I find it funny that in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Johnny Depp said "everything in this room is edible,even I am edible,but that is called cannibalism my dear children and is in fact frowned upon in most societies."
I particularly like his use of the word most,and I love this movie too much
He also says "I am not complete." in Edward Scicorhands and says "At last my arm is complete!" in this movie.

What I love about this movie is that you can listen to the OST and essentially imagine all of it and go through it!

I had avoided this movie for years. I'd seen a few clips from the opening and didn't like the tone or the dark and light contrasts. I finally saw it yesterday.. and boy have i been missing out. What an amazing cinematic achievment and awesome film.

Every part of this movie is my favorite part but if I had to choose it I'd say when he's cradling Lucy at the end and sings "oh my god". It gives me chills every time.

I first watched this movie over 5 years ago and fell in love instantly... years later and older, and this is still my favorite movie and favorite soundtrack. Also set off my infinite love for the creations of Sir Tim Burton >.> He's a genius, and so is Johnny, so is Helena...
The genius here is Sondheim, actually. Burton did a good job but the source materials are are the rarity - complex and witty. Burton's mindset does match up nicely with it though.

JohnsonKayla12 To be honest, I didn't like Helena in this part as much. I think, and I found it surprising, she underplayed it. I'm a fan of both the movie and the musical, and putting the two next to eachother, they're very different. There are things the movie does better, like the setting and the atmosphere are terrific, and Sweeney has been given more sympathy(although that is up to interpretation), and Judge Turpin is much more deceiving and clever.
On the other hand, the relationship between Anthony and Johanna was shallow and unbelievable. Also, I didn't like Helena Bonham Carter as much, and, in my opinion, I would have liked to see a more dangerous and a bit of a psychotic Sweeney Todd. I mean, Johnny Depp had the intimidating factor down, but I would have liked to see more of a neurotic killer.
That being said, I have to admit, the movie is excellent. It's one of my favourite, from one of my favourite musicals ever!
You know what's funny about that? I've never even seen any other version of Sweeney Todd besides this movie and I completely agree with you just based off of what you said. I can picture a more psychotic Sweeney, a much more believable and deeply formed relationship between Johanna and Anthony, and a much much more deceiving and evil Judge Turpin ;) You actually just made me want to watch the play which I've never had an interest in doing. "Not while I'm around" is very touching. The boy added touches of innocence & devotion to it while singing to her. When Helena sang her part, the violin in the background made it more haunting & really malevolent almost like hopelessness. Sooo good.

In scotland I found a tiny Barber shop (like big enough for two seats and a mirror, that's about it) with the name "Sweeney todd", complete with a puppet in the front etc and guess what shop was right next to it? A deli shop that sold meat pies looking scarily like the ones in the movie :D

Im still bitter that "Ballad of Sweeny Todd" was not in this version.
It wouldn't have fit in, would have seemed a bit silly, and would have lessened the effect of the ending, as a few people have said, would it have been great for it to be in the soundtrack, yeah but at the end of the day (you're another day older *clears throat* sorry had an out of musical experience there xD) there are already many versions of the Ballad around, so for the end result of the movie it was probably best left out, and I'm rambling now so bye haha
i just love the song when he cant kill the judge and his soul just corrupts completly. he was too far gone to get his life back even tho he could have.

Honestly, ‘at last, my arm’s complete again‘ is one of the best lines in musicals ever.

I think the physical acting in the film is awesome, mostly because so much -is- song. Johnny Depp's physical acting has always been brilliant, and he and Helena Bonham Carter are such a good combination. Love this film :)

This was one of his most emotional movies, I think. He just flowed, there was no fault in him. For playing a character so cut off from emotions he could drag you to tears at a moments notice.
Helena is a perfect singer and actress. Nobody should be that brilliant and beautiful

I love this musical, I preformed as Mrs. Lovett in my senior year of high school. I was so honored to play as her, I was just happy I could give the character some justice.

I absolutely love how Tim Burton kept the original orchestral texture in this movie. It really makes it lovely. And I must say that I love how Tim added the creepy texture to the music by adding the piano with the tinny, creepy sound is absolutely amazing. :)
I remember when my grandpa turned the start of the original Broadway soundtrack opening, only warning it'd be "intense." Once the whistle started and my ear drums exploded I preyed someone would come out with a whistle-less version. Thank you Tim Burton!

This is my favorite movie, I love it. My favorite song is "A Little Priest". And, of course, I love Helena´s voice, I love her so much. The songs take over me.
I love this movie soooo much, but when you really think about it, it's really sad....I can't help but feel bad for Sweeny Todd (Benjamin Barker), injustingly thrown away in jail, the whole ordeal with his wife and daughter, and finally his biggest mistake at the end. If only he'd known...
My 13 year old niece watched it with me last Saturday, she has been studying the music, and got all the emotions..andI told her to cover her eyes when it got too bloody, even if she knew it was a movie....
