"a level teaspoon of sugar" ~rakes excess into pot~
Lmao.
+Elizabeth Morrison haha
ikr!hahahaha
Lol X-actly
+Elizabeth Morrison the scene that cracks me up the most was when Mike just dumps the spoons back into the salad he was tossing, snorts (was it?) & said, "Come on, Chinese people don't eat salad," & walks away
As an asian, i need to tell you that every time i cook with measurement it fails, therefore i cook with the power of estimation
Same here
So true, some times following the recipe to a tee doesn't match your pallette
that's how my parents do it! Btw I'm chinese along with my entire fam :D
farrel purwoko yep so true
Yes
Westerners: Ugh, rice is SO complicated to cook!
Rice Cooker: *Am I a damn joke to you*
It is bc the instrutions are in Kangis .
Rice is the first thing i knew to cook since the first moment i knew to cook.. 😅

I just use an Instant Pot... It's this amazing multi-purpose appliance with a rice setting, among many others.
Asians so good at math they can measure without utensils

Toni meow ASIAN POWARRRRRRRRRR
Toni meow
You was right.
Toni meow XD
Actually our cooking depends a lot on experiences. You have to do a dish a couple of times to have a hold at it. When I learnt cooking something from my mom, she did tell me how much to put in, but only for reference. For example, for seasoning, I taste the food as I go, and based on experience I know what lacks to adjust, so I don't go strictly to recipe. Or for making soups or sauces or cooking meat and veggies, I know when they're done by checking the texture or consistency, not by counting time. My mom is even more superb, she checks temperature of oil by hovering her hand over the pan and by some miracle she knows when it is hot enough! I'm trying to be able to do that too :3
It's kind of hard to explain but practice makes perfect xD
“A level teaspoon of sugar”
*pushes the excess into the pot*
eh not like they were actually cooking amything
xDD
pink Fungi So they wasted food for this video? Damn it, they could’ve made something good for them to eat.
Well, a little bit extra is fine
I was looking for this comment.
Imagine if they swapped
Western: So put 1/2 cup in
Asian: Like my grandma’s 1/2 cup or my uncle’s 1/2 cup
Western: ....what.
Asian: Add some salt
Western: How much
Asian: some
Western: Like a pinch?
Asian: Just look to the stars, embrace it, and follow your heart
Western: ....so like a pinch?
Asian: some
Lol a pinch
My parents have like 40 different utensils but *Never use them*
DailyArmyTea same except they get the exact same utensils but look different we have three of the same measurement cups
Same! They only use like 3 of them. A large spoon, spatula, and this other thing I forgot the name of. ;-;
Same
SAME BRO!! It's painful...
Army
Anyone else follow a recipe the first couple times you make something, then once you're used to it just start throwing things in?
u got my word man. i do this and funny thing is it tastes better than actually not following the measures for the food but i always follow measurement for desserts haha
i do, I have even started with a recipe and then come up with something completely different, due to improvises and other changes i felt like doing
Me at the start: Am gonna make curry.
In the middle: It tasted like soup. I think soup is fine then.
At the end: What a delicious caramel..!!
***** based on true story. i do feel like a wizard cuz i throw in whatever i found in the kitchen.. XD
me!
did he just spill the leftover sugar into the pot and then put the exact sugar in
yup.
yea i tought im the only one who noticed it.

I keep my pans in my oven.
what's the point of buying an entire giant oven when you can get the counter sized one? Can even keep oranges and apples in there
My Neighbor do it back then

@@aquareon2347 we normally buy it for the stoves lol cuz alot of induction stoves take up alottt of current so we tryin to save our money here.and sometimes it comes along with houses soo
When asking my mom how to cook traditional Chinese recipes:
Me: How much of [ingredient]?
Mom: Just a little bit/ Just a pinch/ Just guess
Anxiety fill me every time
That's me !!😆
Same for my abuela from Puerto Rico... I think it really depends on if you learned from your grandparents/family or food network/PBS
My mom does the same thing. Her recipes have ingredients listed with no amount and very short directions.
omg same same! my mum said exactly just like your mum.
As an a person from Asia, we use the power of estimation
Just saying, a lot of people around the world estimate as well. Most people take a pinch of salt, or a squirt of vegetable oil, or just scoop whatever amount of something they want depending on how they feel.
But if you want to be precise and professional, you should measure, especially for something like baking.
Yes we do
And eye power
True or just muscle memory
Haha we use our math skills.
When you relate more to the Asian side but then realise that's because you are Asian.
KillerGamerGirl same lol
KillerGamerGirl you're right
True true
When you relate more to the Western side but then realize that even though you are Asian
When all the likes on the comment above are all asians XD
It's so true in South Asia as well...I feel like estimation is a power of Asian moms..also hitting moving targets with flying sandals. And also what is dessert and salad, have a fruit.
Liza Banik haha true😂
That sound like latin americans, especially the sandals part 😂
Lol true I am south Asian and my family and me live in Europe but my mom still does that.
True, I once asked my mom to make me and my family a salad and she said "what?? Salad?? You don't need salad, eat a fruit"
So true

*"C'mon, Chinese people don't eat salad!"*
Me: True..
Asian salad: dip raw vegetable into vinegar or soy sauce, then consume... ( Sometimes we blanch them too...)
There's vegetables in the stir fry we're good ^-^
personally, salad is disgusting, like seasoned and cooked vegetables is so much better!
Definitly
Because some raw veggies are not good for digestion.
He didn’t wash the rice....
He. Didn't. Wash. The. Rice. He not real Asian.

lmao
Shiver smae
I'm only exact when baking.
FRIEND: These spring rolls are good. Can I have the recipe?
ME: Well, you put some ground pork into a large mixing bowl. Then you cut up some cabbage really thin. Grate some carrot. Cut up an onion into thin slivers. Throw all of that in with the meat. You can put other stuff too like bamboo shoots or mushrooms or whatever. Then you add some salt, black pepper, oyster sauce, and a little bit of fish sauce.
FRIEND: Uhhh how much of each should I use?
ME: IDK, I just add stuff until I feel like stopping.
Yeah well you need to be exact when baking, it's a chemistry.
saaame when I make my special sauce for my signature lobster rolls. I even forget what I put in it so I get all kinds of diff flavors each time 😡
You kind of have to be exact with baking. Unless you want to totally botched the whole batch
K Melissa Obviously, which is why I and others said we're exact when baking :P
Pooh Bear K good just thought you thought it wasnt a chemisty
when you hear your ancestors telling you "it's enough my child", that's when you will stop pouring or adding ingredients.

Andreiwin thats the asian style 😂😂😂
"I love when I follow the recipe perfectly!"
i assumed that he swept it outside of the pan. i cant really tell without seeing more of the outer edge of the pan.
We westerners ignorantly sabotage our recipes quite frequently, but usually not in this exact manner.
He also lack pepper in peppermill. Just fine observation.
As you can see, we asian only use one kind of math, estimation and probability
agreed
that's 2

That's more like science but ok

Q: why Asian people don't measure ingredients?
A: the perfect measuring tools are your eyes.....
Piss off. That was funny two decades ago.
Edward Liu it is not a joke.... my mom does the eye-measuring and intuitive seasoning all the time.... and still producing flawless results everytime
+Ninja Toe Forgive me, I read your comment wrong.
Edward Liu wow... your apology make me sound like some kind of Royalty or stuff.... XDDD anyway, I just cleared the misunderstanding :D

mum: ”put ur finger in the container, pinch and throw the salt into the wok. if it’s not enough, put till u think it enoug- get that spoon away from the salt! what do you think you’re doing?! is this how I’ve raised you?”
true. my mum use her finger for salt estimation.
i cant follow her skills.
As an Asian, we have special trained eyes from watching our mom cook to estimate approximately the right amount of anything.
People who are into cooking don’t use measures. Baking is different, it’s more like science, you mess up in one ingredient and the whole thing is ruined.
So true
I agree with you.
Definitely. The only time I’ve found there’s a bit of wiggle room is flavorings, and even then, putting a tablespoon instead of a teaspoon of vanilla can wreck a dish(I’m sad to say I’m speaking from experience. Eyeballing vanilla gets dangerous people.)
that was me
Nag you can still save it for adding a little bit of taste
Are you interested in Chinese food ?I have some Chinese home cuisine videos. Looking forward to watching the videos.
As an Asian, this is literally how it is in our kitchen every day

do western people not... use rice cookers?
ratherunfortunate they think theyre good enough to master the mysterious power of rice god
ratherunfortunate We do, well some do. But instead of having one thing that is used for just cooking rice we rather use a normal pot because it's used for other things as well.
ratherunfortunate Never in my life have I seen a rice cooker... I didn't even know they exist. I cook rice the same as pasta. Until it gets edible.
Rice cookers aren't just for rice. They make great steamers. It also shows your parents that you're not completely white once you've gone off to college. No rice dispenser though... I'm only half

Well, this is pretty much accurate in my experience. I'm Indian and I have never used a spoon or measuring cup to measure out ingredients in my life. Cooking, as my mom taught me, is mostly about eyeballing things and tasting as you go. Also, what is up with having dozens of tiny bowls out for the ingredients? Too much washing up.

My dad is in immigrant from Thailand and Ive never once seen him use a measurement cup or spoons or anything
its easy to memorize the amounts required,
*THAILAND IS MY CITY*
We don't measure. When we feel it should be enough, we add one more handful to make it intense.

I noticed that from the cooking shows i've watched..... I watched TONS of cooking shows already 😂😂
I can relate to this. I have a Filipina “step-grandmother” and I tried to learn to make adobo (A braised chicken or pork dish with soy sauce, garlic, vinegar, and bay leaves) I asked for measurements but she taught me the power of Asian eyeballs when it comes to measurement. She just taught me to eyeball everything, I even learned the finger trick for rice from her. Safe to say, I now rarely measure when cooking. The only rice I measure water for is Japanese rice because the ratio is different.
I loved the part where he's like "a level teaspoon of sugar" and then brushes the sugar over the level directly into the pot anyway.
Me too
seigeengine ikr, that was oddly satisfying

But then again i cant complain when you need a few metres of wood choped with a axe of course.
+Tojetaj Nikolic LOL I believe every man should be able to chop wood and cook up some food. So should every woman. Chores need to be shared equally. Women aren't born to be housekeepers.

Thats what we do in Serbia, there is no mesurments, you just cook to your taste and use spoon to taste. Best way ever!
