I'm fn speachless.. this may be the most perfect cover of this song that I've ever had the pleasure of hearing. God I would love to have heard him and Etta duo this-might have knocked the earth off it's axis.
The first few bars are scrambled. After that, it rolls smoothly along. So, it's far from perfect, but still a joy to listen to. Once Warren gets in the pocket, it's like syrup. His song, Endless Parade, was the one that made me dig into Govt. Mule. This was a jewel to find.
I'm 1 minute in, and loving this guy! This is my very first experience with "Gov't Mule"; but def not my last! Great job on one of my all time favorite songs!
I'm not very good at verbalizing emotions, but this version of this song as well as Warren doing "Soulshine" always brings strong emotions to the surface in me. God is REALLY good to have let me come this far in my life.
Absolutely mesmerizing. I listen to this every day at work with tears streaming down my face and I don't give a half a fuck who sees it. This is a masterpiece and I usually hate covers.

There so many negative people out here saying who started this or that music how about we give the people who is carring on all these beautiful musics congratulations to you all cause its truly a gift from god to you all
I actually heard this song for the first time driving through Muscle Shoals, AL. Had no clue who Etta James was, but I had the internet and TH-cam. The experience blew me away and turned me into a lifelong blues fan. I’m a truck driver and I’ve been all over the South. Many of the small Mississippi basin towns have a sign as you drive in and they are very proud of their musician sons and daughters. Nowadays, I read the name and immediately hop online to listen to their music. You cannot imagine the rapture I’ve experienced this way. Government Mule plays the best covers, IMO.
whoa! I knew by the look of the image this was going to be a great cover: a full bodied white man with long hair and Gibson...that has to be a recipe for some good blues. Anyone that can take a 2 minute song and do a 10 minute cover deserves props! He really owned that song. Gov't Mule has a new fan
sometimes when u move forward u gotta look back every person has the the same tune different formula any version sung the right way with a passion deserves a thumbs way up. keep making people feel those good tunes!!!!!

I agree. I even like it better than Etta's and I love that woman's voice. Could be a better musical arrangement than she had maybe. Whatever it is, it's just a tad more soulful.
Grumzie Did you listen Karise Eden, wow, I love this version also, who is he.....ok, I love his version, is so natural and seems like he enjoy so much, I want see him live , great, my second fave
I will she'd many tears when this guy decides to hang it up or worse.....leaves this world. Such a master of the craft. Simplistic greatness. What's it's all about. The right note, the right dynamic, the right feel. Live is where it's at with this group. From the first time I saw them at the Cotton Club in 1996. Look that show up. The entire show is on TH-cam. There were about 300 people at that show and I was stage right. 10 feet from Warren. The soldano amp was soooooooo tasty.
I keep thinkin that Warren is the pinnacle of musicianship and then I hear something like this. How the hell do I put him above the pinnacle??? I'll just kick back and morph into the groove. Blessed Be Brother.
It's perfect. It rolls out down and off of his pain torn heart. Etta felt it enough to put those raw feelings down on paper, and though many have attempted few have succeeded But these Gov" t mule guys have perfected it I stand mezmorized

Oh Wow! This is my favorite song by Ms. Etta James. I have listened to this song at least 1000 times, in my lifetime. I'm up in age and I still must listen to this song. Brings back so many memories. It's a beautiful song; that hurts your soul, but it is what you're feeling in your heart, soul and mind at that precise moment. Thanks, Ms. James for this song. I love it! ♥️ This is a nice version, but no one will ever sing it like, Ms. Etta James. 🥰
keep it up bro - your doing well even when you have your doubts. don't give in even when its tough, which it can be. your life is unique and special even though you think it may not be. helping others, in any way possible, is the BEST way to get over ones own struggles and become a better version of yourself than you were yesterday.

Crazy how this song is only 2 chords. A and Bm. Yet, I don't think I've ever heard a song so soulful with 2 chords.
Maree Bow Me too sweetie.....
boy it dont get any better then the blues. my most fave
This guy shouldn't post it as a "cover" because he is fabulous! This is his version of "I'd Rather Go Blind!"
Respect for Etta Jones and him!
Well I had to tell the public this is a song that everyone can remember in their hearts
I'm fn speachless.. this may be the most perfect cover of this song that I've ever had the pleasure of hearing. God I would love to have heard him and Etta duo this-might have knocked the earth off it's axis.
I am pretty fn sure of that....
+Joy Anne I agree!
A matter of personal taste!!!
isnt everything?
Never heard a song so emotional it brings back good an bad times in my life. This version is absolutely awsome.
I HEAR YOU PATRICIA. LETS MOVE ON TO LOVE AND HAPPINESS
Honestly, I enjoy this just as much as the original version of the song. I don't usually comment on these things but for this song it's worth it
I can relax when I hear this guy sing this music , to me its like traveling down a never ending highway
I'm 1 minute in, and loving this guy! This is my very first experience with "Gov't Mule"; but def not my last! Great job on one of my all time favorite songs!
Same! So happy a friend shared this!
Warren is dynamite, I'm glad someone new gets to hear him every day... He's one of my very favorites.
The same
THANK YOU FOR SUCH FINE MUSIC,APPRECIATE FINE MUSIC
9p iou
when Warren does any song that is not an original he makes it his own
nobody can touch what he does
Karen Verity yes
Your a hottie ♨
Mayhap Jellyroll can methinks ;-)
Etta James sounded better. Period
In tears now from a time long gone, but this shit still hits home...
Yes a 25-year-old long gone for me.
Awesome version... glad I made it here. 🎸🎙🎼🎶🥁
Tears of a memory drip down my cheek with a wounded soul, I'll never recover but I will live on....
Man... What a beautiful Song.. breaks my heart Every time I listen..yet I smile knowing this Band is out there making Blues 😎
I'm not very good at verbalizing emotions, but this version of this song as well as Warren doing "Soulshine" always brings strong emotions to the surface in me. God is REALLY good to have let me come this far in my life.
Amen
Warren Haynes. A long time favorite and brilliant musician. I could listen to him play and sing all night long.
I love to see people enjoy the music it feeds the soul
One of the best versions I have heard. The solo is worth every second it takes
I agree about my neighbors liking this song! I'm rattling my windows & knockn stuff off my countertop, just jammin!! Pure soul food !! 👍
This is amazing love how he puts his own style on it but still very original to... great damn job!! Who’s not been there before???
Absolutely mesmerizing. I listen to this every day at work with tears streaming down my face and I don't give a half a fuck who sees it. This is a masterpiece and I usually hate covers.
I'm the same with covers but man , this is above and beyond
Covers are awesome when they cross genres like this does....but, yes, generally covers kinda suck
I've never heard this till a few days ago.now I can't stop playing it.i swear it's such a great song, all versions from different artists including the original. I love blues music.its so true emotions and power. So great to just sit back and mellow out and listen to the blues.man that is somethn let me tell ya.u really feel it in ya
Not even a minute in I have a huge lump in my throat so good so full of soul !
Sheltering at home, chilling to the music, during the COVID 19 pandemic of 2020
Same thing here in Louisiana USA
Same here in Pennsylvania
Doing the same, ducking the Coronavirus and reminiscing. What else is there to do?
whoa! I knew by the look of the image this was going to be a great cover: a full bodied white man with long hair and Gibson...that has to be a recipe for some good blues. Anyone that can take a 2 minute song and do a 10 minute cover deserves props! He really owned that song. Gov't Mule has a new fan
Thats truth speaking ,the Soul in all of us!
I cant play this loud enough!
William is a gentle giant full of talent,
sometimes when u move forward u gotta look back every person has the the same tune different formula any version sung the right way with a passion deserves a thumbs way up. keep making people feel those good tunes!!!!!

Die Musik, die man heute braucht!
He is an icon of rock history...love his voice and his guitar!!!!!
+Christian Schumacher MMMMMMM
There's allot of people that do this but he is my favorite
Warren owns every song he puts his talent to..........would luv to hear Etta & Warren duet to this one !
I really love this song!
I was at this show. Was the song of the night for me. I was wanting to hear this song and send it to a friend. What’s strange is I stumbled onto it tonight. Another friend who I haven’t seen since this show I will see tomorrow. 9 years later.l
Can't beat Etta. Her version live in Montreal is epic soul. But damn is this close second! Soul and guitar. Forget about it! Beautiful rendition.
Damn this song said it all tore my heart plumb out of chest ❤ well you know I would rather go blind ❤my refection from my classes show's the tear's in my eyes ❤ well you see I would rather go blind ❤then to see you walk away mld to CLS ❤ Michael Lynn Drake ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
To be honest you guys are the main thing that gets me through life you inspire gracious free music please help me get through the hardest times God bless you
I could have listened to that all day....just might put it on a loop and do that.
Yes...Sir!
I wonder why he has never recorded this song. It is the best version I have ever heard.
Right
This is my first time hearing this song and artist. And. WOW. Just wow! Love it.
If this were the only song I got to hear; I'd be cool with that...but only THIS rendition. I can't get enough of it.
I keep thinkin that Warren is the pinnacle of musicianship and then I hear something like this. How the hell do I put him above the pinnacle??? I'll just kick back and morph into the groove. Blessed Be Brother.
It's perfect. It rolls out down and off of his pain torn heart. Etta felt it enough to put those raw feelings down on paper, and though many have attempted few have succeeded
But these Gov" t mule guys have perfected it
I stand mezmorized
ABSOLUTELY beautiful, if you like the BLUES you will love this. Gov't Mule does a remarkable of this blues classic. I Loved it. Praise can never do this justice!
Very touching rendition , You can feel the soul ,I love it !!
I mean does it get any better than this my god he nailed it.
I'm living this song. Damn thank you do much. Almost 4 years and counting
Hang tight and strong
You keep your head up
Life evolves to a point where it'd surprise you.
Once you hear Etta James sang this song it will always be a favorite. And this is a great cover.
my favourite modern cover of this classic, You have truly paid respect to Etta, I listen to this alot with my morning coffee..Totally cranked of course, this young man's talent is friggin amazing!!
@Andybetz.99 hi there !!
Etta James. 🥰
I had to hang up the Jack.
Too many sad ones like this one finally took their toll on my soul.
God Bless Us All...
keep it up bro - your doing well even when you have your doubts. don't give in even when its tough, which it can be. your life is unique and special even though you think it may not be. helping others, in any way possible, is the BEST way to get over ones own struggles and become a better version of yourself than you were yesterday.
Warren and Gov Mule, awesome performance and great version of this great song! Love it!
Warren is the man as I have seen him at least 6 times live and he never ever disappoints! I could listen to him all day!
If there were a video track, this would be a true stoner's delight .
Bill Yates I agree, except I'd prefer it personally dark. Great stoner tune.
Beers up, joints burning.
You sure hit that on the nail.
Ummmm. I respectfully disagree. This link is perfect as is.
Wow... I just happened across this this dude is awesome this is always been my kind of music I don't know why I've never heard of him before but he can do the Blues it makes me melt
Agreed to a point. I am stone cold sober and it's still superb. I have to admit, though, that it's a delight stone cold sober or with some adult beverage and/or some adult vegatatative enhancement. Or both, of course.
What a great tribute to a wonderful icon: ETTA!
He sounds good. But NOBODY can sing it like Etta. She pours every fiber of her soul into this song. Straight up facts.
♥️🌹🎶💯
Warren played with the Almann brothers band, so you know he is an excellent musician. That voice though.... wow!!!!
ok ok ok.,.......it's the memories I'm in love with now but the tears rolling down my face right now we're pulled out with the bluesiest guitar/voice marriage I've ever heard. wow..thank you
Those people before me couldn't have said what I wanted to any better. I get chills up and down my spine and entire body. One of the best rushes anyone can get without doing drugs !!!
I love this song especially the way he sings it! Listening to this beautiful music during the Covid-19 pandemic.❤️👍👍👍👍👍👍
2021 and still amazing, great job brother!!
Been listening to this song for years, and it still hits ❤❤❤
Goosebumps every time I listen. . That's every day 😎
Haynes sounds just like Gregg Allman and a awesome lead guitar player
