups that required reloading from save, and things of that nature. I think they mostly patched it and it's fine now, though. The stress control turned out to be extremely workable, as I made sure that everyone was always in top mental health condition and this was the other thing besides raw gun damage that I had to invest resources in. I also minmaxed the turrets, I got max count of them early and made sure to carry them to APC every time to not lose them. The game doesn't respect your shit, as you can lose turrets in cutscenes by having ships land on them so marines can't get close to pick them up anymore, and you can lose deployed turrets because the mission ends in some scripted sequence. It was maybe the most objectionable aspect of this game, as losing valuable resources in a way that I can't predict in advance isn't the kind of gameplay I'm looking for. Edit: oh yeah, no. I just remembered what is actually the most objectionable aspect. That one mission in the derelict spaceship where it tells you to dump three turrets in a stupid exposed location in an attempt to recreate something like an iconic cinematic experience. This game's insistence of trying to do these "cool set pieces" is its downfall. It is meant to be hectic, and played casually, and you're supposed to lose squads in this, I think. This is the authentic experience they're trying to make. What I want is more like Space Hulk, maybe.
@@anttilankila1250 Wow, thanks for the long reply. It is a bit sad that the game is not as fine tuned as it could be but from what you are writing I feel that it is actually quite a good game for what it is. We may be a bit spoiled by passionate devs, the likes of Terraria, Darkest Dungeon and others, who put unreal and sometimes unprofitable ammount of work into their games to balance them out. Aliens: Dark Descent seems a bit more aimed at the mainstream, which is not bad since it has an interesting story and very good graphics in cutscenes, which may bring new fans into the aliens franchise, along with the new upcomming movie. Overall, I will probably buy the game once it is on sale some day. I am not certain I will play it, since I saw most of the game here on TH-cam and my bucket list is LONG, but I do want to support the devs for their solid work. Thanks for the info 🙂
Why did you never at all during the entire playthrough, let the marines rest at all? The stress obviously negativity impacts their stats and gives them debuff a like using double the ammunition when firing. Also by the looks of it your playing on easy. Not even up for a challenge and just rush through everything
That beginning facehuggers scene was the stuff of nightmares from svp1 to avp2 thise fuckers scared the crap out of me always hiding and would damn near give me a heart attack makes my skin crawl 😂
The game is solid. As to the dialogue, the writers just sat down one weekend with a 6 pack of beer and watched Aliens released in 1986. Then they rehashed it all over this game. Come on, do better. And since you insist on copying Aliens 1986, why change up the APC?The original isn't that much bigger than the Nike shoe they put in this game. Ya know, in the scheme of things, the original APC would have tied the room together. How hard is to get a job at these places? I'd run circles around them with their incompetence. And for the love of god, her name is pronounced Maeko [Mah-eh-koh]. あるいは真恵子かな?インタネットで名前が漢字で見つからなかった。Anyway, It's the future. Couldn't find a Japanese person to consult with on the pronunciation?
Well you just gained a new subscriber in a funny way. I thought I was watching another non commentary TH-camr I watch and just realized as I’m finishing up the video that it wasn’t him 😂 so hello there! I now have a 2nd non commentary channel to follow now.
If youre frustrated with the difficulty 😂...they tend to make you go from your own 10-yard line to the 3 in the red zone...THEN move the end-zone back 70 yards 😂. They'll do this to you multiple times in a level. Here's a spoiler-tip. Pulling up your action menu puts the game in SLOW MOTION. You're not only gonna use that slow motion effect to choose a weapon and attack, but also MOVE and RUN away from danger, buying yourself time to set up sentry guns. The AI is A LOT more forgiving when you're moving in slow motion. For instance, I was supposed to clear a room of 30 armed cultists. You won't believe this, but I was able to run by all of them in SLOW MOTION, get to the BACK of the room, and set up 4 sentry guns, go back to normal speed and blast away 😂! The cultist stood there frozen. Try it, it's a kinda "Quicksilver" effect? Where you're running in slow motion, and the AI is standing still like a statue! I was able to get by corridors with a lot of alerted sleeping Xenos, NOT by sneaking past them...but by slow-mo running by them, while killing a couple with shot gun blasts and grenades. Then setting up the 4-5 sentry guns (all in slow motion) and then turn the slow mo off 😂 No creeping around impossible patrol routes, just hit the slow mo, run by 'em to the right spot, unpack your multiple sentry guns and MOW them down, until the "hunt" ends.

New drinking game: take a sip every time you hear “slugs” 😂
Amazing, but I am just annoyed that during the gameplay you dont deal with stress during the missions.
In the dead hills mission, You weren't concentrating on rescuing the survivors. That should have been the most important thing
He was focusing on the main mission and ignored many side missions
Xcom + Darkest Dungeon + Aliens: Colonial Marines = Best RTS I've seen this year. 🍻
It looks like Alien vs Predator Extinction on steroids.
And a bit of red solactice vibe too
18:40.
Having seen what happened with the "Working Joe" synthetics in Alien: Isolation,
the scene with the synthetic Daniel had me believing that since we only see the
aftermath of the communications room, that it was Daniel who had wrecked all
terminals and was going to attack her from behind as part of Weyland Yutani's
usual procure Xenomorph first and fuck everyone else if they're not executives.
Not sure why you are not collecting samples
The stress element reminds me of that The Thing hand on first Xbox. You had to gain the trust of your own squads mates. This game seems similar.
That's true. I played that game and it was one of the first things I had to think about when I saw the system of this game
Is this on easy? why didn't the queen at 3:33:00 react to your movement like it did mine?
It is amazing to see the marines check corners themselves, a step forward in ai I reckon.
Will we live long enough to see a.i so good that we no longer dread the "escort" mission lol😅
14:08.
Even in a video game cut-scene, seeing a swarm of face-huggers attacking
an entire room has the potential to scare the living crap out of the audience.
Torrance was a good Marine.
R.I.P. private.
Man the squad's barks happen way too often.
Really stressful and difficult game, but you nailed it!
So, why did they want Cassandra? It was never explained.
Also, if I had a dollar for every time I heard *"Move it, you slogs!"*
Great walkthrough!
Why did you seem to avoid reading near the start?
wow that "double time" and general shouting really is a game breaker for me.
Any word on modding in the long term? XCOM really benefited from mods, maps, overhauls and skins
Game has barely been available for a couple of hours now. Way too soon to expect any modding.
Though I wouldn't mind a voice-acting overhaul. Those "come on, team" and "double-time" lines are gettin on my nerves.
I think you mistakenly assume the stress level max is = max atk power~ GOSH~
Give the marine rest god darnit!
The intro already sold me
Watch it over two days, over 13 hour damn... What a ride! Thanks for your effort!
This game is very, very well done. Best in franchise if you ask me (so far as the games.)
even better than isolation?
@@Zの黙示録I think so. I had a lot of fun and love survival horror but never finished it. This games super addictive
8:06:15. I don’t blame the sudden massive ammo given considering it’s pretty difficult to manage on saving ammo up depending the issue, but hey? Take what you can get! Least you gotten this far. Good video either way!
Lmao looks like the 2 Bytes variable that contains the ammo count was bugged when 2 guys tried to reload while having 1 ammo.
The clip number on the left side shows how mant times they can reload. That reads zero they switch to their sidearm which is shit early game until you unlock the smg
-1 Ammo, then people reloaded at the same time = overflow. :D
I've always loved the sound of the motion tracker. Gives me the creeps every time I hear it.
Is there a correct way to deal with the dropship section at 11:30:00??? I cant do it without just getting gunned down by the drop ship everytime. cant find any answers online.
5:03:55. Nice choice on Gunner. I'm a Smartgunner to the Men side if I play that game now. I like to to wear less armor for speed anytime. Plus he is more Vietnam U.S with the Uniform and the Jungle Boots.
Appreciate the full game done so quickly but dam you made this harder on yourself than necessary. No use of the rest mechanic and trying to clear zones in one go?
7:59 SCP-096 scream 💀
I noticed that too. keen ears
You are legend!🙏🙏
Thx bro you make me buy the game and im having a blast whit it.
3:52:47 That “I dooOOoou” slayed me for some reason 😂
Over 13 hrs!!! You guys are the GOAT when it comes to gaming channels!!
Bro, you really finished the whole game in 13 hours? I've barely finished the first mission, after 10 hours. I'm playing hyper cautiously.
There's much, much more to unpack from this game even still, but nuff said -- it's an absolute banger that really hit the head on the nail with the idea of how to bring the squad-based, (Aliens) Colonial Marine into a live-action game.
honestly this look like old school fun
I have loved the alien franchise for as long as i can remember! This game I have played sooo many times through and each time its a little bit different! I would love to see a sequel!
I hate it when people do playthroughs or walkthroughs without mentioning the difficulty they play on 😐
There's a distinct difference between people playing it more casually and masochists doing the hardest difficulty with extra challenges.
Has to be on easy. He ignored the stress mechanic and took so many hits but so little damage. Even on normal I'm having a rough go
Man, watching you play the game like this is so triggering.
I was wondering how he had 4 tools when meeting up with his team at the start, thought I'd missed a loot box or something.

"It'll eat you alive! Kill it KILL IT!" - Best line in the whole game! 😁🤭😆
That beginning facehuggers scene was the stuff of nightmares from svp1 to avp2 thise fuckers scared the crap out of me always hiding and would damn near give me a heart attack makes my skin crawl 😂
Fine the colonists in the old mine ....ive killed the queen , and cleared the whole area...is the mission bugged?
There were u kill the queen
40:00 Medbay has a KITTEH! 😸
We need a film like THIS in the franchise!
I was expecting this game to be a FPS, i would have never imagine an Aliens game to be a RTS.
Feels like playing it ! Thanks to your videos I know what I might like to play. Got my copy today ^_^ fun fun fun
The pulse rifle doesn’t sound right 😢
Loving this. There was no way I could play this myself even though I was a huge AI fan. But its fun watching someone else show me how its done 😊
"careful; stress can kill you just as well as a bullet." That's all right; he doesn't care. He runs them till they die.
Masterpiece ever. Great
Ima be hearing “hurry up you slubs” for the rest of my life when I sleep now!
After watching several of your LPs, I'm convinced you avoid healing and dealing with stress mechanics on purpose.
Gotta be honest, the cutscenes, story, and level design are much better for RTS games…the FPS games. It’s insane and depressing.
Well you just gained a new subscriber in a funny way. I thought I was watching another non commentary TH-camr I watch and just realized as I’m finishing up the video that it wasn’t him 😂 so hello there! I now have a 2nd non commentary channel to follow now.
1:45:45 now that was a scene the zenos getting mowed down by the apc while the marines escape just in the nick of time.
Thanks.. good game play
Then setting up the 4-5 sentry guns (all in slow motion) and then turn the slow mo off 😂
No creeping around impossible patrol routes, just hit the slow mo, run by 'em to the right spot, unpack your multiple sentry guns and MOW them down, until the "hunt" ends.
Awesome ….thanks
Bring it to iOS and android plss😅
- Colonel Hayes? How did you get at colonial marines, ma'am?
- It was all starting in one fucking bad day, sarge.
The "C'mon team!" and "Hurry up squad!" needs to be toned down. That shit is driving me bonkers and I don't even own the game.
May I ask, what difficulty have you chosen for this play though? Thanks in advance!
Harper / Stern: Stress kills just as easily as a bullet
GLP: If they die they die
Good playthru bud, certainly found a new channel to use for my background noise
COME ON TEAM! COME ON TEAM! Good lord, it becomes unwatchable. Is there an option to silence movement confirmations?
There needs to be a mission review mode so that you can see from the viewpoint perspective of the characters.

It was at that moment they knew...
They f up.
🤣🤣🤣
Could somebody PLEASE tell me(on Xbox) how to c4 a barricade? I’m on the first mission where your guiding 4 marines to go to a colony! I went in the facility, overrided a door, managed to c4 one barricade but when I got to a second one I couldn’t command any member to c4! There’s no prompt in the skills, I can’t order one person at a time but the whole squad will go to it, I highlight it, press y then a, go in the skills but there’s no c4! Nothing I do works, please help? 😳🤦🏻♂️🙄
@U.W.Y.H.L.
In order to use a C4 Demolition Charge, you need to have at least 1 Ammunition (the 3 Bullets Icon on the top-center of the screen) in your Marines' reserve.
In short, if your Marines currently have 0 Ammunition, then you can not use a C4 Charge until you obtain more Ammunition.
Great!
In Space, No One…..ahh you know the rest!😅
It's about 14 hours! What a hard work Bro :)
