    This tutorial is the best presentation for camera's one will ever see on you tube and it so happens its matched with the great little Olympus Pen-F. If Pen -F sales didn't explode after viewers watched this tutorial then something is wrong with their eyesight and ears. An incredibe effort, concise, clear and highly intuitive, 10 out of 10. I felt fully familiar with the Pen-F modus operandi when I bought my Pen-F after watching this tutorial twice.

    Thanks for the only in-depth tutorial on TH-cam. While we all wish it was weather sealed, I find the complaint unwarranted as you'll end up using a prime that isn't weather sealed to begin with.

  • @travelingshoesguru

    Thank you! I got the Pen-F for Christmas and I was so in need of a tutorial to get started. This is a great intro and I'm saving it for future reference too with some of the advanced abilities. I'm in awe of all I can do with this camera, but starting with basics. I previously have had 3 Olympus cameras in the SH series which they are no longer making. I like the built in zoom and all the features those cameras had, and I did not want to go to a camera where I needed separate lenses. However, after my last SH died and I needed a new camera, I was convinced to come back to Olympus and check out something like the Pen line for my street shooting, travel shooting needs. In a short interim I bought another brand with a built in zoom and it was - AWFUL. The qualify of the pics, the lack of stabilization, the terrible video quality - what a waste. Back to Olympus, and hubby got me this for Christmas. I have a couple of starter lenses - I need small and compact for shooting from the back of an Indian Motorcycle, shooting on the street, travel shots in all kinds of locales. This looked great in researching it but I have never had so many control dials and advanced options before. This video is a great start. I only wish there was an Olympus class to take with an instructor on hand to answer all those other questions.
    Sometimes in this video you do move around the menu items too quickly and it's difficult to see what you are even pressing on the camera to get where you got - and I don't always have the same screen coming up. That's a bit frustrating. I'd say slow it down with the menu stuff and make it clear how you get where you are - your fingers can get in the way of seeing what you're doing. But generally it's a great intro. Not to mention this camera has some tucked away buttons I never would have figured out! Olympus needs to produce some instructional videos for consumers. In the meantime, you are doing a great job for them!

    One inaccuracy is you say EV compensation is in quarter steps, but it's actually in 1/3 steps (very minor point). You should also mention that the FL-LM3 also offers swivel adjustments making it an amazing micro flash - bouncing with most 8 foot white ceilings shouldn't be a problem, whether in horizontal or vertical position. Please also mention RAW, which is an extremely useful feature of most digital cameras. It doesn't mention it here, but with my OM-D EM-5 mark 2, when using digital zoom, the RAW file is unaltered (i.e., it still shows the full sensor output and not just the cropped image; this is particularly useful in photographing far off and often small subjects like birds - the digital zoom helps you confirm focus, while you still have the full image to work with in post-processing if you don't like the results of the JPG, but you're left with the flexibility that RAW offers with rendering colours, removing noise, adjusting exposure, etc. ad infinitum, and you can still crop it to the same framing as the digital zoom - plus RAW is just awesome, giving you so many post-processing abilities). Lastly, you talk about a lot of features that are "hidden" when you receive the camera - you should let users who want advanced features know how to activate the extended menu options, which are quite mind-boggling to comprehend. Overall, I really enjoyed your video and the insights you provided. Thank you.

    Now for my ?? - I do not see a way to set minimum shutter speed. When I work in A mode/ISO Auto, I prefer to set a minimum shutter speed, and when that is reached, the camera increases ISO for exposure. Is this available on the Pen F?

      Hello art4kuait. The Olympus Pen-F is a nice looking camera, but I would go with the Fuji XT-30 for better overall image quality and low light capability.

    This is a good video for beginners, but it’s absolutely disingenuous to say you can’t use canon, Nikon, or any other lens on MFT. The short flange distance means that adapters work great on any MFT camera as long as you’re willing to shoot manual. That’s one of the beautiful things about mirrorless cameras.

      Thank you for your feedback! You are absolutely correct. Mirrorless cameras with their short flange back distance do make them adaptable to a variety of lenses. Thanks for watching!

    Shutter Lag??

    • @DigitalGojaUSA
      @DigitalGojaUSA  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      In photography, shutter lag is the delay between triggering the shutter and when the photograph is actually recorded. This is a common problem in the photography of fast-moving objects or people in motion.

      Gosh, thanks for the response, but I was asking what is the shutter lag on this camera? I am considering this camera and a couple of prime lenses (45, 75) for portraits.

    • @DigitalGojaUSA
      @DigitalGojaUSA  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The shutter lag in single-area AF mode (center AF position) is 0.144 second. When using the bundled flash, full AF shutter lag increases to 0.406 seconds.
      When manually focused, the Olympus PEN F's shutter lag time is 0.092 second. The PEN F's prefocused shutter lag time is 0.070 second.

    Very good video but that same music repeating over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over gets really annoying much more quickly than I stopped typing and over.
