I remember doing this for composition notebooks as a kid. I never would’ve thought to put it on a planner/journal like a Hobonichi. Genius. TFS ❤

Thank you Maike! I have been looking forward to this video as I find all your videos so relaxing and cosy! You made this so clear and easy to follow, I feel like I have the confidence to try it out myself now. Also, great idea about using the little off-cuts as page tabs, very cute! 💕

Oh, this is good! I tried this once and the spine looked bad. Now I know the trick!

I love the way this looks! I'd suggest a simple bone folder or something with a flat edge to smooth out the fabric onto the glue and simply stacking some hefty books onto the finished book to flatten the warping back out. I'd like to try this soon!

Thank you for your kind comment! Those are great tips! I do have a bone folder, but it's one of those things I forget it exists every now and then 🫣

I love this! I’m slowly but surely becoming a Midori girly (I’m a bit over the paper roulette honestly 😅)
At first I wasn’t too drawn to them cause I like fun covers and colors. But then I realized that actually Midori is PERFECT for people who want to customize their covers since it’s almost a raw text-block. I’m looking forward to experiment with fabric next.

Yes, Midori is so reliable and consistent! And I agree that there are so many ways to personalize Midori books, it's quite fun ☺️

Such lovely fabric patterns! Thanks for showing the process. I think it can be nice to upcycle maybe even a favorite piece of clothing that can’t be worn anymore. I think customizing our books makes them even more special. ❤

Yes, that's such a lovely idea to upcycle favorite pieces of clothing! That might also be cute for a baby book.

I like how you just glued the first page down! It gives a really clean and built-in look. I’ve always just cut out a new piece of paper to glue there, and leave a little fabric showing around the edges. Since the pages line up with the cover on Hobonichis that looks much better!
Also I’m obsessed with the fabric you used on the second/last one!

Yes I like how easy that method is to make it look quite neat, though I do like the little frame on that first page of Midori books. Maybe sometime this year I'll play with adding another piece of fabric. Might be fun to combine patterns.

Maike! I've wondered for years how to add fabric to my notebooks. The Liberty fabrics weeks have been a staple in my yearly stack, so this is a PERFECT tutorial for how to extend that magic to other notebooks. Thank you so much for sharing your tips and tricks! BTW, the fabric you chose for your cousin this year is just a DREAM!!! 💖

I'm glad this video is helpful. I figured it might be nice to see it done in real-time, even if it's not the most riveting TH-cam content.
