Roger and Garp despite being enemies had mutual respect for each other and Roger knew Garp had a good moral compass and wouldn't like them killing an innocent child just because of his bloodline and though we don't see much based on Rouge's actions she probably wanted to have Roger's child and I'm sure he tried to warn him what would happen
I was shocked when I learned he was rogers son but I kinda had a hint that he wasn’t dragons son cuz of the episode of the dragon is luffy father reveal
Marineford's arc is one of the best arcs in my opinion
