Do it! I’ve been having a blast trying it out. I’ve been really happy with the results. A bit of start up costs, but I got quite a bit off Temu (which helps). Don’t cheap out on the chipboard, bookcloth or vinyl though.
Please look up ugh in a dictionary, it's an expression of disgust! 'Ooh' would be more appropriate 😊 Book binding is a great hobby, go down the rabbit hole and have fun.
I’ve watched so many bookbinding diy videos in the past month to get ready for my first fanfic bind and this is one of the absolute best and most thorough and easy to follow tutorials. Thank you for that! I can’t wait to watch your other videos!
I went to find the video on how you make your custom vinyls with the cricket and just realized you're a brand new channel. THIS IS SO CRAZY HELPFUL!!! I'm currently trying to learn news ways to continue this hobby and your videos have been insanely helpful. You give really good explanations for your process and make it really easy to follow along. I would LOVE to see a video of how you come up with/produce the custom vinyls and I've already hit the bell to be notified when you drop it. Thank you so much for making these videos, I hope you continue to grow your channel and continue releasing!!
would love to see a video showing how you designed the cover/spine art, and discuss your cutting machine and why you chose that one. and like others, our videos have been some of the best i’ve found. thank you so much!
In college, my book binding professor said that the grain direction of the book cloth does matter because over time as the books age and encounter moisture in the air, the grain will start to curl the book covers (yes, even the hard backs) if the grain direction doesn’t match the grain direction of the book board.
That's absolutely right - I always pay attention to grain direction if i can but sometimes the material available is the wrong grain direction and I would rather use it than have it go to waste. I think most hobby book binders would have the same approach
Thank you for sharing ! Love someone who is not trying to gatekeep their craft but instead takes pleasure in sharing and making sure other people will give it a go ❤
may i interest you in some cute patterns be it flowers or dragons perhaps or you can do some realy fancy classy spines like old age books im also a fan of little landscapes such as flower fields or a lake come starry night or cute cats basking in the sun!!
This series was beyond helpful for my friend and I during our girls' weekend! So informative and easy to follow. We both made two books with many many plans to make more! And I also had the honor of the author of one of the books I rebound actually reposting it on her Instagram (forever gonna fangirl about it)
Very cool and useful, thank you! I'd be very interested to see more about how you designed and cut the cover designs. I've just found a cricut at a library in my city I can use (after making a number of books without titles on them) and I'm kinda nervous about that whole process, but will be attempting to try it out soon!
This is so stunning 😍 I will admit that I am commenting for a chance to get the book, but I truly love your work and think you are so talented. Thank you for sharing your work!
Your videos are so helpful! I'm looking forward to seeing how you design your covers since I also have a Silhouette machine. I'm currently designing a cover for a rebind but I'm having a hard time figuring out the right size for lines and borders. It'll be super helpful to see how someone else does it. Thanks for all these videos and your tips!
ive been binging binding videos recently and this is absolutely one of the best ive seen so far. i cant thank you enough for not cutting through the work to save the viewers time, i get so confused by that
So incredibly helpful! I've been binding for a couple of years and have always had trouble with measurements of my casing. Everyone has always told me to make the width of my cover 3mm longer than the text block not smaller. Can't wait to try this method on my current project!
Great video! I love how it's in real time and you explain all the steps. I'm really new at this hobby and find this very useful! Keep up the great work! I've never seen heat transfer vinyl! That's amazing! My wife has all the cricut stuff! This is a game changer!
Super job showing this process! Clear, concise, and thorough! I tried watching someone else's video and they made it seem so complicated that I stopped watching and just gave up, really.
I’ve started making a bound journal from scratch for a friend and your videos are so informative! I have to practice making the book cloth but you’ve helped me do every step I needed to learn.
Love the video! One question that came to mind was the 1cm hinge you use. Some other experienced people (of which I am not), recommend a 7mm hinge as a good rule of thumb. If I used a 7mm hinge, would I then cut my front and back boards to just the (width of the text block), instead of ((width of the text block) - 3mm) like you suggest in the video? A 1cm hinge is 3mm larger than my 7mm hinge, so I wasn't sure if I needed to account for that. Sorry if this is an amateur question! :) Can't find any straightforward answers anywhere.
I just came across your channel. I love learning new skills and your presentation made this a pleasant learning process! I am now a subscriber and looking forward to exploring your channel. Thank you for your time.
The measurement are so helpfull! What i didnt get though was that the board was 1.8 mm thick, so why do you need to add 3mm to the spine? I didnt get how it went from 1.8 to 3 mm
Thank you for the thorough tutorial. I love the flying keys in your design. Do you have a materials list? I would like to see what you use and where to find it. Thanks for the inspiration too!
Thank you for your video. I'm also one of the lucky few which came across your wonderful vids. The other online tutorial gives so much unnecessary information. Yours is the to point and exactly what I needed. One question I have : does your boards not warp when apply the glue and book fabric?
Try not to put too much glue on at one time and then put the finished cover in a book press until it's completely dry - fingers crossed that stops any warping!
This video is insanely helpful! I am struggling with adjusting the measurements to the t-spacer I currently have which is only 5mm as I admittedly did not do a lot of research before I started buying tools... Do you have any suggestions on the width adjustments I could make to maintain about 3mm overhang with zero to minimal trimming?
How do you get the vinyl to stick without the glue from the cover coming through? When I use a light pressure, it doesnt stick. I used heavier pressure for longer, and the vinyl stuck but the glue came through and ruined things. Ive literally done this 9 times and it keeps happening - either not sticking or glue splooging. I followed your tips and got the mini press, use it on level 2, and burnish between, but still no go. Help??
Does anyone have experience of using Olycraft Self Adhesive book cloth? Does it adhere to the boards properly? I feel like Pva glue is my enemy, it always gets everywhere despite everything!
@aboundbindery I really love the new covers of the Harry Potter books you have made in this video. Unfortunately I can’t buy the books from you due to that I work in a place for people with various disabilities and I do not earn money on my work. I do love Harry Potter. 😊
Hello ! Thanks for this video it's super well explained ! I would like to try to do a hard cover, but I don't have a cricket machine, do you think it's possible to make a design without it? I have wanted one for ages but it's a bug budget and I always end up by spending money for more "useful" things or for others 😂 Sorry about my poor English
Ugh I love it so much!! I’ve been going down the rebinding rabbit hole and trying to convince myself that I don’t need another hobby 😅😂
Literally same

Book binding is a great hobby, go down the rabbit hole and have fun.
This is literally me right now 😂 only reason I’ve held out is because I don’t have a cricut/cutting machine to do the cover designs
I tried that too.....well, I lost 😅😅
I’ve watched so many bookbinding diy videos in the past month to get ready for my first fanfic bind and this is one of the absolute best and most thorough and easy to follow tutorials. Thank you for that! I can’t wait to watch your other videos!
I agree! This is the best video Ive seen so far!

I’m considering book binding for the sole purpose of rebinding HP 😅 Will be referring to these videos when I finally cave!
Thank you for sharing ! Love someone who is not trying to gatekeep their craft but instead takes pleasure in sharing and making sure other people will give it a go ❤
This is such a thoughtful comment 🥹
This is exactly the kind of video I’ve been after as I know I want to take the plunge and have a go but really wasn’t confident on how to start.
Thank you! The measurements help so much. I have scrapped too many boards - spine *plus* chipboard makes so much sense!
PLEASE show your design process for the cover/spine art it’s the only place I’m hitting a creative wall
may i interest you in some cute patterns be it flowers or dragons perhaps or you can do some realy fancy classy spines like old age books im also a fan of little landscapes such as flower fields or a lake come starry night or cute cats basking in the sun!!
Look up “Ingenious Designs”, he has a great video on that exact topic!

Just rebound my first ever book watching your tutorials - thank you so much!!❤

The heat transfer vinyl came out so nicely. Wonderful results, thank you for this!
I would love to rebind so many of my books 😂 I love this so much!
I've just ordered a basic book binding kit and your video is going to help me get started. Thank you so much for a clear and concise lesson.
Thank you for posting tutorials! I’ve been wanting to learn but classes are expensive so it’s nice to have this as a resource! 💖
ive been binging binding videos recently and this is absolutely one of the best ive seen so far. i cant thank you enough for not cutting through the work to save the viewers time, i get so confused by that
This is very beautiful and I love that you show everything real time. Thank you!
How clever. What a creative outlet.

Fingers crossed for you!!
Beautifully explained. A much better finish than the junk journal book binding I have watched. I am a Harry Potter fan so would love the prize.
Love love love. It’s so helpful seeing things in real time and talking through the fixes for any issues! Thank you!! 🫶🏼
At least one thing goes wrong every time so hopefully you can learn from my mistakes 😅
I love the look of the hardcover and how it turned out. So pretty,
Great video! I love how it's in real time and you explain all the steps. I'm really new at this hobby and find this very useful! Keep up the great work!

I’m just starting my book binding journey and your videos were so easily to follow along with and has made me so excited to get started!!! 😍😍😍
This video was so helpful, thank you so much for sharing. The cover turned out beautiful too!
The measurements are so helpful, thank you!!
This was very helpful, thanks for making this!
Thank you so much for these videos!! Finally someone who shows everything!! 💞💞
This is the tutorial I wish I had when I was starting
Beautiful work! You make it look so easy! Love it!
Love your guides, super helpful for getting into the hobby!
Came across this accidentally, and loved it. Thank you. Have liked and subscribed.
I'd really love to know how long the vinyl lasts. Does it peel off in time?
I'm so happy I came across your TH-cam account. I love your work
This is brilliant! Thanks for sharing!

Yes that's exactly right! Since this video, I've gone to a smaller hinge space as well so will be doing the same
I love this. Thank you for making this tutorial. ❤
I love your work!! I have been following you and everything you do is amazing!!
Absolutely beautiful and fantastic explanations !
Found you from IG and your giveaway! I love these binding videos! In awe of your talent!
This is amazing!!! I'm so excited to try rebinding a book! Thank you :)
I’ve found my new fixation that I will convince myself that I can do and then give up and forget about it a month later 😅
Hehehe do it!! (Well… not the giving up part)
I just came across your channel. I love learning new skills and your presentation made this a pleasant learning process! I am now a subscriber and looking forward to exploring your channel. Thank you for your time.
GREAT video tutorial!! Thank you so much!!❤😊
Absolutely gorgeous ✨ looks so regal
The measurement are so helpfull! What i didnt get though was that the board was 1.8 mm thick, so why do you need to add 3mm to the spine? I didnt get how it went from 1.8 to 3 mm
You need to do 1.8 twice, since you have a board on each side. That adds to 3.6 mm and she decided to round it down to 3mm
Thank you I was curious about this too
Thank you for sharing! Every time I see your books, I want to rebind all of mine 😂
this is absolutely stunning ❤
I use an iron for clothing, works fantastic
Great video. Beautiful hardcover.
I just discovered your channel. This is amazing!❤
Thank you so much❤ It's very helpful😊
Stunning 😍 I'd love to give this ago ❤
Thank you for the thorough tutorial. I love the flying keys in your design. Do you have a materials list? I would like to see what you use and where to find it. Thanks for the inspiration too!
Soooo beautiful!!!
Magnificent video! Thanks. DD
Thank you for your video. I'm also one of the lucky few which came across your wonderful vids. The other online tutorial gives so much unnecessary information. Yours is the to point and exactly what I needed. One question I have : does your boards not warp when apply the glue and book fabric?
I put the cover under something flat and heavy while it dries to avoid warping!
Okay so- this is like my first time ever commenting. And i just had to bc ur so flipping underrated.
Excellent tutorial! From Cheryl in AZ, USA
Could you paint the book instead of Vinal ? Or more accurately can I paint the book cloth
Thank you for sharing! I’ve been wanting to learn to bind for a while now so I’m really excited for this!
Out of curiosity have you considered permanent adhesive vinyl instead of HTV if remelting the glue is a concern?
Newbie question. How do you determine how big to make your hinge? Does the size of the book determine that?
So helpful!❤
I need to learn how to do this!!!
So pretty! 🤩
Seems a bit difficult, but not impossible. It looks very pretty! 🥰
at 4:30 when you get to the cardstock, how thick should that be? You said 5 inches, but it's card stock, so I'm guessing mm?
Thankyou, thankyou. Best explanation. My books pull apart from the spine. Am I not leaving enough room between covers and spine?
I want to try doing this so bad!
This is awesome 😍
Thank you so much for putting all of this together! I’ve been wanting to get into bookbinding but have been so overwhelmed!
Thank you for this amazing real-time tutorial. Quick question: would the steps be the same for a leather cover instead of this type of paper?
hi! I would like to ask whether it is possible to stitch on the design before sticking on the cloth instead of using vinyl tsym:)
It is possible but far beyond my skill level - I have seen some amazing creators do this!
Love this!
This rebind is so beautiful and filled with personality! It’s amazing!
What would you suggest using if you just want an easy, less expensive way to gold foil?
Love this video and your beautiful work! May I ask where you got your book board?
What do you do if the book board warps from the PVA glue while putting the cloth on?
Try not to put too much glue on at one time and then put the finished cover in a book press until it's completely dry - fingers crossed that stops any warping!
This video is insanely helpful! I am struggling with adjusting the measurements to the t-spacer I currently have which is only 5mm as I admittedly did not do a lot of research before I started buying tools... Do you have any suggestions on the width adjustments I could make to maintain about 3mm overhang with zero to minimal trimming?
if the board is only 1.8mm thick, why do you add on 3mm for the spine? thanks 🙂
If you’re binding a really thick book do you recommend making the hinges bigger?
problem is not all chip board is cut straight by the manufacture so you have to cut in the middle to get good sides and edges. lol
very cool process!
I ordered a book and i found i it slightly damaged so i thought avout tossing it , and i think this the sign for me to start :)
Perfect opportunity!!
How do you get the vinyl to stick without the glue from the cover coming through? When I use a light pressure, it doesnt stick. I followed your tips and got the mini press, use it on level 2, and burnish between, but still no go. Help??
How does one could get this paper you're ironing? is it a special paper? can i buy it?
Does anyone have experience of using Olycraft Self Adhesive book cloth? Does it adhere to the boards properly? I feel like Pva glue is my enemy, it always gets everywhere despite everything!
@aboundbindery I really love the new covers of the Harry Potter books you have made in this video. Unfortunately I can’t buy the books from you due to that I work in a place for people with various disabilities and I do not earn money on my work. I do love Harry Potter. 😊
Do you will teach how you do the HTV designers?
Hello ! Thanks for this video it's super well explained ! I would like to try to do a hard cover, but I don't have a cricket machine, do you think it's possible to make a design without it?
I have wanted one for ages but it's a bug budget and I always end up by spending money for more "useful" things or for others 😂
Sorry about my poor English
Hi, can you please share where you get your book fabric?
Hii what can i use other than book cloth? Wanna try this too
Ask i can say is
Holy WOW!!!
