The reasons he talks about in this video about karaoke are why Asian people have karaoke establishments that are PRIVATE ROOMS that you rent out with your friends and people who won't judge you and sing to your hearts' content. If you're in LA, there are plenty of those too in Ktown and in Little Tokyo. The karaoke bar thing isn't really popular with Asian people and we invented it.

Where I live it's the total opposite. In a karaoke bar majority of the singers sound absolutely fucking dreadful, many are completely tone-deaf, some have like two notes to their singing. Then once in a blue moon someone sings who's ridiculously good and for a couple of hours most of the shit singers don't bother. That's the only short interval I would deign to spend in a karaoke bar.

I had a very similar karaoke experience but in Hollywood… a few doors from the pantages theater.
As a 60-something American gay man living these past 26 years in, of all places, San Francisco, it amazes me just how far toward self-acceptance, nonetheless broader cultural normalcy, gay Americans have to go if a young, talented, dedicated to hard work guy this visibly a glowing hot target on almost anyone's gaydar had to formally "come out" and stress over it beforehand. I realize he's very young, and of course was even younger during the 2014 Russian-hosted Sochi Olympics, but just why was it that he couldn't "rock the boat" just a little while he was in the notoriously anti-LGBTI nation of Russia with almost all the world watching? He's been quoted as saying that he had not yet come out to his family and didn't want to "surprise" them. Was he born into a family of deaf and blind gifted athletes who hadn't a clue, not even a hunch already, that he might have been - gasp - gay? Yeah, it's said that everyone's journey to coming out is their own, but that even more proves my point that if a young gifted athlete who's really pretty observably gay can't have an easy time of it, then just how further does society need to go towards ridding itself of this nonsensical prejudice?

As a freeskier myself who has skied since I was a kid and been immersed in the sport for a long time, I question why Gus got all the publicity and talk show appearances. I love watching him ski, but there are so many other freeskiers who have accomplished just as much (if not more) and who are amazing to watch. What about the other medalists from the olympics like Joss Christensen, Nick Goepper, etc.? What about all the other x games medalists over the years? Why did they not get the same level of attention? It seemed to me that the media focused on him over the others because of his sexual orientation, which doesn’t seem fair to the others.
His mannerisms were slight but noticeable. Funny guy though.
