What Spells Should the HeroQuest Elf Take? Spell Review and Strategic Analysis for Solo Play

    That first spell you mentioned, Flashback. That's my kind of spell.
    Well, add Slow and Timestop also.. Apparently I'd be rolling a time mage. And yeah, Timestop would be worth with a party.

    Earth spells are the best of the original four elements. You got an healing spell, that's never bad. A spell for added defense and a spell to explore other spots of the map, just make sure you never end your movement in an unknown space and it's great with a potion of speed.

    How would you choose, if you play in a full group of 4 players?
    If you would take any elf spells, which spells would you choose?
    In case you take elf spells, which spells would you choose as a wizard?

      As a wizard, I normally pick fire (for 2 attack spells in case I need to defend myself) & then I choose between water & earth (To maximize heals) based on what the elf didn't take after I chose fire.
      Air may have the amazing big damage genie spell but my primary role as a wizard is to back up the party & to mostly avoid direct combat. I'd rather have 2 attack spells & maximize the party's overall healing abilities then have 1 big killing spell (killing is primarily everyone else's job)
      So in the event the Elf chooses elf spells or there is no elf, I'm taking fire, water, & earth. Actually, the fact that the elf likely knows I'm going to insure both healing spells are taken & as they don't need the genie or fire spells as they can use a crossbow it gives the elf room to experiment with elf spells without hindering the overall party.

    Yeah, with other heroes and especially with an equipped Elf (ie: with some stashed potions already, including healing) he can go for the Elf specials. I've considered an upgrade for the Elf after enough quests are complete where he gets a bonus spell to go with the three he picked before, and here he could get a chance to sample from the Elf deck with the bonus spell each quest.

      My group gives the wizard all 12 wizard spells and the elf can use all of the elf spells.
      Most of the elf spells are fairly worthless for most quests, more are highly situational or turn order dependant, and the others you would just always take anyway, so it gives the elf the option to use spells that they otherwise wouldn't ever take.
