- Avoidance is a survival skill that is learned in an unsafe environment. When brought into a safe environment, the new space then starts to look like the one God brought us out of. There are five ways to change your behavior, but in order to do that, we must first address the fact that we are avoiding something.

Avoidance is a problem
1. You become a safe house for other peoples demons
2. You dig a ditch for your linage to fail into
3. You rob your future self at the opportunity of freedom.
1.Acknowledgment - I understand that I have a pattern .
2.Accountability- my pattern is my responsibility and no one else’s
3.Acceptance- my pattern doesn’t make me deficient or unlovable
4.Assistance- I need help from Jesus and Therapy to follow through with breaking the pattern.
5.Activity- my plan is to begin today by not only reading my Bible but to actively create a path,plan so that whatever I feel triggered I will respond differently .
Types of Avoidance
1. Physical avoidance- you don’t want to deal with something or someone so you choose to keep a distance in order not to address it
2. Situational avoidance- you don’t want to feel something so you don’t allow yourself to be put in a particular situation to trigger the emotion
3. Substitutional Avoidance- you choose to reposition or depend on something or someone in order to keep from filling, or addressing a matter
4. Cerebral Avoidance - you won’t allow yourself to feel something so you don’t think about it
Serenity prayer
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

All I can do is shake my head. I've been surviving and avoiding. It's a protective nature I've built up. But what do I do when I know confirmation will come when I address it.
Ive been scarred. I don't want my children to have to deal with this.
Lord help, I acknowledge my wrongs, my hurts, my avoidance.
@alight4rome_BTCOLM Be honest with God and say that you struggle in this area. Seek Godly and wise counsel for your healing. Choose to fight through it and choose to never give up in Jesus' name. Every day, we are supposed to choose to deny self/flesh. Every day, we are supposed to choose to grow, evolve, and seek healing and deliverance in one way or another. Because none of us have arrived. Like Paul said, I haven't reached perfection yet, and that is applicable to all of us.
This was an AMAZING Word straight from the Lord. Talk about a word in due season! May God continue to bless you Man of God for your obedience.

I would say that 99% of any man I've been in relationship...they were all avoidants. Very little communication..ALL addicts. My mom was the same way. Still is. Walls always up. These relationships utterly failed because of it. These men were deeply wounded and refused to show me love or support.
