Don’t panic. The paint job you see on this Audi isn’t something you will be able to get from you local dealer when this car goes on sale at the end of 2023. The reason for the gaudy Audi wrapping is to indicate that this is a prototype. And while we are used to getting early drives of new cars, this Q6 is especially interesting. It is the first car to use a collection of parts which will underpin a lot of posh new electric models from Audi and Porsche. Maybe even a Bentley.
The Q6 is the same underneath as the new Porsche Macan and the all-electric A6. This is the first chance we’ve had to try this slice of the future. Audi says the bits underneath the Q6 will "redefine the industry’s benchmarks in terms of performance, range, and charging.
The Q6 name probably gives away where this car fits in the Audi line up - it’s smaller than a Q8 e-tron but bigger than the Q4. It is due to go on sale at the end of 2023 with a price I’ve been promised will start with a five. That’s going to be decent value, since a BMW iX3 starts at £64,000.
The figures we’ve seen for the Q6 make that 'redefining' claim look like a bit of an exaggeration, but the figures are certainly impressive.
Join Tom as he takes a first drive of the new Q6 e-tron in prototype form. Is the future bright for Audi's next-generation electric cars? Let us know in the comments below.

Still my favourite car reviewer. Thankyou for keeping it entertaining in front of a car minder! Same barber❤
Any word on a small Q2 e-tron. Bigger is not always better 😂
I like the paint job - a bit WRC old school.
I would buy one in white and wrap it in those colours 😂 Looks great imo ❤
…I don`t know what is but You Tom really nailed it how a great review should be done 👌!! That calm talk but still with some humor touch 😂…just so great!! First time seeing You but not the last - keep this good work up!! And I totally agree - this is a great SUV but can`t wait for the A6 E tron Avant 🎉🎉!!
Another informative motoring video by Tom.
PLEASE keep those white rims, the white paint job is gorgeous
I’m also waiting on the A6 Avant E-tron…but when can we order them?
An A4 or A66 Touring is what were waiting for, so over SUVs
I hear the words ‘Audi’ and ‘SUV’ and my eyes slowly roll into the back of my head…
Yep, I feel with you.
I like the look of this Q6 a lot...In white with white wheels and black roof would work rather well.
@5:14 Could that mean we get some actual physical buttons for once? Has VW/Audi come to their senses?
Always like Audis, just am never able to afford them lol.
Looks like a great car, too bad is it taking them forever to figure out the software (like a year late!). The delay is allowing the Asian car companies offer competitive products when this finally becomes available. Also it makes a potential buyer nervous if they have figured out the software strategy, or have made it too complex for anybody to fix.
The E- MEB platform was hopelessly out of its depth even before it was off the drawing board. I suppose they can’t get any worse?
Nice
My concern with the lights is the presumably monumental repair bills if they get damaged, driving up insurance.
I hope they will offer the white wheels with the white walls on the rubber..
Oh yay. Yet another SUV. I love my 2021 etron, but I do not want another SUV and that's a large part of the reason I'm going to Polestar.
And I know, I know, they'll eventually do an A4 etron, but not soon enough in a world where the Polestar 2, BMW i4 et al exist
Please consider first China's human rights record regards the Polestar.
A bright new idea would be a respectable electric A1 and A2 - that aren't crossovers.
With ID2 on its way - an EV A1 seems likely in a couple of years.
Yes please
@@christianolsen9781No A1 in the future
I have been eyeing up a BMW i4 M50 because I live German build quality and materials, but I’ll wait and see what the facelift Tesla’s are offering. I currently have a Tesla model 3, and it’s okay, but I do wish it had a head up display, and I detest that you have to use the touch touchscreen to adjust wiper speed. That’s just a H&S nightmare because they’re pretty crap at auto-wipe.
Can’t you map wipers to the scroll wheel on the steering wheel after the recent update?
@@AutoAbsolute Thanks. Had me thinking I missed something.. so I was today years old when I learned you can map one of the buttons. Wipers isn’t an option, but I did learn if i press the washer button on the stalk, the wiper speed comes up (which I knew) … but what I didn’t know was at that point if I use the scroll wheel it will adjust the speed without using the screen. 🤷♂️😳 I’ve only been driving and cursing it two and half years 😂😂
@@thread_astaireIt's a recent update.
@@djtaylorutube checked it out and found it 👍🏼 happy with that!
And it’s yet another electric vehicle with the Quartic Steering Wheel from an early Allegro!!
I’m with you Tom, slippery low slung estimate over silly SUV all day.
looks nice hopefully Audi will work out the road noise problem. Also people stop calling it a SUV its not haha.Must be a brit thing to call cars that are bigger then the golf carts that they drive in England.
Front end lights looks like what everyone else was doing 2 years ago, who have all moved to big signature DRLs
A6 etron Avant please!
You mean an Allroad version.
@@Metal05 why not. but I miss a classic estates. that's why I keep my fingers crossed for i6 touring, but I am afraid it will be kia ev9 price point :/
Next year
Where are they?
Faroe islands :)
@@DaviJacobsen Thanks
Why o why does it need a pretend grill.
Because it is a pretend car.
Germany neends Carbeque Grill! Please I don't know why.
The grill looks really bad. Why didnt they just match it with the other bodywork?
In white I think the grill looks smart....just gives the front end a bit of character ...far better than a bland Tesla nose.
It's not a grill. It's a recognisable design item, unfortunately copied by many other manufacturers, like Citroen, DS and Hyundai.
So they let you test it in summer on an island with a 50mph limit. Almost like they did it on purpose 😉
Looks like the Faroe Islands to me
@03:09 "They have to make sure [..] I don't crash into a tree". Good luck with finding a tree on Faroe Islands :P
@@Orbit353 It was meant as a joke...🤣🤣
Faroe islands.
range is more important than oomph.
Accessibility affordability and practicality is more important
True, but once you get to 400 miles ish do people really need more?
And I don’t think it’s a case of you can’t have both. If you want less oomph and more range just get RWD one.
Claims are brilliant, Reality is harder.
Judging by thumbnail I wasn’t sure if it was a fattened up Chris Harris or Matt Leblanc. Now we have a third car uncle? 😅 💜
What we want is an A3 EV.
To all asking for smaller SUVs:
Everything lower than A4/Q4 is dead. Same for Mercedes A,B, GLA class.
Their strategy: More luxury, more profit margin
maybe. Big bigger Biggest 🙄🤷🏻♀️ Not really a better way. 🤔
Anybody else think that Audi’s PR department may have spent a bit too long watching that Barbie film?
jeaah, thats right. 😂 but not the movie finished. More bigHorse Cars aren't the right way 😂😂
Looks a lot like Hyundai kona or Santa Fe from the front.
Nothing to see here... Just another boring, bland SUV...move along folks!
If manufacturers really cared about the environment they'd focus on smaller, lighter more efficient cars. Instead we get loads of bloated suvs.
no corporations care about environment, only quarter earning
If this lives up to the range claims, it is weirdly efficient. Big doesn't mean it's thirsty.
@@Neojhun it has a giant battery to be fair
Let’s see more of the like of MGs etc with low prices high mileage vehicles.
One of the issues, us consumers want big and comfortable. You don’t find like I’ve seen in the 70s, a seven footer driving a Mini or a five footer driving a Mini😊. But we do want comfort and efficiency.
looks like a hyundai kona ev
Nope this looks far more purposeful and like a car that's not scared of corners....unlike the Kona.
That's because Hyundai bought a designer from Audi about 10 years ago.
Audi etron efficiency still not great then if it’s getting 375 miles from 100Kwh. Should really be in the 400s. Perhaps with smaller wheels and RWD only it’s better.
I was expecting more from the new VW eMotor tbh. Tesla still smashing them on efficiency.
It's not possible to buy a new Tesla RHD that's not made in China at the moment...so because of that countries atrocious human rights record I'm going for this Audi.
Forget the silly light patterns and make a range of smaller cars, estates and convertibles. Please Audi and VW, no more SUVs.
I tried talking to my local Audi dealer about choices and release date but they were either playing dumb or genuinely didnt know. The website is also only offering 'register interest' so it does not feel like a 2023 delivery proposition currently. £5??k price point...hmmm I doubt it somehow but hope I am wrong as it looks lovely and a rare example of an EV that eschews the usual obsession to look as ugly as possible....
I know it's just a prototype, but can already see Audi again putting animal skin seats inside. When do they finally learn?
Would prefer an A6 q-tron.
Nothing beats the station.
I don’t know if it’s just me but it looks a bit like a Citroën cactus especially from the front…
LOL whoever said that a bigger battery is BETTER?? Its about EFFICIENCY, getting as much range out of as little battery as possible LOL
Most electric car buyers will say a bigger battery is better. And they will continue to do so until they're confident in the charging network.
@@ElectrifyingcomErr you've still missed the point! If the car is significantly more efficient then it will achieve the same range for a smaller battery, take less time to charge and be cheaper in doing so.
The media, with it's constant hard on for focusing on battery size is doing nobody any favours here.
NOBODY ever describes the size of a fuel tank in an ICE cat, constantly trying to bigger is better. It's always about MPG.
Bigger batteries after just masking poor efficiency.
I hope it doesn"t have drumbrakes at the rear like the ID3, ID4, Q4 etc. Paying 50.000-60.000 euro for a car with drumbrakes WTF.
It has discs. But there's nothing wrong with drum brakes on an electric car. I wish my Leaf had them! Far less maintenance.
Drum brakes in the rear make a lot of sense in an ev. Most of the time, much of the braking is electric, who needs the extra cost and maintenance?
The rear discs on my i3 just end up corroding away, as they rarely get used. Drums would have been better.
Haha! Audi being good at efficiency? 😂 Audi just throws a huge battery inside so you are lying.
To not focus on efficiency is to be wasteful with resources, makes them expensive and it delays the transition to renewables.
Audi haven’t learned, they’re still keeping features that are standard on Teslas as expensive optional extras. Why should I have to “ask” the car for extra 20hp, is standing on the pedal not enough of a request for full power? 🤦🏼♂️
I think it's a boost function.
You don't have to ask for it. Just use it. You can already test it with the old E-tron.
The paintjob on this is mental, why waste all this publicity on a car that looks nothing like the ones people will buy? The Audi marketing department needs a clear out
How will they kill Elon's blue oceansssssss......????
Yet another blinking bloated Sport Utility Vehicle!! WHY? What we need is a bunch of electric vehicles that cost much less than a blinking Audi!!
Well, I _hate_ a SUV, so...
I just hope this is not the future of EVs lazy engineering not efficient just has a huge battery pack and must weigh near 2.5tonnes. Huge EVs like this need to banned or at least taxed 5x smaller ones.
Still waiting for an EV that’ll go over 450 MILES via highway driving. That’s when I’ll buy an EV. In the meantime, I have a hybrid that gets around 42mpg.
No better than a VW 2 litre diesel if you're in the US and I'm in the UK. Nothing special.
Lucid goes 500 miles at freeway speeds
