I’ve never had bad luck going direct with yarn manufacturers/ craft stores like Lion Brand, ICE Yarns, Hobbi, Mary Maxim, Red Heart and strictly yarn only sellers on Etsy. If you are trying to kill bacteria by putting it in the freezer, you should know that labs *preserve* bacteria by freezing it in temperatures much colder than a household freezer (in other words, putting it in a home freezer is a waste of time). I'm a Floridian too. I often crochet with thinner wools and blends. Wool breathes and depending on the type, can be comfortable in lighter weights for many projects. I suggest a more open stitch pattern for air circulation. Smooth spun wool yarn is usually good, or a textured blend with nubs or thick and thin spin type to allow evaporation. If you can afford to buy in bulk I recommend Yarn Paradise in Turkey, their yarn brand is Ice Yarns. You have to buy the skeins in lots (usually four or six) and shipping isn't cheap (for every $ you spend on yarn you'll spend the same on shipping), but it's still pretty affordable especially when they have a sale. I once got 36 skeins of nice non-acrylic yarn from their "going-going-gone" category for $50 with shipping.

I've also found their shipping to be the fastest of any place and that's saying something considering amazon can't get me an item in from warehouse in the US in two days but Ice can get me yarn from Turkey in 3.
Another idea is to consider a wool exchange. I signed up to a year with ‘wool-swap’ in by Gayle in Australia 🇦🇺. You get set a budget/ skein amount . It’s a great way to try new yarns and destash good quality skeins you no longer need/ want. Just be careful of shipping . I met up with a wool swap friend in London this year when she was on a visit from Denmark and it was lovely ❤
My favorite place to get the super-common acrylic yarn is Walmart… their brand is usually a buck to two bucks cheaper than the red-heart super saver and i use it a lot… there’s not a great deal of color selection compared to the red heart super saver but i use A LOT of the basic colors it comes in particularly the white and red lol
Yep, basic acrylic can be great depending on the project. I haven't used Walmart's brand just because I don't go there much, but I use the Hobby Lobby brand a lot, and before that I loved Vanna's Choice from Joann because it was frequently very cheap on sale. I use acrylic all the time for toys and things for kids or gifts so I don't have to worry about people ruining their gift in the washer lol.
Dots Yarnden which is based out of Oregon (I believe). They have some really great sales and yarn brands that are more common in the UK 😃. Great video ☺️

It’s a great way to try new yarns and destash good quality skeins you no longer need/ want. Just be careful of shipping . I met up with a wool swap friend in London this year when she was on a visit from Denmark and it was lovely ❤
You don’t have to swap every two months you can opt out for cost reasons etc…
@@sarahdunham5393 I'm not familiar with any of them here, though I'm sure they exist. Lol im just so solitary. Thanks for the tip!
WEBS is another favorite of mine.
Yep, Webs is a good one too :)
@@megk2527 Awesome! I'll check them out. Thanks for sharing :)
For an aussie, Bendigo woollen mills is fantastic. They are a bit more expensive to order overseas. But a 200g ball of cotton yarn for $14 ends up being fantastic.
@@naughtscrossstitches Thanks so much for the heads up!
Always purchase from Wool Warehouse in the UK
@@bethskis Yep ive bought form them before too. It just depends on what im looking for. I just found lindehobby was cheaper than them on a lot of things, so I went with them.
I agree. And even tho they are shipping from the UK,shipping is fast and reasonable
@@Fran-vo4fn Yes I was shocked it was only like $6.50 for shipping and it arrived in about a week.
What a steal on the La Bien Amiee 😍
What's your recommendations for Australia?
@@YehowahDaughter I honestly wish I knew. I know fabric stores in Australia, but im very unfamiliar with yarn shops available there. I believe Wool Warehouse ships there, but I dont know what the shipping cost would be.
I discovered Ritohobby recently. They seem even cheaper than Lindehobby. I haven't ordered from them, but will soon. They offer a best price guarantee, so if you find the same yarn cheaper elsewhere, you get this price -5%.
For european folks it looks like a nice option, bc they're located in Denmark. Don't know about international shipping...
@@YuliveeK These Denmark stores seem to be the best prices around lol. I wonder why that is.
Crafting re-use stores are thrift stores for crafters and you can get good prices there - usually 1/2 the going price. General thrift stores in my area don't get yarn.
@@CrochetKrisMI Yes I always see people talk about them but I dont have any in my area. Im so jealous! Id be there all the time! Lol
@@showandtellmeg I only get to visit a craft re-use store if I make a trip to cities and hour plus away or travel.

Also could you share the name of the purple cardigan pattern at 2.26. its lovely. And I am on Ravelry but I know I am not getting the best results. A video on how you use it to maximum advantage would be helpful.
@@GeoffBenge-d3k Sure thing :) That is the Rose Street Cardigan by Sydney Crabaugh and I have a video review of that whole project from when I finished it earlier this year: th-cam.com/video/TelztzJQfDc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=k2Ow1jw1ZulkXUgU
The pattern is part of her Patreon, which is a subscription, but its only $6 per month and you have access to all of her patterns immediately, so you could join and download it with whatever else is new. I absolutely love Knitpicks stuff. Unfortunately, I’m Canadian and the value of the Canadian dollar is the lowest it’s been in as long as I can remember. So I really can’t afford to buy anything from them right now. 😢

Thrift yarn for 50 cents? I wish. Stores here charge almost new yarn prices 😢
Yeah, that's hard. It's crazy how much prices at thrift stores vary even from town to town. It's taken me years of thrifting to narrow down which ones are the good ones for what type of item. Lots of stores around here charge close to new prices on yarn as well, but I found the 2 around here that do 50 cents to $1 each.
My husband and children always get me expensive yarn at my LYS. ! I’m flabbergasted sometimes they will get me gift cards in large amounts! So I like to support my LYs. I used to get cheap yarns because that’s what we could afford. But now I don’t have to worry about the cost because they spend the money! Thanks for your advice. It’s good to know.
That's awesome :) It's nice to be pampered with something they know you love.
I don’t have a LYS to even support. I have to drive 1.5 hours to find one. I’m trying to decide if it would be worth it to open one here.
Has anyone bought anything from TEMU? I think it’s from China which makes me hesitant. Does anyone have any feedback?
@@kristyann9641 I actually have a whole video about how to find good yarn on Temu I made earlier this year :) th-cam.com/video/dMwAThAh_lE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=tFFIuiQgiN9MYiE1 It was quite controversial at the time and I got some backlash, but I do purchase yarn from Temu every so often when its the Lotus brand I mention in that video. I give all the particulars there, but its a legit high end yarn brand that has discontinued some yarns and you can find those on Temu while they last.
