WOW it has changed since last time on Virgin from Shanghai was they had own lounge on the lower ground - it was when they flew A340 and then they gave not only Upper Class amenity classes and Premium Economy and Economy with the cute rubber duck. Also they gave champagne as a pre-take off drink. OK this was 14 years ago and then they had hair dressers in the lounge in Heathrow. Great lovely lounge wear still use today
Wow that sounds like a whole different airline! Back to the days of the A340 are a distant dream now… I quite like the idea of a rubber duck (Lufthansa first ?) and a pre departure champers would really elevate the whole thing ! Thanks for watching :)
Really enjoying these videos on your channel! I was searching for videos showing BA economy to see what it’s like long haul and came across the Christmas flight you did to Singapore a year ago. Couldn’t help but have a further look on your channel as I really like how you documented the experience. Great work! 😄
@@JTsJourneys Another big benefit is that premium economy is rewarded with higher rates for points and tiers. It was my personal favourite for low cost status flight runs. Especially on long haul routes. You would need more flights but that wasn’t an issue for me.
That's an interesting review, VA Premium is a nice place to be. My last VA flight was in Upper Class from JFK to LHR, the crew had definitely lost their spark. Has VA lost their wow factor?
Interesting that you felt the same. I put it down to the flight being the longest on the network, everything started off great but anything in the 2nd part of the flight felt like a chore
Another superb and very comprehensive trip review. I particularly like your on screen graphics which really help to highlight the differences between premium economy and economy. The flight was all going well until the second meal service! Such a shame as in terms of quantity and presentation it was so poor compared to the first service. I wonder if this is the norm or was the incorrect catering loaded at Shanghai and the crew tried to cover it up? Finally, i'm surprised you never read the inflight magazine. As an avgeek I love looking at the route maps and information about the fleet. There are often interesting articles written by flight crew too.
The route map is about all id look at (plus any fleet details!) the virgin fleets is fairly simple anyway these days so not much in there for me! I just feel the 1st meal was on point and the rest were just an after thought. Agree it all went well until then… mainly the final meal for me that was a let down. Unsure if it was an incorrect catering problem as they didn’t mention anything. Would be helpful if someone in the comments could help us there
I suspect this is a pre announcement to the one at Farnborough next week where they’ll order a330neos to replace their 787s, not sure the 330neos can reach Shanghai with the current Russia avoidance routes
@@JTsJourneys Possibly. So far VS has made no official announcement to UK media. But reported by Bloomberg HKG and flight inventory now removed from the VS site. I would have thought the 330neos had the range but maybe I am wrong.
I expect so! Reduced competition is good on the route. From what I hear the yields were quite low so should boost BA. The Russia avoidance will impact them too though especially when competing with the Chinese carriers who can shave 2-3 hours off a one way by taking the great circle routing
Great review mate, please keep up the excellent work! You are right up there with the top guys like Sam Choi etc . . . .
Thanks for the great comment! Plenty more filmed I just need to find the time to put them together!

i flew on this route in 2017 and 19, soo sad Virgin is stopping flights to Shanghai, one of the best airlines i've ever flown with. Salute to Virgin!!
I’ve only flown them on this trip (outside of little red which was top tier!) would love to try them again
Great detailed review!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it :)

Thanks ! Appreciate the sub :) more to come :)
Great video. I’m sitting in seat 25K when I fly to Vegas in a couple of weeks so this was really good to see what it’s like to sit in that seat. 👍👍👍
Thank you! Have a great trip to Vegas!
really great review.... enjoyed it, and tells me a lot more than other reviewers... well done.. and thanks, think I will upgrade my Virgin flight.
Thanks! Really appreciate your comment. It’s great when my experience can help yours :) have a great flight
Brilliant video. Flying in these exact seats to SFO soon.
Thank you! Enjoy your trip to SFO
One of the perks of premium economy is an additional 23Kg checked bag, which is great if you are bringing back gifts.
That hadn’t even crossed my mind but totally agree! We were only away for a week so our bags were under packed enough to fit many many gifts in

The other plus is you can earn points and tiers on reward bookings too unlike BA
@@JTsJourneys Yes the lack of tier points on reward flights is a big failure from BA.
Great review.

10:44 did you take the shakers as a souvenir?
Pride of place at home now …
Hey Jamie, hope you are having a nice day, but where did you get the seat maps from at 4:26? Thank you
Hey, the seat maps are from aerolopa.com
@@JTsJourneys Thank you very much!
Sad this route will end in a few days 😢😢😢, are you gonna document it???
I won't be back on it unfortunately. I've just cancelled a planned trip through Shanghai on BA later in the year too.
@@JTsJourneys OK 👍
Do they have self check in KIOSK in Pudong airport? Has anyone used it?
I didn’t see any to use for Virgin
If no bags you can check in via the virgin app and bypass the check in area
Today (July 16) VS says it will axe this route effective October 25.

@@JTsJourneys Maybe. Until now VS in the UK has not issued an official statement. Bloomberg HKG carrying the news (latest I heard).
They have just suspended the LHR to PVG service... BA will be happy..er

One reason not to fly Virgin terrible better airlines for sure very low cost
I thought it was alright. Certainly good value for what I paid
Who else is better? They are easily the best on transatlantic services, the state BA is in.
Beautiful videos thank you.#World Traveler @madannegi
