First of all! THANK YOU FOR THIS NICE TOTURIAL FOR TR8! Even 06.2019 still useful and helpful! .. i was stucked for the simple stupid pattern/program saving issue! not one of the 50 clips wat i saw in da past really where helping... So Thank you! 4 this awesome Toturial... CHEERS 😊
Great!! Posted a track I did using it on TH-cam. Downloaded the update patch too. It really is a beast, I love the way the claps sound when they roll!!
Hey Leonard, this tutorial/demo was honesty even better than the ones Roland did themselves. So thanks for that :) Was wondering though, if you'd had a chance to use the MFB Tanzbar yet? Can't seem to find any in depth review for it. .. Thanks again!
Hey mate! I've got both the Tanzbar and a tr8... The tanzbar in a nutshell has its own sound which I think makes it worth owning. It's cymbal and hihat are very 606/808ish. One kick can get 909 or 808, and a lot more! The other kick is great for 808 and as a pitch bend bassline. The clap is unique sounds very nice. If you want I can go on?:)
Any idea how to get the tr8 to sound MORE ass-kicking and less clean? I got a set up recently (mx1, tb3, tr8, m1, and some of the efx modules) and need a really hard rustic gritty punky sound to be appropriate for the hard punky acid-techno I enjoy making, but for me so far, I'm finding the tr8 a bit flat, weak, with little genuine dynamics. Any hints or tips anyone?
The machine has quite a dry sound. This is preferable for a producer as dirt can be added but can never be removed once recorded. Run it through some drive or distortion for some grit.
Hello, I recently bought this product and in the ad description, it said that it was possible to import samples to the Tr8, I would like to know how this can be done because I have not found any way.
Kosmic Would I be able to feed another synth through the Aira? Something like A Novation Bass Station, and would I need a dedicated Audio Interface for this? Thanks! And great video by the way
Can you use this with a digitech looper pedal, so you could use this drum machine as your metronome to record your loop, then play back the loop and use the tr live with the loop in time together.?
I think it's an affectation they all copy which helps them to believe they're musicians creating art, regardless of whether that's the case. It's much like the "guitar solo" face you see guitarists and wannabe guitarists use, regardless of whether they're any good.
I just bought a tr-8 (My first drum computer). Whenever i try to make a patern i cant use the ride-symbal at The same time with a openhat. Is It possible to play those at The same time when i change something in My setting or isn’t this possible at all? I have My tr -8 connected through stereo output to My mbox pro (interface)… (i dont know If that has something to do with it). Help would be very appreciated!
Is there any latency when working with software? I want to get one but mainly as a tool for the studio so ideally I would want it to work swift with cubase. Does it sync up with your software when recording/playing back? If you could do a more in depth video on the tr8 with software ware that would be epic. Cheers
Otherwise would I be better off running the tr8 through a channel on a external mixer, and then recorded from the mixer to audio tracks on cubase? Which would also mean I would be having to chop and shift audio edits to keep beats in sync
Can anyone explain to me how come on 13.57, when the decay of the OH is all the way open, some lit up knobs on the sequencer still produce a one with a short decay? Been trying to fix this but I see it's exactly the same in this tutorial for some reason... Not all buttons play that sample and play it at the same decay the INST knob is indicating, really annoying please help!
+xavke91 i don't own one, but i'm guessing it may have something to do with either the "Accent" parameter triggering on that sequence, or, like the original 909 where you had the ability to tap 3 times on an instrument button to toggle velocity (or loudness) of that instrument when the sequencer triggers it!
Is one able to use the Tr-8 as a controller for ableton? or only to send and receive midi and audio. Specifically could I control ableton instruments and tracks with the Tr-8? It doesn't look like it, but i just wanted to check.
Don't know if you've found this answer yet, but no. If you want individual outs you'll have to use the tr-8 as the soundcard. So use its main outs while tracking/composing then when you want to get the individual outs switch the audio device. Unless you're on a mac in which case there is a way of aggregating devices, but I'm PC so you're on your own with that bit :)
Hi, I almost got everything to work except from...I don't know way but I'm not able to record the any effects like the delay or reverb. I'm using the Logic Pro x 10.5 and recording the audio. DO u know what is the reason?
***** And someone named fooljas is obviously part of that LED carnival dressed as a short fat bearded lady who resembles those special beings who live under bridges.
This is by far, the best tutorial I've seen regarding this machine.
Definitely is indeed!
I agree! 👍👍👍👏👏👏
No wasted time with this review. Great balance of verbal and visual explanations.
This is the best tutorial vid I have seen. Its nice to find a vid that explains how to get in to the features. Thanks Guys
yeah…its good
I agree. this was a cleverly done tutorial. slow for my old self to comprehend.. ;)
Great review, Leonard. Finally someone that knows what he is talking about, and is showing the machine as it should be shown.
Jesus those lights are manic.
Reminds me of an 80s pinball machine.
Fantastic unit. So much fun!
Really good tutorial. This guy explains things exceptionally well.
Thank you for providing an excellent introduction to drum machines and this product.
I am about to receive my TR-8. That's going to be a nice addition to my original TR-machines (909, 808, 727 and 707).
Thank you very much for this video. You explained the TR-8 very well.
First of all!
THANK YOU FOR THIS NICE TOTURIAL FOR TR8!

Michael Parker how did that go for you?
@@ChesttRockkwell he sold it for heroin and he is now dead
John Hinnighan What a life to live...
Did you get the machine? If so, what do you think of it?
Any idea how to get the tr8 to sound MORE ass-kicking and less clean?

Pan Croque sample based drums ?

I got the 09. I wanted to use it on the subway!
Does it send midi data from the knobs and sliders?
Can you use this with a digitech looper pedal, so you could use this drum machine as your metronome to record your loop, then play back the loop and use the tr live with the loop in time together.?
why do all the reviewers touch the small knobs like they are really hot to the touch?
I don't know. Everyone seems to do it. Its really annoying.
I think it's an affectation they all copy which helps them to believe they're musicians creating art, regardless of whether that's the case. It's much like the "guitar solo" face you see guitarists and wannabe guitarists use, regardless of whether they're any good.
Fuad Hossain
Yep agree with you, so annoying!
it's really easy to bump other knobs...this helps not do that for some reason
now i cant watch this anymore
nice vid mate help me so much thank you :)

Is there a way to save the patterns you create??
Good tutorial
I've actually managed to invert the timbrality on this thing by hooking it up to par.
Can you use the Tr8 without the sequencer thing running, so like tapping the buttons for the drum sounds? In conjunction with a looping machine.
oh yeah question answered, cheers
for sure
I've got octatrack mk2 and it's much, much more exciting
And expensive
+Kosmic IMO you have made your voice through audiotune, am I right? When voice constatly goes ups and downs it is through audiotune 100%
good video thanks, helped me out as I cant find the manual anywhere in the Roland website, anyone know how to get ones mits on it?
They don't do a comprehensive one but Roland Australia have some good tips if you Google you'll find it.
Hey, thanks for the tutorial. But you never mentioned the Analog against Virtual Analog here, am I right ?
so epic
BTW. YESSS. ITS VERRRRY INTERESTING ALL THE ,, TRIIIIIII ,SOUNDS. EXCITING!!!!!

its sort of like you need to guess or remember what sound is on what pad when selecting
Hi! When i m connecting midi out to my juno 106, Tr8 sends midi notes as it plays, is there a way to deactivate this? thanks
Awesome review. I'm often left disappointed when new gear is reviewed by guys with 'retro' approach..
11:55 "excuse me, do you f as well as you dance"
I still hear. Hi. Hats. Till up. Twenty. Minutes. In this videooo. ... dammmmn....
What cables? balanced or unbalanced?
Up to 11:11'...accept from the metronome. , but does it make. Sounds,too????.....'
Is one able to use the Tr-8 as a controller for ableton? or only to send and receive midi and audio. Specifically could I control ableton instruments and tracks with the Tr-8? It doesn't look like it, but i just wanted to check.
***** the MX-1 will. soon to be released in march-ish...
Yes.
With external gear such as a padkontrol or beatstep can I record individual sounds while a sequence is playing?
Can I run extra shit through the tr8 and use it as an interface of sorts? I have a midi controller and a synth module i wanna use with this and my daw
how does it works with logic x ? cheers
Is it possible to use another audio sound card and at the same time have all the inputs from the tr8?
Don't know if you've found this answer yet, but no. If you want individual outs you'll have to use the tr-8 as the soundcard.
So use its main outs while tracking/composing then when you want to get the individual outs switch the audio device.

The audio signal path bypasses the Efx if you're channeling audio through usb or individual outs!
I have a question, that t might sound obvious, can you import your own samples into the machine? Can it work as a midi controller?
No and yes.
MaaaaaaaaAAAAANNNTRONIX
This machine have individual outputs?
He doesn't show us the back connections.
So I guess Propellerhead modeled redrum after the original
3:48 voice crack
is there a way to save and recall your work on the machine itself?
Jai Kumar no there isn't
Hi ,does this machine has conga sound ?
looks like a damn carnival, man and machine.
king shaman Yeah, because someone named "king shaman" is obviously all about seriousness, proper dressing, and business.
***** And someone named fooljas is obviously part of that LED carnival dressed as a short fat bearded lady who resembles those special beings who live under bridges.
You must be a lot of fun at parties.
Ok now Im getting frustrated why am i only getting bass drum, no snares or any other instrument, please help
You've probably muted the other instruments.
Hello. how did you record all the tracks together?
Are you outputting each sound to a different track in Ableton there?
Jan Modaal why?
Is your throat dirty or is the microphone distorting???
Do you think about mens' throats often?
Can you choon the 808 cowbell?
Yes.
Great tutorial. Shame the camera operator had been on the beers!
Cool hair💂
don t get why they haven t made a plugin with it...for automation...
The ride is not an original 808 sound. Its more likely taken from a 909.
T. h.orsten The TR-8 features both ;)
I'm gettingTR8 fell in love with it the moment I heard it.Such a versatile and great sounding drum machine.Perfect for live and studio uses.
Ooooh. 16 part. Like. Alll. Drumkits on the. Whole. ..?world and other brands?????....../hmmmmmh. Interesting!!
Really big and no song mode (!!?!?!)
Other than that is cool and very good demo.
