I have a variety of switch types on my custom keyboards …. Nothing wrong with Cherry MX Silent Reds and they sound great in the video. Nothing custom about a modded keyboard when everyone uses Durock V2’s, (insert weird name) switches, GMMK or (inset weird name) keycaps, Kryotox G502 lube, band aid / holee mod and tape mod w/ X/Y/Z plates and custom USB-C cable connected to left side port connector. Imo, the most custom keyboards these days I think can be found by large manufacturers 😂😂.
This is a keyboard that they sell here in Korea as an in-stock item that people would get for entering into the custom realm of keyboards. I know Abko is the retail seller of several Chinese-made OEM products that just slaps their logo and sells, but that's a good board if you decide to put L+P Cherry Hyperglide Blacks in them and use it. 87 dollars is really not that bad considering people here in Korea pay almost over 200 dollars, but nonetheless, never expected to see this board on your channel!
@Tomita it's abko lol akko is another mech keyboard manufacturer in China haha the 2 names are very similar P.S If anyone is looking for this board and livs in Korea, you'll find it if you just do a Naver search the model Abko AR87 or their 96% hotswap model AR96
I would love to see you mod this. It's a really unique frame, and it would make for a dynamite custom project. It would be interesting to see what you could do with it.
The AR87 goes for usually 160-240 back when it was in stock. Only during BFCM did it drop to 80. For once, you got your money’s worth! But at the risk of your card information being stolen, of course.
Abko is a decently popular keyboard/gaming gear manufacturer in Korea. Ar87 is currently on sale for about 200 U.S (converted). I’m not sure if it’s a GMK knock off though
this would be an insanely cool mod project tbh. replacing switches, adding pe/poron foam between pcb and plate, more case dampeners and you might got yourself a killer board lol
3:57 Keycult boards can come either with the windows key, or winkeyless. I have a no.1 rev2 tkl and it has a win-key. You get to chose which one you want if you win the raffle to buy one.
@@Donbros if you get a good quality iron and learn, it's not a hastle. Soldering can be a really relaxing hobby like building models or doing puzzles. In the past I've bought all sorts of stupid little project kits just because I wanted to solder after work to relax.
@@snesguy9176 but its desoldering. For me its too hassle, literally the most hated thing thus I love hotswap because even changing hotswap socket you kinda don't need to desolder just push it while soldering
Thats an Abkoncore AR87. I've had my eye on one of those to mod for quite some time now. They are around $150-$280 on Amazon so pretty good steal for $90.
If it's a standard 87-key layout, can you buy a hot-swap PCB for a VIA compatible keyboard and put it in there? The case looks solid enough. Only issue would be the USB placement, but it wouldn't be too hard to make a simple USB daughterboard. Might be easier than desoldering 87 switches.
That's probably the easy part. Finding a PCB that has the USB-C in the same exact location or using a PCB with a daughterboard that you can connect to a USB-C breakout board installed in the same location (difficult, since the original USB-C connection is on the PCB) will be more difficult. Or you could find the OEM of the PCB and see if you can get a blank one to swap quality switches into. That's probably the easiest, if it exists.
I actually bought this exact keyboard off Amazon on black Friday and i absolutely love it. These used to go for over $250 and i got it for $85. Modded this sounds amazing
It's still a pretty good deal tbh. I bought one of these on Ebay for around $200 but the seller desoldered the old switches, replaced them with Glorious Pandas, gave two sets of keycaps, and painted the upper black.
I've been running this board modded with mill max sockets since 2020 as my daily driver. The thing is a tank, and with the right switches and mods, it can sound exactly like many modern enthusiast boards released these days. Really my only complaints are that the PCB doesn't support 5 pin switches (you'll need to clip the plastic pins off), and the space bar stab is a bastard and a half to tune
Reading through the comment and had to chime in and agree, Mod it yourself and TBH I could see that twinkle in your eye and the wheels spinning on how you could mod it that body on the keyboard is built like a tank!
It's impressive because the case looks solid as heck and the switches are south facing, you could use those black Cherry housings, get some Kailh reds and JWICKs to make Black Cherry Pies.
I think this keyboard has a lot of potential and since it is full metal it must feel pretty good. So if you mod it alittle it might be worth it using and or keeping.
I feel like you are obligated to desaulder it and mod it into an absolute GOAT. Just cause it has such an interesting backstory for how you got it and that it isn't even sold anymore.
If it wasn't for the "genuine cherry" switches or if it was hotswap, the "we have a keycult at home" keyboard seems like a pretty good deal. Still does if you're going to solder it yourself. Now, I'd love to see another video on it, to see if it actually holds up in normal use or if it has some obvious flaws.
This was a fun one to watch! I would love to see you mod this thing with switches that actually sound good. However, I'd be a little weary of some random keyboard from a different country. You never know if it has some sort of keylogger built into it.
Thats AR87, for $90 its a good deal.... These were like $200 plus. It's from Korea btw and the case was designed by LZ... Its not hotswap but modding this board is very popular.
Agreed, especially on the first part of what you said. If he unloosened it he'd be tightening it. As a kid, in my family, I heard "unthaw" as a common term and it wasn't until I was an adult that I realized that that wasn't a real word and that what was meant was "thaw" or "unfreeze" and that to "unthaw" would be to freeze something again. :p
To my understanding Abko uses the same Chinese OEM as all the RedDragon keyboards. Good budget minded boards. Not sure how much this board in particular goes for. But if I had to guess you probably paid about what it's actual retail would be if it was still available. Also most of the examples I saw of this board came with blacks. So it might be possible to find other switch options.
I don't know much about keyboards yet, as I'm still learning and I've been interested in them for about a year now. But if you're interested in doing so, I'd enjoy seeing this thing get modified. Maybe put it in a lighter case lol.
I bet you these were returns/open boxes that had keycap damage and they bought them in bulk, bought new caps and sold them for a slight profit not realizing the case is 100 to 150 bucks US.
Abkoncore is a big brand. I’m surprised they’re doing crap like this. Edit: Maybe it’s just an Abkoncore case. Who sold it on Wish? Maybe some random person used an Abkoncore case and bought other parts separately.
it was on this year or maybe last year computex, this korean company for PSU i think, they then reveal this board i believe it was more expensive lol maybe 200$ but this only 86$ damn lol

Any keyboard with an alu case like that is a solid deal for under $100. especially something that comes with switches and keycaps. I guess it probably isn't compatible with qmk though
This is defiantly a good board. This would make for a great giveaway after you mod it. I would like to have one to mod myself for the price but I would love a custom board from you. Hope to see the mod options on this.
I gotta take this for a spin....
Hey Hipyo!!
try it with different switches.

I smell new content :)

I want it
Same I want to see a mod vid for this
Reminds me of knock off Duck Orion.
Dynamite
This seems like such a good value for a solid metal case
If that was hotswappable and more avaiable, this would be a crazy good keyboard to mod for the price

Ever heard Mill-Max socket??
yeah

If this was a hotswap, it'd be insane value. Honestly, it still is pretty much unbeatable. The alu case is probably worth the price alone.
Mill-Max sockets can make anything hotswap
Isn't it possible to swap the switch plate with another that is hot-swappable?

You know cherry's fallen behind when their genuine switches have ended up on wish
You should de-solder and then solder some hot swap sockets on so you can test a ton of switches.
I honestly think its not worth the hassle XD
