My old stomping grounds. Lived in that area early 2000’s the 2006 flood was wild . The fires have cleared a lot of ground since then as well. You were on some of my favorite roads. I didn’t have a bike when I was there but you could ride for years in three counties there and still not hit every road. Thank you so much for taking us along. If you’re in Northern NY give a shout happy to show you around some great treasures here.
Good vid. Like to see a fellow pensioner having a goos time. Smart taking the better hard surface gravel road. That flour volcanic sand is tricky for the best. Those little towns stay full. Surprising but true. People like to get away. All good from east Kentucky USA. Look forward to the next one.
I spent about 36 hours in the Shasta area in September, and was amazed by how remote and beautiful it is. I had a rental car, not a bike (photography trip), but spent most of my time there daydreaming about exploring that area on two wheels. Maybe someday... Thanks for sharing.
My wife and I always loved the Mt.Shasta area and intended to retire in Redding, but the Lord led us back to Florida and I'm not sorry for it. I love Florida, but miss California, especially N. CA.
Brings back good memories. I attempted Shasta on the Clear Creek route (which is not the "tourist" route) back in 1997. The two of us made it almost to the top. But we started too late and the snow started getting soft. She almost got taken out by a rock and I barfed from altitude sickness. We wisely put on our glissading shorts and headed back to camp for a nap. Did a lot of peak bagging back then. Thanks for taking us along for your circumnavigation.
Great trip ill go next year im 71 on a 1200gs love it i had to learn to ride sand from a trip to death valley 8days camping lots of sand stay on the gas no brakes lean back and go for it lol stay safe
What a fabulous ride Bruce thanks for sharing, yes as we get older we need to take the route that is easier for us. I totally agree that you found a place to stay, awesome having some taste testing. Looking forward to your next video.
Nice to get on the road in good weather. I'm from BC but in Thailand the last 14 +/- years, but seeing Mt Shasta again brings back memories. Maybe you'll take us to the coast one day, And that feeling - the one you get when your sleeping options aren't panning out and the dread of having to go ride in the dark on a mission. Turned out pretty nice after all for you. Cheers
IMHO: Get a Garmin Zumo XT. Mount location is just above the bikes TFT. Use Google maps to plan your route, then transfer them to the Zumo. Makes route planning/navigation very easy. At our age it is a necessity ! Opens a lot of country for riding. Have you ridden the Salmon River ? Great ride. Small loop... Callahan... Cecilville... Forks of Salmon... turn right Sawyer Bar and take the road back to Etna. Best route for that country, mostly keeps you on the 'mountain' side of the road. Road downstream from Forks to Somes Bar is pretty narrow... nice ride though if you are not afraid of heights.
Like your videos. Just got a KTM 390 ...wonder if u have neutral problems. Also have V-Strom 650 which I bought at age 78. Now 83. 16,00 on V-Strom only 500 on 390. Good traveling to you. Rich/ Adventure 78&83
Have you ever rode from Etna over the Etna mountain to Sawyers bar and then on to the Forks of the Salmon? That would be a great loop ride to make from your house in Ashland.
This might be of interest to you ! I saw yesterday spy shots of the 2025 KTM390 and the big news to me at least is that it will have cruise control !! Which other bike in the 400cc class has that, especially ADV bike. Don't know how important that is to you but its a deal breaker to me especially when buying a bike brand new.....do I see an upgrade in your near future 😁
Very much enjoy your riding vlogs, and thanks! Would like to ride the same, ktm 500 exc-f. With that, what was your longest distance between gas stops?

As always I truly enjoy your videos. Look forward to trying this trip myself.
Great to see you out there giving it a go Bruce. Cheeks look a little flushed after the whisky tasting……I expect that was a little windburn though😅

I’ve done it in a car, but it’s on my list with my bike.

No more than 100 miles between gas stops. I also carry extra gas.
@@MySeniorMoments thanks for your reply.
Hey young fella. What make and model drone do you fly? I like that follow feature. Keep riding. I'm 73 going on 17. ---RC
It's a DJI Mini SE. A few years old.
