  • Crankshaft and connecting rod for the Webster engine. Progress is slower than hoped and this is due in part to other priorities but also because the work content in making these pieces was greater than I expected.

It's looking good Alan. Nice fit on those bearings.

Thanks Stevie. The crankshaft bearings worked out really well. Alignment of the support pieces was critical to this as the shaft/bearing fit is very close. Alignment on X and Y axes was spot on as made, but I machined a shallow groove in the bottom of the (smaller) crankshaft support and shimmed the outer edge with a piece of 0.025mm (~1 thou) plastic bag to bring the vertical or Z axis to correct alignment. Cheers.

Gday Alan, making the lap to do the cylinder bore is really easy, I can’t remember if I show this in the video when I built mine, I got the idea dro Mark Presling and it works great, it doesn’t take long at all to lap the bore in, the conrod is really easy to make a mistake on and I ended up making an unusable extra as well, great job mate, cheers

i've done exactly the same on conrods and other things as well! nice video, good to see warts an all. that's how we learn by our mistakes or supposed to in my case, my scrap pile is getting bigger and bigger 😁
