@@FRISHR Mozart himself saw himself as German, his father was from Augsburg and the father was more important than the mother at that time, Salzburg was not part of Austria at that time (and even until today Salzburg was part of Bavaria longer than of Austria). To say he was Austrian because it is now part of Austria is like saying Poland is to blame for the First World War because most of the Prussian land now belongs to Poland. Is that what you want to say? What is today is irrelevant. What counts is what was then and what he said... therefore he is German.
