I too have bought vanford with defects brand new out of the box. I greased the drag with your super sticky grease and its so much smoother. Lastly, your jig heads make hookups on the larvas effortless on my south texas bluegill.

@i_fish yea I was surprised they didn't bend out! I have bigger jigheads that have bent on smaller fish, too much torque, the small hook def aids in strength. No real issues with hookset either. Now If I could find some of your old reels laying around.....lolol
they don't EVER bend, but there comes a point when they will snap, so definitely don't try to horse fish with them. But i had same experience just this saturday - lost a 4 lb smallmouth that i fought for several minutes, but at the end the hook completely bent out and let him go. It was a daiwa gekkabijin tungsten, that i reviewed a few months ago. These jigs never bend, and the tip remains 100% sharp to the end. Even if u snag - still sharp!

Try to wind both reels (the Airity and Vanquish) together with a complete rod + line and lure on a fishing spot. You will find the resistance in the Airity can be ignored and Airity is smoother than the vanquish.
No. The Resistance in the Airity CANNOT be ignored! Even after 12 months of casual fishing its there! If you twitch 1 gram jig its unbearable. If you just roll swimbaits, you can live with it.

A small hack to make this reel much much smoother. Put Stella main gear inside. You will get Stella smoothness because of Stella main gear coating. For 1000SSSPG you will need pinion, main gear and micromodule piece that touches pinion gear. For other models you only need main gear. I did this with my Vanquish reel.
Just two drops on the handle bearings with Shimano SSR-01 light oil,without disassemble,and every new recently purchased reel will be amazing. Low inertia resistance very much improved,even my recently purchased Complex XR,Cardiff Ci4+,Vanford. I have done this, and,Shimano reels have an upper hand in the small sizes over Daiwa every time.But no more than one drop on each side, because it will have louder sound and some micro plays.All the best!
Great Video Vic! I recieved my 23' C2000S and C2000SHG. The first thing I noticed (out of the box) was the inertia was not as fluid easy as the 19' model's. I don't know if it's the new gearing or grease. Both of mine are plenty smooth, drag sound better than the 19' and the line lay is impeccable. I spooled them up and went casting and the line management is great. The C2000S WiLL be my new panfish and Trout reel and the C2000SHG is going to replace my 22' Stella for shear weight alone. 5.2 vs. 6.2 for the Stella. With that said, if you already own the 19' in these models don't blow $425 bucks on the 23'. It's just not much of an upgrade, if any. This new reel did not blow me away in smoothness and the inertia is more on the 23' than the 19'.

Interested to see the difference between the 1000 and 2000, a lot of people aren't that impressed with this reel so far in terms of the ultralight aspect, it seems it's become a better reel in the normal sense, but less special in the ultralight sense 🤔. I might hold off for a while to see if any issues show themselves (ptsd from the 22 Stella lol) and for your comparison of the 1000 and 2000, interesting this reel still isn't super impressive with such a small rotor and PG ratio, I hope the C2000S isn't too much different as that's my favourite size reel and probably the one I would pick, but we will see.
@@ifishcatfish I stated strictly in terms of ultralight finesse, pretty much everyone agrees it's not as finesse orientated as the 2019, still an amazing finesse reel just clearly more towards the strength side of things than the previous reel was. Soooo many people with both are saying it, heck people in your own comments are too, go read the comments of any Japanese review video and see how many people are disappointed in its ultralight feel, again I personally think it's a better actual reel, but it is less finesse, to me that's perfectly fine. I like the looks of that reel as well, it actually looks better than the 19 model from what I can tell from your video. The comparison to the C2000 should be interesting.
This vanquish 2023 is built with tougher gears, which is similar Engineering to Stella 22 gears, therefore the winding feel is slightly heavier or I would say it lays towards core solid series. The MGL series personality has gone in this vanquish 2023. If you want a MGL personality or a super light winding feel, go for Vanquish 19, it is still the produce that reflect the image of MGL series the best.
why the hell would they do that to the most finesse reel they have? It feels like Vanford gears to me, exactly the same dry feel. Stella feels smooth like glass

The thing is, some Vanfords are GODDAMPERFECT! I have a vanford that is so good that there is no need for Vanquish. That's why i keep buying more, and return all of them. Most of them have issues. But if you go to Japan, and buy from a store in Japan, they are good. But the ones they ship outside, suck.
I wanted to get this reel in the 2500hgs model for trout. I want to hear Duluth opinions. Should I spend the extra $150 to get the Stella? The most expensive reels I’ve fished with so far are the vanford and stradic fl. I feel like I love my vanford because it has such light start up inertia, and the weight. However, the stradic fl is by far the smoothest reel I’ve fished. However it’s much heavier than the vanford and has a heavier start up inertia. So saying all that, I want to know what you recommend. Also, I’m a Shimano guy. I have quite a few diawas, but I like shimanos feel better. Thanks 😊
This kinda makes my decision on the new exist super finesse a lot easier. Daiwa supposedly made some changes to that reel for a more finesse approach. I never fished the 19 vanquish but everyone that I know who has described how outworldy feeling it was. They have the exact same reaction as you do with the new vanquish so maybe something about the new gears? Not sure if there is a break in period for reels either to explain why that is. I have the stella in that model and yes its amazing. One big thing though is that after one season of fishing it after a certain rotation I do feel a bit of a grind at a specific spot which is weird because my vanford 500 2 years now and still fishes like new ish. Normal people probably wouldn't care but if you are really into how a reel feels it definitely will bother you.
I would jump the big money for a stella if they had a 150 gram model. But that weight is a bit much for my rods. Perhaps they did that on purpose, so not to cannobalize the sales if the vanquish
@i_fish the 1000 sspg stella Japan model wieghs 158 grams I have it and it doesn't feel that much heavier than the new vanquish and it balances on my ultralight Phenix "iron feather" rod perfectly u should give it a try

I got my 23 Vanquish a few weeks ago in a 2500 size. It feels fine when reeling, but when turning the handle extremely slowly there is a tough spot. No grinding, no extra noise, just extra resistance like there is a big blob of grease in one spot. Is this something that goes away after some use and break-in?
the risks from buying from Japan. This reel shouldn't have tough spots. But i know what you are talking about. That's why in the video i said that my reel may not be quiet, but at least there are no scratches or tough spots anywhere..
@@ifishcatfish I maybe got lucky. I have 3 c2000s vanquish 23, no resistance. Amazing drag. Im a trout area angler, i think those are the best reels I ever fished with.
@@RightWay91 Nobody has reported issues with the resistance of the reel. It just doesn't feel as nice as the Stella, or even Daiwa's airity. Your 2000 models have the same 1000 body as the reel in this video, but you have 40 mm handle. My reel has 35mm handle, to spin the same weight. Applying law of leverage, you will feel 15% less resistance than me just due to the longer handle. I put a 40 mm handle on my reel last night and improvement was remarkable.
@@RightWay91 I like the 40mm handle with the smaller knobs Shimano put on the C2000S vs. the 19'. You get a 1000 size body with a larger diameter spool, more line capacity, faster line pick-up and better line management. Definitely my new Panfish/Trout reel for sure!
i really don't know. Believe it or not, i don't know the capacity of any reel, not even one. It doesn't matter to me so i don't even bother to look it up on the box. In general it is better to look such specs on manufacturer website yourself and make sure you use the recommended line. 4 lb might be a little too thick, and if it is, it will affect the line lay.
Hello Victor. Very nice video. Congrats. The 23 Vanquish 2500 sizes' drive gear is increased to 32mm compared to 19 Vanquish version, which has 30mm. Could we see the same incresed size of drive gear on the snaller sizes as well, from 28mm to 30mm? It would be awesome to have more cranking power in these smaller reels.
bigger gear doesn't give u more cranking power though. Smaller gear gives u more cranking power. I know its counter intuitive, but thats how gear ratios work..
@@ifishcatfish Well I'm using mostly spinnerbaits for trout fishing and sometimes I feel that the 2000 size is not enough even for smaller size #2 Smith spinners. The 2500 model on the other hand has no problem dealing with with them. I would give a try to the new c2500s size Vanquish, but only if the drive gear size has been increased, at least a bit.
@@rojomak2422 no no no.. im talking about something else. If you want more power, you want lower gear ratio. If you want lower gear ratio, you want smaller main gear. Not talking about size of reel. Same reel, with same pinion inside, will be more powerful with a smaller main gear.
Just got one and I am dissapointed a lot.. C2500S.. Even my 2019 is much better than 2023 I got.. There is a lot of loosness inside the reel so when you are working light soft lure you feel looseness inside and alsom hear noises because of looseness.. Is it the same with your reel or it is just bad piece I bought?
I dont know how much money u make and what u like. I just said that vanquish is the best ultralight reel but not the best saltwater reel. If u must have absolute best stella is it. But even stradic FL would be good enough for that
@ ifish, I put a dura-alumium cog from ios factory on my 19 vanquish c2000s w/titanium line roller &/ceramic bearings. The drag performance & sound is amazingly improved. I fished all of last year taking 1,000's of casts. Catching big walleyes on 5-7mm crankbaits on 4lb-mono using Shimano Soare X-Tune 7'⁶. Since then I never had to change my line due to line twist. It was completely removed which was the first time in my life that's ever happened. Also replace handle with a Dlive dura aluminum handle that weighs 10grams compared to the 20+gram Shimano handle.

hi, i don't comment on these things, as i dont understand the actual rules. I can share my experience, but then if someone gets some other experience, its kind of my fault. I will say this, if you are worring about import fees, it is not a good idea to order from japan, because there are bigger risks than that. If something happens to that reel you are in a bad spot. I would only order from japan if i can afford to lose it without too much stress.

@@ryan26i why don't you just check the shimano website? Everyone puts different amount of line on these reels. Only shimano can tell u how much it can fit. Never ask people for statistics you can grab from the official source because people will get them wrong most of the time.
Now im slapping myself for not buying the old one since I thought the tech incorporated on the new Vanquish will be a big improvement. But still I can say for my end having a Vanquish for the first time with that light rotational feel was a pleasure to use for a whole day of fishing. Glad you finally got yours Victor 👍

that's been a mystery for me. I have never touched that reel, but i have touched the most expensive one and was totally unimpressed. Even he actually, if u watch his reviews, mentions that it does not compete with high end daiwa and shimano. How does it compete with Vanford and Luvias though, is the question, because they are same price. And my gues is that it compares unfavorably.

Daiwa Airity looks and feel much better then this Vanquish. I dont know why Shimano keeps making ugly reels. I was Shimano user all the time but lately shifting to Daiwa. The only Shimano reel that i love and keep using is the twin power FD.

Shimano is not as good as it is anymore. Just a name stamped. No really new technology, and went to small gears. My brand new vanquish just got damaged fighting an 21 inch stripper. My 2022 daiwa exist is way superior. Bigger gears, ultra smooth, super balanced reel, premium quality components, well engineered.
i landed a 20 lb buffalo with my 1000 size Vanquish. Check my channel 5 or 6 videos back. Then i landed a 20 lb catfish. Then i landed 100 bass. All with the 1000 size. I don't think u had the 1000 size, probably 3000, if i had to bet, judging by the way you sound. If this really happened, serious user error was involved.

does the c2000s has felt drag washer Sir? or Carbontex? Saw c2000s from other youtubers and the drag sound is like a complex xr😬

@i_fish the 1000 sspg stella Japan model wieghs 158 grams I have it and it doesn't feel that much heavier than the new vanquish and it balances on my ultralight Phenix "iron feather" rod perfectly u should give it a try

@@ifishcatfish vanquish will be my 3rd reel😅 I bought complex because of your review plus i like the look than vanfords and of course my budget, I will get vanquish over airity because of some stella features specially the slow oscillation, I think Daiwa airity is a bit behind in upgrades.

I got my 23 Vanquish a few weeks ago in a 2500 size. It feels fine when reeling, but when turning the handle extremely slowly there is a tough spot. No grinding, no extra noise, just extra resistance like there is a big blob of grease in one spot. Is this something that goes away after some use and break-in?
the risks from buying from Japan. This reel shouldn't have tough spots. But i know what you are talking about. That's why in the video i said that my reel may not be quiet, but at least there are no scratches or tough spots anywhere..
@@ifishcatfish I maybe got lucky. I have 3 c2000s vanquish 23, no resistance. Amazing drag. Im a trout area angler, i think those are the best reels I ever fished with.
@@RightWay91 Nobody has reported issues with the resistance of the reel. It just doesn't feel as nice as the Stella, or even Daiwa's airity. Your 2000 models have the same 1000 body as the reel in this video, but you have 40 mm handle. My reel has 35mm handle, to spin the same weight. Applying law of leverage, you will feel 15% less resistance than me just due to the longer handle. I put a 40 mm handle on my reel last night and improvement was remarkable.

@@RightWay91 I like the 40mm handle with the smaller knobs Shimano put on the C2000S vs. the 19'. You get a 1000 size body with a larger diameter spool, more line capacity, faster line pick-up and better line management. Definitely my new Panfish/Trout reel for sure!

i really don't know. Believe it or not, i don't know the capacity of any reel, not even one. It doesn't matter to me so i don't even bother to look it up on the box. In general it is better to look such specs on manufacturer website yourself and make sure you use the recommended line. 4 lb might be a little too thick, and if it is, it will affect the line lay.
Hello Victor. Very nice video. Congrats. The 23 Vanquish 2500 sizes' drive gear is increased to 32mm compared to 19 Vanquish version, which has 30mm. Could we see the same incresed size of drive gear on the snaller sizes as well, from 28mm to 30mm? It would be awesome to have more cranking power in these smaller reels.
bigger gear doesn't give u more cranking power though. Smaller gear gives u more cranking power. I know its counter intuitive, but thats how gear ratios work..
@@ifishcatfish Well I'm using mostly spinnerbaits for trout fishing and sometimes I feel that the 2000 size is not enough even for smaller size #2 Smith spinners. The 2500 model on the other hand has no problem dealing with with them. I would give a try to the new c2500s size Vanquish, but only if the drive gear size has been increased, at least a bit.
@@rojomak2422 no no no.. im talking about something else. If you want more power, you want lower gear ratio. If you want lower gear ratio, you want smaller main gear. Not talking about size of reel. Same reel, with same pinion inside, will be more powerful with a smaller main gear.
Just got one and I am dissapointed a lot.. C2500S.. Even my 2019 is much better than 2023 I got.. There is a lot of loosness inside the reel so when you are working light soft lure you feel looseness inside and alsom hear noises because of looseness.. Is it the same with your reel or it is just bad piece I bought?

@ ifish, I put a dura-alumium cog from ios factory on my 19 vanquish c2000s w/titanium line roller &/ceramic bearings. The drag performance & sound is amazingly improved. I fished all of last year taking 1,000's of casts. Catching big walleyes on 5-7mm crankbaits on 4lb-mono using Shimano Soare X-Tune 7'⁶. Since then I never had to change my line due to line twist. It was completely removed which was the first time in my life that's ever happened. Also replace handle with a Dlive dura aluminum handle that weighs 10grams compared to the 20+gram Shimano handle.

hi, i don't comment on these things, as i dont understand the actual rules. I can share my experience, but then if someone gets some other experience, its kind of my fault. I will say this, if you are worring about import fees, it is not a good idea to order from japan, because there are bigger risks than that. If something happens to that reel you are in a bad spot. I would only order from japan if i can afford to lose it without too much stress.

@@ryan26i why don't you just check the shimano website? Everyone puts different amount of line on these reels. Only shimano can tell u how much it can fit. Never ask people for statistics you can grab from the official source because people will get them wrong most of the time.

that's been a mystery for me. I have never touched that reel, but i have touched the most expensive one and was totally unimpressed. Even he actually, if u watch his reviews, mentions that it does not compete with high end daiwa and shimano. How does it compete with Vanford and Luvias though, is the question, because they are same price. And my gues is that it compares unfavorably.

Shimano is not as good as it is anymore. Just a name stamped. No really new technology, and went to small gears. My brand new vanquish just got damaged fighting an 21 inch stripper. My 2022 daiwa exist is way superior. Bigger gears, ultra smooth, super balanced reel, premium quality components, well engineered.
i landed a 20 lb buffalo with my 1000 size Vanquish. Check my channel 5 or 6 videos back. Then i landed a 20 lb catfish. Then i landed 100 bass. All with the 1000 size. I don't think u had the 1000 size, probably 3000, if i had to bet, judging by the way you sound. If this really happened, serious user error was involved.
