    God, I miss WCW. Back in the 90's, tribalism was a myth unless you lived in Georgia or New York. I used to watch Nitro live and record Raw on Mondays. Then I would watch Smackdown live and record Thunder on Thursdays. Then on Friday nights, we used to get together to watch ECW. It was my favourite time being a fan. The Monday after every PPV was the best because everyone at school would discuss results. I'm so happy we have options again today.

    Iyo Sky is a pale imitation of Io Shirai in Stardom. She had some incredible matches there with several people including Mayu Iwatani and Momo Watanabe. She was hailed as the second coming of Manami Toyota who is considered by many to be the greatest female wrestler of all time.
    Watching Toyota vs Aja Kong or Akira Hokuto or a few others is absolutely incredible.
    Have to say you did fairly well with pronouncing Mayu and Utami. They have never been friends and though they have crossed paths, they were never in a big feud. The two factions have been at odds since their founding, but Mayu vs Io or Kagetsu was far bigger.
    Love the El Generico reference.
    As for chemistry I would say Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat or Gargagno and Tomaso Ciampa or Okada and Omega.

    This is what the wrestling community is supposed to be like and used to be. People who all love wrestling and even have different types of wrestling that they like, and we all recommending each other matches, segments and wrestlers to want, and it expand our favorites and knowledge of the sport.
    I remember when I first saw TNA in 2011-2012 and was absolutely blow away because I never even thought another wrestling company outside of WWE even existed and I see familiar and new faces. When I saw their x division and their women having legit matches it was something I could not stop watching at the time.
    same thing when I found ROH and started watching NXT back in 2018 and now AEW. It is just fun and cool to talk about all these companies without having to see negativity.

    The competition point is so true. I do not think WWE would be as good as it is right now without AEW pushing them to make changes

    • @wozzablog
      @wozzablog 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      This is 100% true. I watched WWE for years prior to AEW and it was hit garbage. Nothing mattered, the shows were being written on the fly, the fans were disrespected and punished for paying attention. This was even more apparent when the NXT Golden Era was happening 2014-2017 when WWE proved it could put out a tight one hour of TV where everything mattered and you were rewarded for being invested.
      Since AEW appeared WWE definitely upped its game considerably on Main Roster shows. I'm glad people are enjoying it now more - but I'm too far gone and jaded to get invested back in WWE but I'm glad people watching now have a better product

    • @kelseykjarsgaard5774

      Not really getting pushed past few years. I'm surprised they got such good tv deal tbh

    • @wozzablog
      @wozzablog 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@kelseykjarsgaard5774True, Bloodline really has cooled off and WWE now seemingly just want to sign every Pacific Islander that can work.
      AEW is still consistently top 5 on cable in their time slots in the demos that matter and Live/As Live sports type content always gets a premium.
      Bear in mind also that WWE is leaving it's broadcast homes for Netflix creating a gap in scheduofor identical content that would have spurred WBD on in to offering a small premium to deal the core products before open negotiations began on those. Ancillary programming may be moving away from WBD, but AEW are making bank and that's good for the business.
      It's also not just about competition for viewers, wrestlers are also hyped for having choices.
      The last record breaking deal WWE got was when they were haemorrhaging viewers and, as a weekly narrative TV show - it was objectively awful in every way, the broadcasters believed they paid market rate and got their value out of it.

    • @Nathan-w5b2h
      @Nathan-w5b2h 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      @@kelseykjarsgaard5774 part of the reason for that is that WWE has adopted the things that made AEW stand out. You shouldn't be surprised by the TV deal. They crush most of their competition on Wednesday just like WWE does on their days. Networks don't care if they beat WWE they care that they beat their head to head comp

I've started watching everything on wwe network in chronological order, starting with starrcade 1983 and I'm currently halfway through 1985. Just had a random idea hearing you talk about how you think some matches go too long just for the sake of being long. You're free to ignore or take it, it doesn't really matter to me one way or the other since I'm not tally tier. Basically I thought that one way to insentivise people to request more than primarily super long matches would be to make it so that you can request 2 matches or promos if they're both below X length. Let's say both either below 20, 15, 10 minutes or something, whatever limit one chooses. Because I feel like some might be requesting super long matches to maximize their monthly request. I think more people would request promos too, since promos tend to be much shorter than matches.

Not that it was bad, per se... but both wrestlers had No Selling as a KEY COMPONENT of their gimmick, and both wrestlers no sold everything, right up until the Warrior pinned Undertaker, and even then Undertaker kinda came right up after the three. In AEW though, the House all, Busaiko knee, Shatter Machine, Hidden Blade, Tiger Driver, One Winged Angel and Buckshot Lariat are either generally or entirely protected. For that in ring chemistry question I have to say HHH and Shawn Michaels. I haven't seen many of their matches together, but the ones I have seen they flow so well, and it never seems like they ever have to communicate about something well in the ring.

    I think people confuse signature moves for an individual wrestler with finisher moves.
    For example, will ospreay signatures are the hidden blade and the oscutter and he can possibly win with those moves, but those moves in particular are not his finishers but are signatures. His finishers are Stormbreaker and Tigerdriver 91, which he calls stormdriver 93. The stormbreaker witch is my favorite finisher in all of wrestling. But he can't hit it all the time because it can aggravate his shoulder witch he says he has hole in a certian part of shoulder if im not mistaken.
    Witch is why he hits the hidden blade and stormdriver more often. i would like to think aew protects finishers more so then wwe does but i could be wrong. I know one of the most protected finishers in all of wrestling is kenny omega's 'one winged angel'. The only person to ever kick out of it was kota ibushi if my memory serves me correctly.
    i remember when cody did three cross roads on kevin owens to put him away and i didnt particularly like that bc i felt and still feel like three cross roads should be reserved for individuals that you need to pull out all the stops and more to put them tf away. Individuals like brock or omos or reed or strowman. Not to say k.o is not a threat but not a big or huge enough threat for you to feel the need to do three cross roads. Idk thats just me.

    PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE WATCH IYO SKY IN JAPAN! Her match against Utami Hiyashishita from this year's Marigold Summer Destiny (can get a free week trial to Wrestle Universe and watch it for free on there) is a perfect jumping off point just to see how awesome she still really is to this day. Although it will make you wish WWE would allow her to go a little harder in the ring (although as good as the WWE women's division is currently they most likely wouldn't be able to keep up with full speed Iyo). Watching WWE Iyo is like watching Iyo at 70-80% speed (although she's still my absolute favorite in that promotion). Just a monster of a wrestler in Japan. Still a living legend there. If you want something from earlier than this year you can go back to her years in Stardom. Her trilogy against Mayu Iwatani is just such great in ring storytelling and I think you'd really enjoy it (not to mention you might have never seen Mayu wrestle and just like Iyo she's one of the legit GOATs in this profession).

    • @trevorscheer7544
      @trevorscheer7544 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Damn, I REALLY should've watched the whole video before commenting, realizing that you talk about a Mayu vs. Utami match ROFLMAO so even better if you already know a bit of those two. Btw, pronunciation on both was honestly pretty good. You got Mayu's perfectly. For Utami, instead of "she" twice it's "shh" twice. High-Yuh-Shh-Shh-Tuh.

    • @trevorscheer7544
      @trevorscheer7544 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      And I guess while I'm here, I might as well give you some background on the trilogy and the Utami match. Basically, Iyo Sky (know as Io Shirai in Stardom), Kairi Zane (know as Kairi Hojo in Stardom) and Mayu Iwatani were known as the "three daughters of Stardom", christened that because of how close they were with the booker and founder of Stardom Rossy Ogawa (who now owns, runs, and books Marigold) and because of how important they all were to the growth of Stardom. If not for those three, we probably don't have a Stardom today. Iyo and Mayu were the closest of friends and basically sisters (to be honest in real life they still basically are as well) in a storyline sense before Iyo betrayed Mayu and created probably the most important Joshi faction of all time, Queen's Quest. Iyo being this super cocky, arrogant heel that abandoned Mayu simply because she didn't see her as being in her league, all the while Mayu being the epitome of an underdog babyface going against the tyrannical, overly confident (but rightfully so) heel in Iyo. Such good stuff.
      As for the Utami match, it is much simpler. Utami's favorite wrestler and main reason she became a pro wrestler was Io Shirai. She joined Stardom with the goal of facing Io in the ring. The only problem was Io got signed by the WWE and reported to NXT a month prior to Utami making her pro wrestling debut. That was in 2018. Utami went on to be known as the "super rookie" and basically had the greatest rookie year in Stardom ever. Most joshi rookies don't win much if any matches at all their first year and Utami was seen as so good she was winning titles in her first few months with the company. She became their main champion by age 21 and quite possibly had the most important joshi pro wrestling match of all time against Syuri (which if you haven't seen, you probably should check out as well). Dave Meltzer (notorious for not super loving women's wrestling) gave it 5 1/2 stars and that got a ton of new eyes on Stardom. After this, she became the leader of Queen's Quest (the faction that Io started) and defended her faction in that 6 v. 6 cage match you mentioned. But Rossy was fired by Stardom at the end of 2023 for trying to poach wrestlers for her new company he was in the process of starting, Marigold; and Utami left Stardom at the beginning of 2024 to go be Rossy's Ace in his new promotion. At their second Korakuen Hall show (basically a big non PPV show) after Utami won her main event match, Rossy told her he found an opponent for her at the PPV and Iyo popped up on the screen to cut a promo and make the match official after a month or so of speculation. You should DEFINITELY find this moment too as it is awesome to watch Utami's dream of wrestling Iyo come to reality in real time with Utami's real life very shocked and super happy reaction to it. Either she's the best actor, or she wasn't told beforehand. I prefer the latter. The match was between the best two Queen's Quest leaders in the history of the faction, a week after Queen's Quest had been disbandoned in Stardom. Quite poetic timing honestly.

    I've been a wrestling fan for a LONG time. Lapsed for some time. Before more recently I only really watched WWF/E. Didn't even watch WCW back in the day (did play their game/s though).
    This video popped up for me today and then I went and watched some of your other videos. I've had the idea of going back and watching a bunch of matches but have never gotten around to it. This has inspired me to actually start making a list and watching. I might actually sign up to your patreon and check out what you've been watching.

    i love that more ppl like wrestling nowadays no matter the promotion. Please like what you like 😊. The more wrestling fans we have, the better and healthier the industry is as a whole. I do wish some wrestling fans were more positive and open-minded to different approaches and styles instead of this one way, fits all mindset, but it what it is.
    With saying that, i have tried, but i just can't seem to watch wwe anymore. Witch makes me sad bc i grew up with it. I can't seem to enjoy it now, and it feels like a choir when I do try to watch it, unfortunately 😔 and ppl say it hot rn so i try to keep up with it. I like the talent, but I just can't connect with wwe programming currently. I find it to be too polished, glossy even, and the wrestling in itself leaves me more to be desired. Now I understand that no promotion is perfect and all wrestling organizations have their strengths and weaknesses and all comes down to preference and all art is subjective and pro wrestling is a art form and their is no right or wrong way to make art, art is expressive and self explanatory and subjective.
    But for whatever reason, these days I find myself enjoyin' aew, njpw, cmll, stardom, indie scene so on and so forth. I used lovee the black and gold brand of nxt, but this current iteration not so much.
    if ppl enjoy wwe all the power to them, and I'm glad they enjoy it, truly. At times, im even envious because i want to like it too, just like everyone else. But when i try to and believe me. i really have tried to. I just can't. a friend of mine who is a wwe fan would watch a wwe structured match, and it moves him, and when i watch it, it doesn't do the same for me. Witch bums me out bc im the type that wants to like everything. I like marvel and dc, i like playstation and xbox, i like game of thrones and lord of the rings. so i be askin' myself why cant i connect with this ?

Her Dark Side Of The Ring episode hit my heart just the right way, and knowing that what she wanted so badly out of women's wrestling was A)a FAR CRY from what women's wrestling was during the Attitude Era, and B)a near perfect fit for what women's wrestling is now.

    I feel like we already basically had MJF in the Attitude Era and his name was Chris Jericho. Their characters aren't exactly the same, but it is a very similar chickenshit heel type character and even when it comes to size and physique they are very similar. So MJF would have been given the same role as Jericho of an upper mid carder who can and does frequently mix it up at the main event level as well.

    Only finisher that is one and done is Kennys One Winged Angel,but yeah, i like to think todays finishers are more signature moves that the person had perfected. While a great wrestler CAN kick out of them, if they are not digging deep theyll be down for the 3 count.
